NEW YORK
A new Gallup Poll will only reinforce those who claim that while the rich get richer most Americans don't feel they are sharing in the growth in our economy. The stock market may be climbing and the unemployment remains relatively low, but 7 in 10 Americans believe the economy is getting worse -- the most negative reading in nearly six years.

Let’s see my Roth IRA is up 25.2% for the last 12 months.

I just got a 6% raise and a bonus.

And gasoline, while expensive, is 50 cents cheaper than it was a few months ago.

Worst economy ever :)

People put too much stock into the price of gas as an indication of the economy’s strength.

Alas, the media is the media...thus, we are in the WORST economy since Hoover!

Yep, say it enough, and the idiots believe it. But they think it’s their neighbor that is hurting, not themselves which just baffles me.

Your neighbor losing his job is a ‘recession’, you losing your job is a ‘depression’....

I think people believe the economy is gas prices. For instance the best economy in most people’s mind is the 90’s when gas prices were under a dollar. Today paying 3 dollars a gallon plus, people believe the economy is in the tank. That is seriously what people think!!! You can take that too the bank.

If they think this is a bad economy, then they must not remember the Carter era in late 1970’s!!!

This country is in for a very rude and painful awakening.

And if the energy bill boondoggle in the Congress passes they will be paying more at the pump in the future.

When I used to sell municipal bonds, people often used to say “no” because they thought rates were going up. This was in 1985. Duh. Those folks missed the biggest bond rally of the century.

The economy is fine. It’s just that many Americans, bless’em, can’t count.

I rarely participate in polls, but I did get called for a poll on the economy about a week ago, and it might have been this one.

I answered all their questions. I was very upbeat on the economy -- nation is doing better, I'm doing better, I expect the future to be better, etc.

But after the numbers were crunched, the results seem to have come out differently.

Further proof that propaganda works.

Commies wouldn't use it if it didn't.

Invest in the stock market; you can go along for the ride too!

Well I am a conservative representative middle class person here, and it is bad. Property taxes are sky high here in NJ (would leave it if I could) along with everything else, paying more to the boss for healthcare, working more hours, thusfore using more gas, utility bills are high,, living paycheck to paycheck, 401K is non-existent, had to re-fi the house again and I can go on. I work in retail, and I see the slowdown in a business of non commodity goods, and hear the same from my friends and customers.

Not trying to bring everyone down, but the forum posts sound like the government officials, out of touch.

“I live in Michigan.”

The good news is that you can’t get any lower than rock bottom.
