I posted this in General/Chat also, but just in case you missed it.

The offer is for 768/128 service, but I share a 1.5Mbs/128k service with others in my office, so I can't imagine that this would be insufficient.

Verizon is offering TV, Phone and Internet for 99.00/month. They come in, install fiber optics in your house and away you go.

They don’t service my area yet however employees here have gotten it and love it.

Cool — thanks for the info.

They’re charging me like $40 per month now for my DSL, time to give them a ringy.

I am scheduled for the Verizon FIOS upgrade in early July.

Hoo Baby!

But with taxes, fees and the HDTV upgrade, it comes out to $138 a month, not $99. Still a good deal.

Verizon doesn’t offer anything in my area (southern Wake County, NC), except cell phone.

Time Warner Cable offers something similar, but I don’t want VoIP, because of the lack of 911-enhanced service guarantees.

The $10/month offer is for a 1-year commitment, but the price is good until the end of 2009.

my guy got the 49.00 a month version, does not have t.v. It looks like from the website there are several install options.

A friend of mines son works for Verizon and is part of this program and from technical level really likes it.

Once you have fibre, I don't think you can ever go back. DSL/plain-old-tel-service is noisy, sensitive to wind and rain if you have overhead wires. When I had DSL, my download rate was all over the map, probably according to the background noise level.

With fibre, voice calls are crystal clear - noise FREE! At first, I thought the phone was broken without the background noise that was always previously there to remind me. Download rates are a steady 5 mb/sec.

I just got the Comcast “Triple Play”, they told me it would be $139 a month. I received my bill a couple of days ago, it was $200! I’m considering dumping Comcast, only thing is I like the highspeed internet, which I’ve had for about 5 years now.

I’m getting tired of being ripped off on a daily basis by every utility co.

Sorry, the $10 offer is for new customers only, and it is only for a couple of years or so. After that they can charge you whatever.

I’m on the FIOS contact list for when it becomes available in my area.

Yes, it is for new customers only, and yes the price is effective for ‘only’ 30 months, after which it can go up to the (current) price of $20/month.

But you can cancel it after the 12th month without penalty, if you wish.

Still sounds like a decent deal for a casual surfer to me.

Any idea what the initial cost for set-up and equipment would be?

Sounds like a pretty good deal even for those paying close to $40 a month for 1.5/348 DSL.

I’m deep in flyover country. No DSL available at all (residential dialup only). I do, however still pay the “Gore tax” to subsidize high-speed internet to the deprived inner cities.

If you do it yourself, installation is free. ($99 for a professional to come out)

The modem is $75, but there is a $75 rebate on the modem.

Net=$0

Thanks. I’m a bit rusty on DSL. I disconnected my landline phone service and went with cellular about 6 months ago - with DSL service, do you have to have landline phone service or can they just run DSL without it?

You have to have a land-line with BellSouth (now AT&T)

It is NOT for “naked DSL”

I want it so I don’t tie up my land-line, and it’s cheaper than dial-up.

BUT, you can have the “cheap” (low usage, about $15/month) land-line and the offer is still good.

So, it would run you about ~$25/month, plus taxes/fees (darn it), but that’s still pretty cheap, and you’d gain the land-line (for emergencies?).

Yes, they can. But mine won't.

Wife is Verizon Retiree....we have the FiOS 15/2 package, HDTVDVR box, and VOIP telephone for over a year now. Going back to dial up or DSL would be akin to going from a Maseratti to a pedal car. I don’t think so...
