I think what’s happened is the same thing that happened in western Iraq. The US ad in this case a withdrawing Israel allowed the renegades (al qaeda/hamas/hizballah) to gain political leverage through the introduction of democracy and the predictable following destabilization as no strong man appears to hold the cretins together. So the decent ones meaning the women, old people and children were forced to endure these crazies and now the other guys, the bespectacled maliki and abbas have political cover to outlaw the emotional young male’s party.
Well, I hope the Old Hag gets what she deserves - she is the one, after all, who said she would have no problem with her child becoming a suicide bomber!
Abbas is the “President” and Hamas party won majority seats in the “Parliament” and thus holds the “Prime Minister” position. So yes in a sorts Abbas has power, at least over his faction.

lol, well all you need to do is create some poverty, spread some socialism, and bring in some terrorists and you’ll be set. :)
Good start, now we just need to outlaw Fatah, the PLO, PA, Islamic Jihad, Hezbollah, etc. etc. and kill all the terrorists. Then Abu Mazen will have to decide if he’s really a reformer looking for peace, or not.
How about the United States outlawing illegal immigration.
