CHILD RAPE IN DELAWARE: PUBLIC SCHOOL TEACHERS GET A PASS
Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights ^ | 20 Jun 07 | Catholic League

House lawmakers in Delaware approved a bill yesterday that eliminated the two-year statute of limitations for victims of child sex abuse, but it does not apply to public school teachers. An attempt by Rep. Greg Lavelle to pass an amendment waiving immunity for government workers failed (he will try again). The bill now goes back to the Senate. Leading the charge to protect the teachers is Sen. Karen Peterson.

Catholic League president Bill Donohue commented as follows:

“The degree of corruption in the Delaware legislature is matched only by the selective indignation its lawmakers have for child rape. The legislators are owned—lock, stock and barrel—by the teachers unions. Teachers can grope all they want. They can rape little kids. And now they will be protected by making it harder to prosecute them. Yet the most reliable data on this subject, presented by Dr. Charol Shakeshaft of Hofstra University, show that public school employees have the highest rate of child sexual abuse in the nation.

“This sick game was tried last year in Colorado. Three bills were introduced trying to stick it to private institutions while giving public ones a pass; thanks to public pressure, they did not succeed. When a bill was introduced that would blanket all institutions equally, one of the lawmakers owned by the teachers unions called the Catholic Church’s bluff and said the bishops wouldn’t support it. He was wrong. And so why did the bills fail? Not because of resistance from the Catholic Church, but because of the teachers unions.

“If there were a law that said Catholic teachers should get immunity from a bill that makes it easier to sue them for child sex abuse cases, there would be screaming and yelling the likes of which we’ve never heard before. But when public school teachers get the green light, all is well in the bowels of the legislature. We are contacting the lawmakers today.”

The legislators are owned—lock, stock and barrel—by the teachers unions.

And not just in lil' ol' Delaware.

I'm just surprised they didn't declare that a pubic uh, PUBLIC school teacher has total immunity for child rape.

Academic freedom, requirements to teach sex ed, and all that...

Apparently, public school teachers have found a new way to supplement their income too - or are they drug dealers who have found an innovative way to expand their customer base? You decide.

There are countless stories of teachers and principals, no less, being arrested for selling drugs to their students. So, it looks like kids are being preyed upon in more ways than one.

Oh yes, exempt the people who spend the most time with children. That makes so much sense.

I’m afraid I’m generally pessimistic about the public schools and nobody should get a pass for this sort of ungodly perversion that has terrible effects that often lasts generations, but the author of the title of the article mightbe going a little too far. The title makes it sound like every public school teacher in Delaware is a child molestation suspect. Despite the unions and the educational establishment, I’m sure that the great majority of Delaware public school teachers try to do a good job in often trying circumstances.

Send this to Bill O’Reilly. He’ll get it handled.

What a Travesty...those who should be most accountable are the least.

Upside world we are living in.

It does if you are a lib-uh-rhul.

*sigh.

Setting up a safe harbor for pedophiles is exactly the wrong thing to do.

The state legislator would be hard pressed to come up with a better way to preferentially attract perverts into the system, as if there weren't enough there already.

I’m sure that the great majority of Delaware public school teachers try to do a good job in often trying circumstances.

I'm sure this will change.

I’m afraid you’re right. If this policy is established, the profession will become a pervert magnet. But I can’t believe that there are not a whole lot of current teachers who have some real issues with the union’s “representation” in this sad affair.

..the profession will become a pervert magnet..

Study after study shows that this has been the case for a long time, but the MSM will never go after one of the sacred cows.

Union bosses pay as much attention to their members as congress and the president pay to the voters.

Seems to be one more reason why a pedophile would want to become a teacher...

The media took the Catholic Church and GOP to task for “covering up” sex crimes. Meanwhile the NEA sees to it that their members will be safe from prosecution for felonies.

I wrote to Senator Peterson about this, and receieved a defensive, angry reply immediately about how Bill Donohue got the facts wrong. I wrote back, and AGAIN got an immediate snippy email back. This went on two more times.

Have you ever heard of this kind of infantile behavior from a SENATOR (or senator’s lackey?) Ususally you get an impersonal “thank you for your feedback but I don’t agree” email back if anything. I finally told the emailer I would pray for him or her, whoever it was.

BTW I requested Bill O’Reilly to do a story on this.

It's not just child sex abuse...sex harassment is rampant and verbal abuse from principals and district supervisors to children happen too....and the school board and legislature just looks the other way and covers up. Outraged parents have no options.

Must be great being a member of the "First State Clique." These people can shoot someone dead in the street and they would never be prosecuted, ever....until Judgment Day that is. One of their members just got away with stealing 1.6 million from the Perry Anthony Salon...she's married to Matt Fallis, HR director of the Appoquinimink School District. She bragged she'd never go to jail. She got three years. That's it! She'll be out in 18 months. Same thing would happen to school employees...they never pay the price.
