As of now, the President of Duke has made numerous statements essentially chronicling the outcomes of this case as it moves forward. Absent is an apology to the lacrosse team for cancelling their season, to the lacrosse coach for firing him, and perhaps most glaring is the absence of a faculty statement offering an apology to the three students they branded as rapists to fit their own knee-jerk myopic world-view. If you are outraged by this, please let Duke know. Make them never forget the time and energy they had to spend dealing with this issue, or we can all sit back wait for it to happen again. Here is one good place to confront the wack-a-doo factor at colleges and universities in our country.
John Burness | (919) 681-3788 | john.burness@duke.edu
Mr. Burness, I've written to you before. I do not require a response.
I do, however, want you to know that many of us are still looking for a faculty statement about the now debunked Duke Lacrosse Rape Trial. With the disbarment of Mike Nifong, now would be a good time. I think those faculty who signed the now infamous public statement owe it to the community at large, in higher education and outside of it, to apologize for jumping the gun and branding those young men as rapists. Duke's reputation suffers and higher education suffers as long as a statement is lacking. All of us should be able to look to college professors as people who exercise judgment and prudence before drawing conclusions. I do not envy the position you are in, but Duke has a lot to make up for. A coach was fired, a sports team's season was cancelled, and three students were ostracized under the cloud of terrible charges. And the people accusing all of them couldn't have been more wrong. A faculty statement is in order, at the very least. If they don't make one, they are small people with even smaller minds, and this fact is made more evident with each day that goes by without a formal apology.
Good luck as you continue to deal with this tremendous error of judgment on many people's parts.
Sincerely,
A...
These are spineless liberal apologists. They will offer no sincere apology, because “obviously something happened”.
/sarcasm for those of you who don’t recognize it
The first law of liberalism.
NEVER EVER ADMIT YOU WERE WRONG!
Duke Alumni need to force the firing of the Gang of 88.
Duke Alumni need to force the firing of the Gang of 88.
I keep wondering about the coach that lost his job
I hope they get their arses sued off.
If no liberal media asked for it, it will not come.
The press rules behavior in modern times, worldwide.
Would you want to go back, though?
I wonder what this whole affair did to Duke’s admissions and fundraising.
Excellent letter.
You should send one to Duke’s President.
IIRC, he was as responsible as anyone for the melee that occurred after Nifong filed charges.
He assumed guilt upon the entire team, cancelled the season and fired the coach - all without knowing the facts.
nah, but they owe him
He was on WEEI this morning. He’s coaching at Brown.
I think one could make a case against those faculty members who openly criticize the players by name in petitions and newspaper letters.
I think the players should sue each one individually including the Black Panthers who openly criticized the players.
nick
Now he has grounds to take them to court and sue the crap out of them. I sincerely hope he does.
The left never apologizes for anything. I sorta admire that. I wish we had more cojones when it comes to stuff like this.
Thanks for the link to the Gang of 88’s latest slant. They’re spinning so fast, I’m surprised their heads don’t fly off.
