The S.S. GOP is sinking fast, and it looks like Skipper Bush is going down with his ship. Thats only fair -- after all, hes the one who torpedoed his own ship with the immigration-reform-bill warhead. Not fair is the fact that hes taking his party down with him.
I can understand his stubbornness in sticking with this insane program that doesnt do a damned thing to plug the leaking borders that are allowing the United States to be flooded with all manner and shapes of illegal aliens, some of them terrorists who want to kill large numbers of Americans -- he really has nothing to lose.
In less than 18 months hell be history -- one of those curiosities who at one moment wielded the vast powers of the presidency and the next found themselves with all the other John Q. Citizens.
Thats not true of the senators who stand on the bridge with him as the water rises up toward the quarter deck where they can either jump into the life boats and survive, or go down with the ship.
Im amazed at how many of them appear to be choosing a watery grave. After all, it should be more than obvious that standing firm behind this monstrosity of a bill carries with it the death penalty -- its just plain suicidal.
He might not yet fully realize it, but Sen. John McCain has suddenly gone from being a serious candidate for the presidency to that of being a politician with no political future at all. And I cant imagine how Senator Lindsay Graham could ever imagine that his strong advocacy of a bill that in the blink of an eye turns lawbreakers, some of the most serious kind, into instant legal immigrants could be helpful to his political future. Ditto John Kyl and the others.
If it werent so serious, it would leave us laughing at the spectacle we saw when the president went up to Capitol Hill Tuesday to try to revive the bill.
It wasnt serious politics, it was a joke.
Did he really, seriously think that Harry Reid was going to be his friend and help patch the sinking GOP hull?
Here you have a president with a dismal 30-something-percent approval rating rubbing elbows with a group -- Congress -- that has a more-dismal 27 percent approval rating being led by a guy with a horrendous 19 percent approval rating. It doesnt get more comedic than that.
These people are living in a dream world, and one that has not yet been shattered by the incredible backlash from Americans outraged to see their national sovereignty imperiled and determined to keep the bill from ever becoming law. The message is loud and clear: kill the damned thing or get ready to pack your bags and head for home because your political career is all but over.
To continue to push for passage indicates that the backers are either stupid, or arrogant and determined to impose their wills on the nation whether the people like it or not. When this bill emerged from the back room where it was crafted in secret by the likes of Teddy Kennedy, Rush Limbaugh took one look at it and renamed it the Comprehensive Destroy the Republican Party Bill.
No matter how many Democrat senators back the bill in a Senate they control, Republicans will take the blame for it. Unless the GOP roars back and in one voice makes it clear that their president does not speak for them on this issue, and goes all-out to kill it, 2008 is going to be a sorry time for all Republicans.
The late Sam Francis must be grinning up there in paradise as he watches the GOP prove once again that it is what he called it the Stupid Party.
After all, stupid is what stupid does. And when stupid defies the will of the American people, stupid goes under.
I could have written that letter. Right down to changing my party registrtaion from Republican to Independent, a year ago. And I voted Republican for 35 years.
Two weeks ago, I gave up on President Bush.
This immigration issue is the issue of our time. The War on Terror is a hopeless exercise if we don’t control the southern border. Gaining 20,000 new illegals a week is criiminal in my book. After 9/11/2001, it is insanity.
Lowbridge, the mask if off for President Bush. Everything in this letter is true, in my opinion.
For a Conservative like me to think the same way, shows how far President Bush has sunk.
You and I have been on FR almost the same amount of time.
What I have seen transpire in Washington these last few weeks was worst than how the American Revolution started. These politicians are hell bent on destroying my country, and the work I’ve done to give my loved ones a secure financial future.
And I’m not about to allow that without a fight.
There’s an old saying: If the shoe fits, wear it. And President Bush just found a new shoe. And it fits perfectly.

Yeah sure! you believe this? Have another glass of Kool Aide!
Rather, it's South America which is taking a serious slide left. Firming up Mexico to be more capitalist by integrating it more with US culture (along with the added benefit of mitigating Mexico's communists' influence) will ensure a bulwark between us and Chavez' poisonous influence.
I'm trying to recall several well known freepers, that just a couple of years ago were trying to convince everyone that this open border invasion was a not a big priority with the American people.
Did these people have an agenda or what?
As I recall, some of them were out in force on Nov 7-8 2006, trying to prove that Republicans who were hard line against illegal immigration were the ones that lost, which proves that “the issue is a low priority for the voters”. Find those post election ‘what went wrong’ threads and you’ll have your names .
Cheney has not been heard from on this, has he? All we get is flaky sh*t from Tony Snow on Laura Ingraham's program and an FR posting from some White House flunkie. Very interesting, as Cheney is the big gun the administration usually wheels out when it needs to rally the base. I bet he's totally disgusted, and keeping silence is the best he can do.
It probably made him feel better to write it and don't worry, the president will never see it anyway.
Well, it’s nice he got his feelings out on paper, but he would’ve been better off leaving them in his journal than spreading them around the country.
The president is the least of the ones I’m worried will read it. The way this type of mindless ranting has taken over FR is what is the real travesty. There are way too many here who are willing to take up the latest negative attitude, whoever or whatever it is directed at doesn’t seem to matter, even if it’s someone they formerly supported, like President Bush and Tony Snow.
These Freepers are really Fair Weather Friends.
Calling on every single Senator in DC along with members of the Administration that is trying to ram this bill down our throats. I’m also doing this very respectably. I’m on my third round. Sorry, but I simply don’t agree with you about the President. As for calling me a pessimist, I hope one day you’ll be pursuaded to switch that around to patriot. Sir or Ma’am, I dearly love my country.
I must disagree with you. President Bush did start the WOT, but allowed a government under Sharia law to be established in Iraq. Bad Move!
To allow those who are not acculturated Americans to vote is to destroy America as we know it. Mexico is a culture very differenct to and incompatable with our culture.
FOr example, Mexicans have never been safe in person or property. That’s why they want iron bars on all openings of their homes - they assume assume others will steal from them if they can.
Mexicans, adn others can work here, but no benefits, and no citizenship or voting.
That’s what they do to us. Time to realize that and deal with the Mexican and other foreign workers in a manner that best benefits America.
As an election inspector you state that you didn’t see any major voter fraud. I suggest you take yourself to San Antonio, Texas, where the Dummies drive the illegals to the polls. My mother worked down there and after one specific election, the ground was littered with little slips of white paper “showing” people who could not speak English, “HOW TO VOTE.” Do I need to tell you which party they were told to vote FOR? Here in California, we have people who own two, three, four houses; voting in all locations. If you think they’re voting Republican, think again. The Dummies were out in the last election (Al Gore, the rightful winner, yeah right) going into dementia units and filling out the voting forms for these people. A friend of mine tried to report the fraud and “no one” cared to take a report. I know that I’ve digressed, but telling me that you didn’t find voter fraud sent me over the top.
As for how far back we go, I graduated high school before you were born.
Bump the article.
I’d bump the poster too, but since it told a Brit on another thread who disagreed with it to mind it’s own business, I’m just bumping the article.
“You are the worst President in my living memories”
This person must have a VERY short memory if they can;t remember Jimmmah the Peanut Man!
Seriously, did he ever have any marbles to begin with??
That job did not make me a federal employee. I watched the local machines (for all elections, both local and federal).
I know that Ive digressed, but telling me that you didnt find voter fraud sent me over the top.
Oh for crying out loud. I DIDN'T find voter fraud at the polling place where I worked. And I worked only one polling place (in Brooklyn, NY). My jurisdiction didnt extend outside that polling place. And as a long time freeper, I'm perfectly aware of all the actual voter fraud that does go on nationwide. I've posted, or taken part in, many a thread about voter fraud.
As for how far back we go, I graduated high school before you were born.
They invented schools back then? ;-)
Well, Maureen once told us that Michael was nuts. She was the really savvy one among the kids. She’s in Heaven now with her Dad.
But without using the word "corporatist" (I hope). :-)

again, like I said before, sure the writer of the email peppered the email with things you and I can agree with. Things that sound very true to us, however, she slipped up by also using words and phrases commonly used by dems posing as Republicans. Apparently she just couldnt help herself.
Two weeks ago, I gave up on President Bush.
I gave up on him a little more longer before that.

No argument. Completely agree.

Most of it is true. The part about the author being a former conservative and/or republican isnt. On MANY , many lib dem sites, the libs are all besides themselves with glee about how Bush's support is dropping like a rock, practically overnight, especially over this immigration issue. This has resulted in many liberal trolls making calls, sending emails, posting anonymously on websites, pretending to have been lifelong republicans in the hopes that this masquerade will help defeat Bush alot more faster. I do NOT mind my fellow Republicans and/or conservatives criticizing Bush, trying to defeat him, etc. I just cant stand to watch lib dems posing as republicans, just as bad, my fellow freepers falling for one of those phonies.
For a Conservative like me to think the same way, shows how far President Bush has sunk.
I've thought the same about Bush, minus the part about leaving the party as a result of his actions.
Your snide humor does you honor.
