Perhaps I’m just naive, but it seems to me that the IRS should have a VALID LIST of SSNs, Name, Birth date, and Address. And when a W2 comes in and the name, birthday don’t match, it should be flagged as possibly fraudulent and the info turned over to investigators. (Address may not be helpful as addresses change, but your name and bday don’t).

"In fact, past SSA inspector general reports have discovered that certain employers, year after year, file massive numbers of W-2s that bear fraudulent SSNs or valid SSNs that don't belong to the employee using it. These W-2s go into what SSA calls the Earnings Suspense File (ESF), where SSA deposits what it calls "no-match" W-2s. "And how many of those employers were prosecuted?

Why are we still using paper SS ID cards? They should at least be as ‘smart’ as our DL’s or Military ID cards. And have to have new photos on them every 10 years.

You give them the potential employees name and SS# and they tell you if it's valid.

Perhaps Im just naive, but it seems to me that the IRS should have a VALID LIST of SSNs, Name, Birth date, and Address. What, do you really think a government employee has enough common sense to realize it is physically impossible to be in more than one place at a time.

Except the IRS and Social Security love to recieve the money, so they don’t do anything about the fraud.
