Hear that giant sucking sound -- It is the sound of a rapidly growing political vacuum on the Right in this country...
Free Republic is an amazing resource with many thousands of members.
Why not harness that resource and start our own third party with *REAL* conservative principles.
The Republican Party may have left a lot of us recently - but that does not necessarily mean that we have to leave our conservative principles.
Out of this large principled group, there has to be someone that is able to create a new party and make it a new force in national politics.
Qualifications: REAL conservative; Clean background; and the ability to clearly Communicate ideas to the American people.
Any takers?? You would have the beginnings of an organization with thousands of volunteers already in place in every state of the Union.
I do wish we could organize a conservative caucus within the Good Old Party I used to belong to. I want to rejoin but I won't till I can respect what it's standing for and actually doing!!!
I and a lot of my FRiends have STANDARDS!!!
/sarcasm”
Yep, agree for sure. A third party conservative movement would only do one thing - assure the election of Dem’s/Liberals.
It’s a tempting notion but unless the ultra-Left should start their own third party movement (need a four-way split to be successful) it’s foolish for conservatives do it.
I'll fulfill that office that requires such tact, such subtlety, such a deft touch......Secretary of State, damn you.
Perot is no conservative but people thought he was in 1992, and he looked a lot more conservatve than Poppy Bush did...and he was more conservative than Poppy Bush, who was a tax raising, mealy mouthed democrat appeasing weakling. Like father like son, I’m sorry to say.
Heres why:
A FR candadate would have to have the courage of Ron Paul, with the winability of Fred Thompson with the appeal of Guliani; which eventually means that the only way to make everyone on the forum happy is for the candadate to kill all 3 of his personalities and that would give you a George W. Bush which is bad because he sucks because he is so great.
Kill the lawyers, then one less to deal with!
Herding cats..... That will leave a mark.
:-)
What to do? I have no good ideas right now.
2008 Third Party = President Hillary Rodham Clinton.
A previous Third Party thanks to Ross Perot =’d President William Jefferson Clinton.
I’m not going there. Are you? (Hint: Don’t be stupid.)
Two more words, Bill Clinton.
And I'm not happy about having to point that out.
One of the benefits of living in a large city and county of over 3 million people, you see reality.
folks living in a burg tend to hunker down and don’t see the big picture. You have limited knowledge and a very narrow view.
I don’t believe in cutting off my nose to spite my face.
Third Parties only bring Democrats.
Maybe DU or KOS may suit you since you will ensure a Democrat victory with your thoughts.
So having feckless elitist gutless 'R's is better than feckless gutless socialist 'D's both which will sell my soul to the highest bidder
Yes, I will sleep better at night. < / s >
The sucking sound is generally from the woman Clinton never met.
We'll have to get him nominated first, and you can guess how difficult that will be. Remember the last time?
We have the government we allow and deserve.
Then in the general election, I can vote for the more conservative candidates.
OK, now tell us what a “real” Conservative is. That has to be someone who agrees with every position that every Conservative holds.
There has to be 100% agreement on abortion laws (not just pro-life position); immigration laws (no disagreement at all over nuances about guest workers or standards for new immigrants, or whether we even accept any more); tax codes; foreign policy - including Iraq; tax code; environment; racial and gender issues, etc.
And if you add up all the people who are in total agreement on all issues, how many people do you have? Maybe 1,000, half of whom don’t vote?
