The S.S. GOP is sinking fast, and it looks like Skipper Bush is going down with his ship. Thats only fair -- after all, hes the one who torpedoed his own ship with the immigration-reform-bill warhead. Not fair is the fact that hes taking his party down with him.
I can understand his stubbornness in sticking with this insane program that doesnt do a damned thing to plug the leaking borders that are allowing the United States to be flooded with all manner and shapes of illegal aliens, some of them terrorists who want to kill large numbers of Americans -- he really has nothing to lose.
In less than 18 months hell be history -- one of those curiosities who at one moment wielded the vast powers of the presidency and the next found themselves with all the other John Q. Citizens.
Thats not true of the senators who stand on the bridge with him as the water rises up toward the quarter deck where they can either jump into the life boats and survive, or go down with the ship.
Im amazed at how many of them appear to be choosing a watery grave. After all, it should be more than obvious that standing firm behind this monstrosity of a bill carries with it the death penalty -- its just plain suicidal.
He might not yet fully realize it, but Sen. John McCain has suddenly gone from being a serious candidate for the presidency to that of being a politician with no political future at all. And I cant imagine how Senator Lindsay Graham could ever imagine that his strong advocacy of a bill that in the blink of an eye turns lawbreakers, some of the most serious kind, into instant legal immigrants could be helpful to his political future. Ditto John Kyl and the others.
If it werent so serious, it would leave us laughing at the spectacle we saw when the president went up to Capitol Hill Tuesday to try to revive the bill.
It wasnt serious politics, it was a joke.
Did he really, seriously think that Harry Reid was going to be his friend and help patch the sinking GOP hull?
Here you have a president with a dismal 30-something-percent approval rating rubbing elbows with a group -- Congress -- that has a more-dismal 27 percent approval rating being led by a guy with a horrendous 19 percent approval rating. It doesnt get more comedic than that.
These people are living in a dream world, and one that has not yet been shattered by the incredible backlash from Americans outraged to see their national sovereignty imperiled and determined to keep the bill from ever becoming law. The message is loud and clear: kill the damned thing or get ready to pack your bags and head for home because your political career is all but over.
To continue to push for passage indicates that the backers are either stupid, or arrogant and determined to impose their wills on the nation whether the people like it or not. When this bill emerged from the back room where it was crafted in secret by the likes of Teddy Kennedy, Rush Limbaugh took one look at it and renamed it the Comprehensive Destroy the Republican Party Bill.
No matter how many Democrat senators back the bill in a Senate they control, Republicans will take the blame for it. Unless the GOP roars back and in one voice makes it clear that their president does not speak for them on this issue, and goes all-out to kill it, 2008 is going to be a sorry time for all Republicans.
The late Sam Francis must be grinning up there in paradise as he watches the GOP prove once again that it is what he called it the Stupid Party.
After all, stupid is what stupid does. And when stupid defies the will of the American people, stupid goes under.
Um, I’d have to say that your claims about him are vastly untrue. He is NOT allowing unfettered control of borders, etc., nor has the protection of the unborn vanished because of him, to name a couple of the many things you falsely claimed about him.
If you can’t figgure out what to do with it computer wise. And I can’t help you there. I do know a good place you can stick it tho. Trent Lott, Lyndsay Graham and the other need to be keel hauled out of the Grand Old Party.
That’s a very touching story and quite dramatic in drumming up people’s anger.
But I don’t see the correlation between it and President Bush.
If you are not one of the FR White House plants we’ve read so much about, you sure fit the bill.
Excellent analysis - I've been saying the same exact thing. I would add one more point to your list: Bush needed a strong economy in order to focus on the WoT & eliminate a second front against the MSM.
The easiest way to do that was open up the border in order to achieve both low inflation (wage deflation) & economic growth (12-20m extra bodies creates demand across the entire spectrum).
But now it's nearing the time where we need to settle up. The Mexican ruling elite has been getting quite a free ride at our expense. If we began repatriating "undocumented Americans", the rulers' assets would be in the hands of a central commissariat within a year.
At that point, we'll have to go down there and occupy the danged place anyway, so why don't we just begin the process of negotiations & peaceful transition beforehand?
The upside, given the imposition of US style private property protections & financial markets, would be an explosion of investment the world has never seen. We'd see 50-100m Americans heading south-of-the-border seeking their own ocean front haciendas for a fraction of the price of existing condos in Cleveland.
“But I dont see the correlation between it and President Bush.”
Ok.
It is very obvious that most of our federal government is beholden to someone other than the people of the United States of America. What they are all pushing is none other than Slavery Lite, and apparently the party who is supposed to care for the poor is now supporting indentured servitude in order to pander for eventual votes, while casting the true American poor into the gutter. The party who is supposed to care for American traditions has cast back to one tradition we abhor, slavery, and remembering how great it was for the plantations’ economies, singing “Hurrah, caste! Middle class be damned!”
Mr. Benjamin Franklin, who worried so long ago if we would be able to “keep” our republic, is about to rise from the grave to say “I told you so.” I am saddened for the founders than we did not even make 300 years before being fooled by petty kings and dukes into giving away the precious sovereignty and freedom so many fought and died for.
So what would you do?
They keep telling us this is NOT an amnesty.....it seems they don't read the dictionary..if it looks, quacks and walks like a duck, it's a dirty, ugly pig of an amnesty bill.
am·nes·ty noun 1. a general pardon for offenses, esp. political offenses, against a government, often granted before any trial or conviction.
2. Law. an act of forgiveness for past offenses, esp. to a class of persons as a whole.
3. a forgetting or overlooking of any past offense. verb (used with object) 4. to grant amnesty to; pardon.
I like what someone said about the two parties : They’re both wings of the same evil bird of prey, and the prey is the American citizenry.
Not sure about its origin, but I know Patrick J. Buchanan, certified as a “nutjob” by many FR posters had so much of this stuff figured out a long time ago
He said that line about Repubs and Dems being two wings on the same bird of prey
“Thats not true of the senators who stand on the bridge with him ... Im amazed at how many of them appear to be choosing a watery grave ... its just plain suicidal.”
I expect these senators don’t need to care about their political futures. When they’re not re-elected, they might be laughing all the way to the bank (in Grand Cayman) to collect the filthy lucre deposited for them by various corporations, the WSJ, etc.
For weeks nothing made sense, i.e., why they’re all so eager to kill America. Then I remembered what Rush used to say when things didn’t make sense: “Follow the money.” If true, the next problem is to learn who’s supplying the money and then have nothing to do with those companies — whether they’re American companies or not.
IF money is the issue, then they’re pimping out their children’s and grandchildren’s futures. Sure, their grand-daughters might inherit some ill-gotten cash from Grandpa, but will they be able to hide it in the pockets of their burqas? Will they be forced by their husbands to go to Dr. Mohammad for the ever-popular clitorectomies?
Senators are only looking at the Mexican connection with this amnesty bill. The terrorists will benefit no less than the Mexicans. Tony Snow can spin his little heart out and tell us how GREAT this will be but, as Laura Ingraham said, “NOBODY BELIEVES YOU!”
You are the worst President in my living memories and I go all the way back to Harry Truman
You certainly are no Conservative. I no longer believe you are a patriot and I sincerely doubt you are even a Christian.
corporatist poseur
corporatist agenda
I have been a conservative since 1964 when I supported Goldwater
I used to be a Republican, until you came along. Now I am a registered Independent.
The person who wrote that email is just another left wing liberal democrat pretending to be/have been a conservative republican.
I’m sorry, but I have a hard time excusing those who tell lies about the president of the United States, because they don’t like a few things he’s done.
ping
I would and do pray for him and for all our government leaders. President Bush seeks the Lord’s guidance, and I’m grateful for that. My prayer is that he will always heed that guidance.
That’s fair enough. Please continue to pray for him.
Do you have a ping list for the rabid Bush haters?
Thanks
I think they may have a copy over at DU. ;-)
