You don’t have the votes to pass only 100% of what you want into law. Listening to you, you will not accept anything less then 100% of what you want. At what point are you all going to realize that is a mutually exclusive position? You can have one or the other, you cannot have both.

I'm not sure why you clumped me in the all or nothing crowd

I am fully aware that I will not get every thing I won't and I don't have a problem compromising .. never have

But I do ask they (Congress) present a Bill that won't bankrupt our country

And regardless of what you say .. that Immigration Bill would have done exactly that

That Immigration Bill of Kennedy and McPain's sucked !

I think everyone is baffled why the congress and ADM. are going against the majority will of the people...

I have only suspicions. There may be highly exclusive research indicating that each party's weak approach to border security will not drive their core constituents away based on the polarization that exists on just about any other issue that one can imagine.

However, there is one constituency that could react adversely to border controls etc. that are deemed too punitive toward illegals who stir a natural and understandably deep sympathy within their ranks. The Hispanic vote may well be in play in such a manner as to explain the Congress' and the President's attitudes.

I offer this theory as pure political guesswork. I have deep respect for all of the ethnic groups that compose this nation.

That’s probably as good a guess as any and could be it, over concern about a vote that has yet to be cast.
If it is it shows that the critters can think long term if they want.
You gotta wonder what will make them do so.
My fear is that is another 911 or worse or a string of 911’s,that is my biggest fear.

I didn’t say anything at all like “Pass this bill or else”.

I haven’t actually said anything here about my personal opinions on this issue. What has happened is a bunch of people around here have assumed they knew my position because I did not blanket agree 100% with their opinions.

So don’t assume, dear one.

I am giving you some observations on this issue strictly based on the history of the debate. I am asking a question out of idle curiosity, not out of any nefarious plot to influence the debate. Would not matter, even if I did have such a plot since this bill is not going to pass. I am just idly curious and trying to understand people’s thinking here.

Immigration started out being this niche argument here on Free Republic. Pretty much restricted to dedicated threads.

At that time the argument was “DC got to do something about Illegal Immigration, it is destroying the country”.

Ok so DC started doing some things and everything was either the wrong thing, or DC was tricking them and really did not mean it, or whatever. EVEN the 100% Enforcement bill that the Democrat fillibustered was treated as suspect for awhile.

So over the years of watching this debate, I have seen the status quo stayed unchanged. So the status quo is destroying the country and the purposed solutions are are going to destroy the country. Ok then what do you want?

Try looking at this from the Pols position. They heard all this about “crises”. So in typical DC fashion they tried to come up with a “solution”. But as usual, the DC “solution” is spend more on more bureaucracy while giving everyone something of what they wanted. As usual, the “compromise” is worse then the “crises” that promoted the “solution”.

So help the poor little simple souls in DC out. Don’t tell them what you do NOT want, tell them what you want.

Keep it simple so their simple little politician minds can grasp it. Don’t make it abstract like “Enforce the laws”.

Make it concrete. We want a Fence from the Gulf of Mexico to the Pacific Ocean. We want 10 times more spent on ICE agents. We want it to be a federal crime to aid an illegal alien in obtaining fake documents. We want a mandatory fine for businesses caught employing illegals of $x per illegal.

Instead of waiting for DC to do the right thing, TELL DC what you want. Write your OWN “Immigration Reform Bill”.

Gee, employers try to lower labor costs imagine that. Nice conservative view that employers are actually another form of welfare. Everyone knows that profits are evil exploitation of the masses. Do you support a higher minimum wage?

So how are they going to find workers if they deport 12 million of them??

Pray for W and Our Troops

Please read post 325 if you want to take part in this. Sorry I misunderstood, you were posting on the topic, I though you would like to be part of the discussion.

Again, I never said “take this bill or else”. I still have yet to offer any personal opinion on this issue.

LOL. It reminds me of the employer who was shocked and surprised to learn that 33 of his employees were using the same SS number.

I think post # 333 should shed some light on what is really going on here, employers trying to cut costs any way possible and ignoring laws now on the books forbidding them to hire illegals.

I keep answering your questions and you don't answer mine. Give me an answer to my post #287, i.e., "And when the unemployment rate goes up, as it surely will given the cyclical nature of the economy, who will be the people losing their jobs?"

And no, I don't support a higher minimum wage. I would leave it up to the market if it were truly an even playing field, which it isn't because of the illegals.

ROFLLL!!!

you asked a question... I responded...

then you accused me of putting words in your mouth...

all I did was answer the question...

we can pintificate all day...

I am trying to tell you— what you and I say about the bill is hogwash...

what counts is knowing what the REAL purpose of the Bill is...knowing what is actually IN the bill....and nailing the lies they spin....

bottom line Johnnie— personal feeeeeeeeeeelings mean nothing....nothing.....

DO you WANT this bill?

DO you?

DO you want the SPP?

Do you think the SPP or the bill are Constitutional? Conservative? Good for the country?

why argue anything if you claim you have no opinion...

you do have an opinion...and your name calling of those against it... calling them dogmatic of Bush haters is expressing an opinion weather you believe it or not....

In order to debate this issuw— you have to decide where you stand— then stick with facts.

NO ONE likes this bill— not even the folks voting for it.

But there is $$$$$$ to be gained and cushy jobs to keep in DC....

They put these things above our security and sovereignty...

THAT is the sad state of affairs in our Capital.

and MOST Americans- on BOTH sides of the aisle- ARE FED UP WITH IT!
