Going Down with the Ship(Michael Reagan & the GOP)
Human Events Online ^ | 06/15/2007 | Michael Reagan

Posted on 06/16/2007 6:34:45 AM PDT by kellynla

The S.S. GOP is sinking fast, and it looks like Skipper Bush is going down with his ship. That’s only fair -- after all, he’s the one who torpedoed his own ship with the immigration-reform-bill warhead. Not fair is the fact that he’s taking his party down with him.

I can understand his stubbornness in sticking with this insane program that doesn’t do a damned thing to plug the leaking borders that are allowing the United States to be flooded with all manner and shapes of illegal aliens, some of them terrorists who want to kill large numbers of Americans -- he really has nothing to lose.

In less than 18 months he’ll be history -- one of those curiosities who at one moment wielded the vast powers of the presidency and the next found themselves with all the other John Q. Citizens.

That’s not true of the senators who stand on the bridge with him as the water rises up toward the quarter deck where they can either jump into the life boats and survive, or go down with the ship.

I’m amazed at how many of them appear to be choosing a watery grave. After all, it should be more than obvious that standing firm behind this monstrosity of a bill carries with it the death penalty -- it’s just plain suicidal.

He might not yet fully realize it, but Sen. John McCain has suddenly gone from being a serious candidate for the presidency to that of being a politician with no political future at all. And I can’t imagine how Senator Lindsay Graham could ever imagine that his strong advocacy of a bill that in the blink of an eye turns lawbreakers, some of the most serious kind, into instant legal immigrants could be helpful to his political future. Ditto John Kyl and the others.

If it weren’t so serious, it would leave us laughing at the spectacle we saw when the president went up to Capitol Hill Tuesday to try to revive the bill.

It wasn’t serious politics, it was a joke.

Did he really, seriously think that Harry Reid was going to be his friend and help patch the sinking GOP hull?

Here you have a president with a dismal 30-something-percent approval rating rubbing elbows with a group -- Congress -- that has a more-dismal 27 percent approval rating being led by a guy with a horrendous 19 percent approval rating. It doesn’t get more comedic than that.

These people are living in a dream world, and one that has not yet been shattered by the incredible backlash from Americans outraged to see their national sovereignty imperiled and determined to keep the bill from ever becoming law. The message is loud and clear: kill the damned thing or get ready to pack your bags and head for home because your political career is all but over.

To continue to push for passage indicates that the backers are either stupid, or arrogant and determined to impose their wills on the nation whether the people like it or not. When this bill emerged from the back room where it was crafted in secret by the likes of Teddy Kennedy, Rush Limbaugh took one look at it and renamed it the “Comprehensive Destroy the Republican Party Bill.”

No matter how many Democrat senators back the bill in a Senate they control, Republicans will take the blame for it. Unless the GOP roars back and in one voice makes it clear that their president does not speak for them on this issue, and goes all-out to kill it, 2008 is going to be a sorry time for all Republicans.

The late Sam Francis must be grinning up there in paradise as he watches the GOP prove once again that it is what he called it “the Stupid Party.”

After all, stupid is what stupid does. And when stupid defies the will of the American people, stupid goes under.

But I'm not disagreeing with you on your criticsms of Bush. I just take issue with the true political feelings of the person who authored that email you posted. I suspect shes a lib dem who has ALWAYS hated Bush for everything he stands for.

I might add that all of us, including our children and grandchildren, will suffer should you be wrong in your loyalty.

I'm never wrong ;-), and I'm not loyal to Bush.

YOU SAID...”If this were just about votes and cheap labor, both parties would win by letting this bill die . They already HAVE open borders and a de facto amnesty, so why this bill?”

First off...we may never know the real reasons why Bush does (or doesn't do) ALL the things he does (or doesn't do..like secure the border post 9-11 for example). Perhaps he doesn't know himself.

Yes they may be purely psychological, or even pathological. It may ultimately take somebody with the intellectual horsepower and professional (pre-political) expertise of a Krauthammer to someday dissect who Bush the man really is...and yes the answer may not be very pretty.

But, I can think of three base reasons for this bill:
1) It legitimizes untold numbers of illegal Latino people (plus their families now in Mexico), thus permanently changing the demographic of the country for a future leader like a George P. Bush. Once done...it will never be undone.

2) It sets up a mechanism via the guest worker program of importing millions of people AT ALL SKILL LEVELS, via large multinational JOB SHOPS and SERVICE CONTRACT COMPANIES. I guarantee you that when you buy a door or window fromm Home Depot at some point in the future, the price will already include installation via a subcontracted large service company using cheap imported labor from Mexico or Central America. At the white collar level, the engineering and Computer Science professions will virtually disappear for American workers. Already, the engineering schools have few Americans enrolled.

3) It provides TAX AMNESTY for the BUSINESSES who have employed these illegals over the years, plus immunity from future RICO lawsuits.

4) Perhaps most importantly...it tells the people of Hazelton Pa, and Lou Barletta to go pound sand. All their laws are now meaningless.

There is NO COMPARISON between today's illegal aliens and yesteryear's legal Mediterranean , Slavic, and Celtic immigrants.

My father is an Italian immigrant and this bill is an affront to him and his fellow immigrants who made countless sacrifices to follow the rule of law to become a U.S. citizen. For my father, he couldn't see his own father for 6 years during his childhood while he was waiting for citizenship. But when they got through it all they were Americans in every sense of the word. It turns out, he would have been better off jumping a fence and stealing someone's identity.

George Bush is giving a big middle finger to every person who ever immigrated to this country legally.

The problem is that this “one issue” will be enough to undo all the good he has done and then some.

My response to GWB is more measured, but the disaster the President is leading us towards is terrible:

The GOP is headed down like the Whigs

We need to start NOW organizing the American Conservative Party for 2012. We could do a trial-run on the midterm elections in 2010.

THE ENEMY WITHIN: The Mexica Movement
SEPARATISTS define the immigration debate
13 JUNE 2007 By Bridget Johnson
FR Posted on 06/13/2007 6:07:44 AM PDT by radar101

Many Americans are wary of reconquista aims voiced over the years by groups such as MEChA. But the Mexica Movement - largely composed of young people, (seen at public events) minces no words about its aims, which are broader and accompanied by more disturbing rhetoric. ‘We are slaves of the parasitic genocidal Europeans,’ states the Mexica Movement’s philosophy; another online Mexica article states about Europeans that ‘a cancer must be removed and parasites must also be removed, for the sake of your life as a healthy human being.’

According to the Mexica Movement, begun in 1993, all Western Hemisphere borders are considered European and illegal, and North America is its indigenous nation of ‘Anahuac’ of the ‘Nican Tlaca’ people.

The concept of the Aztlan homeland (territory purchased by the U.S. at the end of the Mexican-American War) is criticized for recognizing European borders. Che Guevara is even panned for being too European: ‘Che was an Argentine, European descent, not our people!’ states the Mexica Movement’s Web site. ‘We don’t need no pinche Che!’

The Mexica Movement is a Los Angeles-based nonprofit organization, well-organized and omnipresent with the slickest signs and literature at rallies, that calls Latinos who protest illegal immigration ’self haters,’ traitors and more: ‘The only rational comparison would be to the numerous Jewish Nazis who worked for Hitler and somehow rationalized sending their own brothers and sisters to concentration camps, and in some cases personally firing the ovens,’ as written on the Mexica Web site’s report of a December 2005 protest. After all, ‘individualism is treason,’ notes their philosophy statement. ‘Where’s your anger and your confrontation of this occupation and ongoing colonization? … But we care more about 6 million Jews. ‘… Participation in liberation is not a choice, it is an obligation. … We need a new generation of warriors.’

Liberation, they claim, will be aided by demographic shifts. ‘We were only 4% in the 1970 census. We were 14% in the 2000 census. We are projected to be 25% in 2020. We are projected to be over 50% of the population of the “Western USA” in 2050. We will easily be the majority of the population of the “USA” in 2100. We’ve got to be prepared for liberation then by getting knowledge now.’…”

Dyno-mite article.

Which was the point I tried to make on another thread.

These stupid democrats (slightly smarter than the completely clueless Stupid Party), may also be the victims of this Latino nationalist movement....they may find that the emergence of a Latino Socialist Nationalist party will eventually (20,30 years down the road) virtually eliminate the Democrat Party as well.

Its called the Law of Unintended Consequences you too clever by half political nitwits in DC!!

This is not over yet. Bush refuses to give up this easily. It's his stubborn character. As I predicted he would try to resurrect it and call it something else. We have to keep our guard up. We need to keep the pressure up. We have no choice but to fight. The oligarchy wants cheap labor and a destruction of the middle class and the millionaire democrats want votes they can count on. A marriage made in HELL.

STAGE TWO is to go after the people who hire illegals. Start giving them fines and arresting them. Just catch ten or 100 of them on the nightly news. The magnet will dry up and most of the 12 million will go home by themselves.

As an addendum, we should anonymously call the IRS, people working "off the books" means taxes ain't being paid. Make anonymous fliers and hang them around the neighborhood, name names. It's time to embarrass these bustards, whether they give to the GOP or Rats, we don't need them.

CALL! CALL! CALL! CALL! AND KEEP CALLING TILL THE LINES FRY!

WRITE! WRITE! WRITE! WRITE! TILL YOU RUN OUT OF INK IN YOUR PEN!

Bombard the Democrats as well, especially the ones that ran on an anti illegal immigration plank and the ones in marginal districts who could be vulnerable. keep pounding on them. This is a bipartisan issue not a Conservative or Liberal issue BUT AN AMERICAN issue.

STOP AMNESTY NOW!! WE CAN DO IT!!

The best way to stop Shamnesty

Meet with Senators Sessions, Coburn, DeMint, Vitter, Inhofe and Cornyn; let Rep Sensenbrenner, Rep Steve King, Rep Duncan Hunter and Rep Lamar Smith join them; and instead of talking, do some listening.

EXCELLENT!

” I have long thought that the serious slide toward communism in S. America is the President’s #1 reason for this bill.

If so, there are some good reasons for its passage that the rank and file in the US will never understand.”

That’s one of the dumbest serious-sounding things I’ve read on FR in a long time.

The fact is that illegal immigration is propping up corrupt and failed economy in Mexico. Socialism would be wiped out in Mexico if they were prevented from exporting poverty to us and were *forced* to fix their own economy!

The truth is the opposite of what you say.

1) Illegal immigration is providing a safety valve to keep Mexico from slipping into Communist revolution.

It couldn't be further from the truth. The "free traders" like the president don't fear communism, they embrace it as a source of slave labor for multinational corporations.

Illegal immigration keeps Mr. Bush's friends in power, and it loots our domestic economy so that Mexico has an ample budget for building its infrastructure at the expense of American citizens. Illegal immigration is a tool for the internationalists to loot economies and control global production. Communism in Mexico, if the internationalists thought it would increase profits, would be welcomed.
