America's Hardest Working Boy? (Identity Fraud)
Townhall.com ^ | June 21, 2007 | Terence Jeffrey

He would need to have been the hardest working boy in America, for -- according to documents that employers filed with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and the Social Security Administration (SSA) -- his efforts were not merely Herculean, they were miraculous.

He was born in September 1991, and by the time he was 7 -- according to W-2 reports bearing his Social Security Number (SSN) -- he had taken multiple jobs. From 1998 to 2001, employers filed more than 3,900 W-2s using his SSN.

lol... well why not have the fraudulent withholdings go to the victim’s social security and income tax? I’m sure a lot more Americans would support illegal immigration then. Could you imagine the tax refund with 3900 different illegals filing a w2 for you(I’m assuming you’d only actually pay your own taxes of course). I’d love a $100,000 tax refund. Retirement on maxed out SS would be fun too.

Perhaps I’m just naive, but it seems to me that the IRS should have a VALID LIST of SSNs, Name, Birth date, and Address. And when a W2 comes in and the name, birthday don’t match, it should be flagged as possibly fraudulent and the info turned over to investigators. (Address may not be helpful as addresses change, but your name and bday don’t).

"By 2002, when he was 12, as measured by W-2 reports, the boy was holding down 919 jobs in 42 states."

And the federal govt had NO IDEA there was anything amiss.

(And they will capably process the 20 million Z-visas, too.)

"In fact, past SSA inspector general reports have discovered that certain employers, year after year, file massive numbers of W-2s that bear fraudulent SSNs or valid SSNs that don't belong to the employee using it. These W-2s go into what SSA calls the Earnings Suspense File (ESF), where SSA deposits what it calls "no-match" W-2s. "

And how many of those employers were prosecuted?

Why are we still using paper SS ID cards? They should at least be as ‘smart’ as our DL’s or Military ID cards. And have to have new photos on them every 10 years.

Somebody posted a link last night, not to IRS but to SS.

You give them the potential employees name and SS# and they tell you if it's valid.

Because every time a proposal of any sort to re-issue a card to the populace comes up, people scream for a variety of reasons from the ACLU’s “invasion of privacy” protests to End-Of-the-Worlder’s “the mark of the Beast” proclamations.

Cool. So why doesn't the IRS use it as well? And if they find it invalid/incorrect, why isn't the employer notified to produce a valid one (people do make typos) in 14 days or face investigation and fines???
Not really asking you, just venting frustration...

I’d guess that since these W-2’s are fraudulent on their face, that most or all of them also fraudulently claim a spouse, lots of kids and other allowable dependents - meaning that little or zero income tax is with-held from the paycheck of the illegal alien, with only low or minimum wage FICA and Medicare remittances to the treasury.

Exactly. You shouldn't be allowed to profit off of criminal activity. The illegals are knowingly committing many crimes - including, obviously, fraud and identity theft. There also has to be something about lying to the federal government.

Of course, nothing is done because the IRS is worse than a prostitute and doesn't care where the money is coming from - just keep it coming.

I’d support some type of system that won’t let you send a W-2 out until you verify the SSN and get a validation number or something.

Of course that sort of system could be abused...

Guess they must be driving without DL’s then..as it is the same thing we need in a SS card.

Looks like this time they will attempt to bring about the end of our society, to accomplish just this thing.

1.Suddenly tens of millions of new "immigrant" citizens need documentation.
2.New national ID card is issued. Undocumented problems solved.
3.New national ID card fraud/failure causes unparralelled financial collapse. (Whoda thunkit)
4.Bring out the RFID chips. A ruined and frightened people are more easily "convinced"!

The only solution is to vote the incumbs outta office! Every last stinkin one of em! NO Rs No Ds!

You’ve got congressmen who think it would be “wrong” not to let the people who “worked” for that money collect “their fair share” of what they contributed even though they deliberately deposited it into someone else’s account.

When asked what guarantees they are taking to make sure that “Generation X/Reagan” will get the monies THEY contributed, a loud chuckle could be heard from Washington...

Haven’t you heard? Your social security card or number cannot be used for identification. I don’t know if they still put this little bit of BS on the front of the cards, but mine has it.

Selective enforcement !!!
A friend (in Buffalo NY) had his SSN swiped by a former room mate. The IRS came after my friend with a vengence for W2s filed in Florida by the ID thief. It took him 3 months (and a 3 days in jail) to convince them the Florida W2s weren’t his.

I use to work on a farm as their payroll secretary. We asked for the A-19 from all employees, which included their address where their W-2's could be sent. Now recall the employee is required to pay for a part of their social security payment.

Every year without fail we would get back at least 30 W-2's back from the post office saying no such address.

We got fined for every one of them that was returned.

I am really curious just were all that money went to that has never been claimed.
