sounds like my ex-husband...
This is the Duke Alumni site. You can ask them directly what they are going to do.
The former Duke coach’s name is Mike Pressler.
He just released a book on the case last Tuesday.
Check this out:
http://www.diverseeducation.com/artman/publish/article_6902.shtml
They are now saying that the ad they signed didn’t accuse the players nor did it “rush to judgement”, but was a commentary on the “sexist and racist campus, and country”.
No, libs don’t hate their country... whatever gives you that idea?
The former coach has already received a settlement from Duke University. What does that tell you?
I don’t think it’s Brown.
I believe he’s now at Bryant University which is a Division II school.
Thanks for posting this, Ed. Let’s all visit. But let’s keep it nice because they are probably outraged, too, and embarrassed. Alums have no control over what happens at the place where they graduated, unless they are big donors or very angry little donors who all gang up. Let’s do our best to support them. They may very well have a plan outlined now.
The coach and Duke signed an undisclosed settlement amount. I only hope it had plenty of zeroes.
“duke faculty have yet to make formal apology”
comrades. the commissars of the american comintern do not have to make apologies because they are infallible. they are politically correct to the nth degree. they are intellectually superior to all of mankind. they will save mankind. all of their judgements are final because they are perfect. for these reasons, do not expect any apologies. (see you all at the re-education camps)
Liberals can admit to being wrong but only if they can blame someone for misleading them.
If they do sue, I hope they force the college to do something very creative with the money, i.e. funding lacrosse fields, equipment and instruction for poorer school districts. Based on what I've seen, none of the families involved is hurting for money. Taking the money from a lawsuit for themselves may damage the message that, indeed, needs to be sent.
with the utmost respect to you...
they don’t pay any heed to civilized letters, imho. (wait and see if they honor you with a reply)
They will not comment at this point because of possible civil lawsuits. I hope the "88" get dragged into court and get to explain who organized the smear campaign, who paid for it and what they were trying to accomplish.
My sons friend plays for him and he is well liked by all the players.
I am a Scout leader. I work with kids in the 11 - 18 year old range a lot. One thing that I deal with a lot is the kid whose pulled some stunt and either refused to admit that he’s done anything wrong or (if there is irrefutable evidence that he actually committed the act) that what he did was wrong. The final refuge is to say quickly and insincerely “Sorry” and expecting that to end the matter.
What I tell them is that the difference between a boy and a man is that a boy seeks to evade responsibility for what they’ve done, whereas a man embraces it. A man looks people in the eye, admits he was wrong, and then not only says they are sorry but takes whatever action is in his power to right that wrong.
These people are acting like children.
I dont agree. If I were one of the players, I would want to have Nifongs house as part of the settlement, Sleep in his bed, Urinate on that bed and then donate the house to the Duke LAX team for a party house in perpetuity. I would want to rub it in as Nifong moved into a cardboard box as his new home.
There’s also a lengthy article about the entire incident in the alumni magazine.
In that article, an unconvincing discussion of the “Group Of 88” begins on page 3, here:
http://www.dukemagazine.duke.edu/dukemag/issues/050607/year3.html
Reading it one will see that the eggheads at Duke have taken cover under half-baked sociological double-talk of “race, sexism, and class”, which is the normal refuge of tenured cowards.
I’ll read it again, but I didn’t notice any discussion of simple concepts such as right and wrong, or whether the “Group of 89” might be liable for slander. It goes without saying that there’s no mention of their long-overdue apology to the players, the team, and the entire Duke community.
I hope and pray there is some leverage to sue the bastards.
“They will offer no sincere apology, because obviously something happened.”
Of course, they are rich, white males. That is a crime in itself.
