Michael Moore advocates universal health care, but what does he think about free movies?
The controversial filmmaker will have to deal with that question after a report in Advertising Age that "Sicko," his new documentary on the failings of the U.S. health care system, has been pirated and is widely available for free downloading on the Web.
An Ad Age reporter said he was able to download and watch the film, which won't officially be released for two weeks, "with ease" last night.
Moore, who had worried that the U.S. government might try to suppress "Sicko" because of an allegedly unauthorized trip he took to Cuba, now faces "every film maker's worst marketing nightmare
how to persuade people to go to the theater to see a show that's available free on the Internet."

But think of all the money he’ll save by not having to market and advertise his product!

I hope this cuts his revenue catastrophically.

I thought he went to a fat farm to get into shape after the 2004 Democrat loss?
I saw him on some show, maybe just a clip, like Letterman or something, and he was clean shaven and his hair was combed!

The activist, author and director told the Sunday Herald that, as long as pirated copies of his film were not being sold, he had no problem with it being downloaded. "I don't agree with the copyright laws and I don't have a problem with people downloading the movie and sharing it with people as long as they're not trying to make a profit off my labour. I would oppose that," he said. "I do well enough already and I made this film because I want the world, to change. The more people who see it the better, so I'm happy this is happening." http://www.rottentomatoes.com/vine/showthread.php?t=562920

It’s a ploy. When the movie bombs at the box office they can blame the pirated copies thus allowing Moore to save face.

Isn’t pirating a Michael Moore film kinda like stealing dog s**t? I guess that I don’t quite see the attraction.

...and yet it has limited distribution on Usenet. Uploaded to only two groups... tisk, tisk. Perhaps a “socially aware” pirate might sink it into yEnc.

Don't think of it as pirated, Mikey, think of it as socialized film release.
