Man who stole political signs sentenced
Atlanta Journal-Constitution ^ | 6-19-2007 | David Simpson

Posted on 06/19/2007 11:15:56 AM PDT by Turbopilot

A DeKalb County developer who fell into a children's trap to catch a yard sign thief agreed Tuesday to a deal that will spare him a criminal record.

Charles Buckley was accused of swiping a political campaign sign from Hank Freeman's yard in July 2006. He was caught when Freeman's children, ages 6 to 11, staked out their Oak Grove property, hoping to catch the thief.

Buckley apologized to Freeman Tuesday in DeKalb State Court for stealing the sign supporting Don Broussard, who was running against Jeff Rader in a primary contest for the DeKalb County Commission.

Under the terms of an agreement with the DeKalb solicitor's office, Buckley will do 100 hours of community service. He will work for an American Civil Liberties Union project that helps convicted felons regain their voting rights after they have completed their sentences.

No mention whatsoever of political parties in the article; therefore, the perp is a Democrat and the politician whose sign he stole is undoubtedly a Republican.

Further evidence thereof is that the thief's "sentence" is to work for the ACLU to ensure that his fellow felons have the opportunity to cast more ballots for Democrats.

Its a primary contest, so they are either both dems, or both republicans.

I'm guessing dems.

It was a primary election, as the article states.

Don Broussard and Jeff Rader are both Democrats.

This was blue-on-blue violence.

Actually, I checked . . . it was a Democrat primary.

How the hell does a political project to help criminals regain their voting rights qualify as community service?

Even better. A Democrat commits a crime against fellow Democrats. He’s tried and sentenced by Democrats and his punishment is to work with other Democrats to support a Democrat cause. Sounds like he got thrown right into the briar patch.

Since the candidates were opponents in a primary, it is rather unlikely that one was a D and the other was R.

Working with the ACLU would give me shivers.

How nice of the Dekalb Solicitor's office to help the perp choose his own sentence.

I wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that Jeff Rader, Buckley's chosen man, won.

Nah.

This is normal, routine, expected behavior by emotionally stunted, juvenile Democrats.

Next week this guy will toilet paper his house.

He was sentenced to political activism on behalf of those that share his political bent? That’s ridiculous.

“He will work for an American Civil Liberties Union project...”

and he’ll be the only one working on the project who does not have a felony record.

In all fairness, I worked in county politics for a while. Both sides do this kind of stuff. Rove is notorious for it.
It is a dirty game.

You could have guessed that the victim was a Dem. Otherwise, they wouldn’t have even bothered with the prosecution.

It is deemed a service to help the Demonrat community.

IF I was ever stupid enough to do this crime, I’d rather pick up roadside garbage for the 100 hours.

And why is the government giving ACLU/NAMBLA free workers.

Me too. I would ask for a neutral organization to work for and if that were not possible, I would take the jail time.
