Going Down with the Ship(Michael Reagan & the GOP)
Human Events Online ^ | 06/15/2007 | Michael Reagan

Posted on 06/16/2007 6:34:45 AM PDT by kellynla

The S.S. GOP is sinking fast, and it looks like Skipper Bush is going down with his ship. That’s only fair -- after all, he’s the one who torpedoed his own ship with the immigration-reform-bill warhead. Not fair is the fact that he’s taking his party down with him.

I can understand his stubbornness in sticking with this insane program that doesn’t do a damned thing to plug the leaking borders that are allowing the United States to be flooded with all manner and shapes of illegal aliens, some of them terrorists who want to kill large numbers of Americans -- he really has nothing to lose.

In less than 18 months he’ll be history -- one of those curiosities who at one moment wielded the vast powers of the presidency and the next found themselves with all the other John Q. Citizens.

That’s not true of the senators who stand on the bridge with him as the water rises up toward the quarter deck where they can either jump into the life boats and survive, or go down with the ship.

I’m amazed at how many of them appear to be choosing a watery grave. After all, it should be more than obvious that standing firm behind this monstrosity of a bill carries with it the death penalty -- it’s just plain suicidal.

He might not yet fully realize it, but Sen. John McCain has suddenly gone from being a serious candidate for the presidency to that of being a politician with no political future at all. And I can’t imagine how Senator Lindsay Graham could ever imagine that his strong advocacy of a bill that in the blink of an eye turns lawbreakers, some of the most serious kind, into instant legal immigrants could be helpful to his political future. Ditto John Kyl and the others.

If it weren’t so serious, it would leave us laughing at the spectacle we saw when the president went up to Capitol Hill Tuesday to try to revive the bill.

It wasn’t serious politics, it was a joke.

Did he really, seriously think that Harry Reid was going to be his friend and help patch the sinking GOP hull?

Here you have a president with a dismal 30-something-percent approval rating rubbing elbows with a group -- Congress -- that has a more-dismal 27 percent approval rating being led by a guy with a horrendous 19 percent approval rating. It doesn’t get more comedic than that.

These people are living in a dream world, and one that has not yet been shattered by the incredible backlash from Americans outraged to see their national sovereignty imperiled and determined to keep the bill from ever becoming law. The message is loud and clear: kill the damned thing or get ready to pack your bags and head for home because your political career is all but over.

To continue to push for passage indicates that the backers are either stupid, or arrogant and determined to impose their wills on the nation whether the people like it or not. When this bill emerged from the back room where it was crafted in secret by the likes of Teddy Kennedy, Rush Limbaugh took one look at it and renamed it the “Comprehensive Destroy the Republican Party Bill.”

No matter how many Democrat senators back the bill in a Senate they control, Republicans will take the blame for it. Unless the GOP roars back and in one voice makes it clear that their president does not speak for them on this issue, and goes all-out to kill it, 2008 is going to be a sorry time for all Republicans.

The late Sam Francis must be grinning up there in paradise as he watches the GOP prove once again that it is what he called it “the Stupid Party.”

After all, stupid is what stupid does. And when stupid defies the will of the American people, stupid goes under.

Interesting email that I just received and worth sharing with Freepers:

This came to me from someone else. Goodness, it’s gotten to where I wish I could have come up with one like this, but it would probably cost me my Army
pension?!

President George Bush
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue
Washington, DC 20500

Dear President Bush:

I am absolutely disgusted with your support of S. 1348, a bill which would legalize millions of lawbreakers and hurt
millions of Americans who find it difficult to find work. This is not the legacy your want.

What is the matter with you? Why are you more supportive of Mexicans than you are of Americans? Why do you hold your countrymen in such contempt? You are a fraud. You certainly are no Conservative. I no longer believe you are
a patriot and I sincerely doubt you are even a Christian.

You are a corporatist poseur as a Conservative. You cynically kiss up to social conservatives, get their support and then push your corporatist agenda. You make Bill Clinton look like “Honest Abe”. You are Carl Rove’s Frankenstein Monster in the White House.

I have been a conservative since 1964 when I supported Goldwater so I know what a conservative is and you certainly are not one. I used to be a Republican, until you came along. Now I am a registered Independent.

I worked in downtown Los Angeles on May 1, 2005 and I saw these criminal invader’s signs and flags. They flew the Mexican Flag and signs that implied that we Americans were the illegal aliens and that this was Mexico, not the
U.S.A. Your buddies in the Mexican Government teach them that from the time they are children. We have a foreign army in this country that believes that this country should return the territories it gained in the 1840s to Mexico.
That army is bigger than the armed forces of the United States during the Second World War. You will be responsible for the next Civil War some day. You live in a sheltered environment, like limousine liberals such as that
disgusting alcoholic cretin and satyr Ted Kennedy. You have no idea of the damage you are doing to this beloved nation. The United States is the greatest thing that God ever let sit at his foot stool. Why are you selling it on an international garage sale?

We are being invaded! You support this invasion! Why? Why do you hold the American people is such contempt? What is the matter with you? Are you stupid..or as crooked as a pretzel?

You are the worst President in my living memories and I go all the way back to Harry Truman. You are the first President in my living memories to be dedicated to the destruction of the American way of life. The others who
diminished it were just fools, you seem to be dedicated to it. I cannot explain you to myself without references to abnormal psychology or conspiracy theories. I don’t subscribe to conspiracy theories, but you lend
credence to some of them. I hope you live to be a
hundred years old so you can live with your historical legacy.

I look forward to visiting your Presidential Library some day. It will be the largest collection of Cliff Notes on the Planet Earth! Clinton’s will be the largest collection of Hustler magazines!

It has been reported that some of your staff had a discussion of Lincoln’s famous quote “You can fool some of the people all of the time, all of the people some of the time. But you can’t fool all of the people all of the
time.” One of your underlings allegedly said “Well two out of three ain’t bad”. Well George, you had your two out of three a long, long time ago. If you think that the American people still believe you then you really are a dunce!

A very disappointed,

Mr. Addison Bond

P.S. Please take that American Flag off of your lapel ( the one that was probably made in Red China) and replace it with a platinum dollar sign with
diamond studs.

.

Amnesty is the death knell for both parties but pandering for those hispanic votes has taken over any sense of logic!

The Hispanic people who have nothing to do with the illegals would vote democrat anyway, they are usually Catholics and democrats.

Because they give amnesty to millions of illegals it will not sway the voters once they become legal anyway, their socialist mentality has always been a dem mentality.

Mexico is sending their dregs of society over the border as was evident by the horrific crimes being commited by hispanic males as shown on local TV nightly news. While these criminals enter this Country ILLEGALLY.

AMERICAN young men and women are losing their lives in the war fighting to keep the criminals and the rest of us safe,
outrageous! Send these criminals to fight in the war and protect the Country they want to call their own (yeh right)
BEFORE they are given amnesty and see how quick they exit this country...don’t let the door hit ya on your way out...

John McCain has suddenly gone from being a serious candidate for the presidency to that of being a politician with no political future at all.

And I thought all along that he had done that two elections ago.

No Ronald Reagan in the group. Rudy talks out of both sides of his mouth and McCain needs to be on meds. Conservatives are going to have to scrutinize their candidates more carefully or we’re in the toilet bowl being flushed.

What gets me is the matchless stupidty of what the amnesty bill's proponents in DC, the RNC, and trolls here on FR say. They have no rational rebuttals; their arguments consist of these three tiresome statements repeated ad nauseum ad infinitum:

1. If you're against these bills you're a racist, just like the people who were against the Irish and the Eyetalians.

Gee, I guess I missed the part in Geography class about Ireland and Italy sharing a common border with the US, AND about them losing territory to the US in a war, AND of their citizenry being taught that they have a right to take back these lands by any means necessary including violence. There is NO COMPARISON between today's illegal aliens and yesteryear's legal Mediterranean , Slavic, and Celtic immigrants. when did these folks ever march in the streets by the hundreds of thousands, waving their country's flag and proclaiming they were going to "take back" the southwest and expel the "European intruders" ?

2. If you're against this bill, get ready for Hilary or Pelosi as president.

It offends me when this crap is trotted out by some dimwit troll on FR, but when it's a part of an RNC mailing, my blood pressure really spikes, because the contempt for my intelligence becomes just too obvious. Well, golly, why should I be scared of a NP or a HRC presidency? What are they going to do : Be in favor of open borders and the loss of US sovereignty (eg LOST treaty), a preference for criminal aliens over US citizens, and delight in showing an utter contempt for the values of US citizens, 80% of whom are united against this bill? We have that NOW, so how can getting more of the same be any scarier, just because that POS has a D after its name instead of an R? I like what someone said about the two parties : They're both wings of the same evil bird of prey, and the prey is the American citizenry.

3. If you're against this bill, you don't support the president in the War on Terror.

What War on Terror? If the people in DC really cared about the WOT and gave a good G*****n about the lives of Americans, the borders would have been sealed on 09/12/2001. We've had multiple reports about hastily abandoned prayer rugs and korans being found, so we know moslem illegals are sneaking over the TX-MX border, and in large numbers, and the Chinese as well-thousands of OTMs since 09/11/2001. The fact that the borders weren't sealed makes it very easy to believe that the WOT is exactly what the critics said even back in 09/2001 : It's a smokescreen for a power grab.

“.......some of them terrorists who want to kill large numbers of Americans.....”

sadly, the only “logic” supporting this position, justifies an even more enormous tragedy than 911.....the pay-off being an even larger federal power-grab than the one following 911.

Fine rant, ETR. I’m afraid I have to agree with most of it. However, I must take exception to your reference to Cliff’s Notes, a respectable educational resource.

That it is. The Nations Flag and Sovereignty are at stake, and that’s not an overstatement in the least!

What gets me is this : NAFTA is real.We know that. The FTAA is real (anyone who doubts it, feel free to google away) -we had riots over this thing in Miami in 11/2003. The FTAA was rejected by the proposed members (the nations of central and South America), but it’s only on the back burner-it’s still desired by DC. So, NAFTA exists, the FTAA exists-but somehow, the North American Union is nothing more than a tinfoil conspiracy. Riiiight. Is it so hard to believe that, whatever short term reasons (cheap labor, mass voters) there are for amnesty, there IS a long term reason, and it is more sinister : The dissolution of US sovereignty into a NAU that (they hope) will someday encompass the entire western hemisphere?
