INHOFE ANNOUNCES ONLINE PETITION FOR AMERICANS TO SUPPORT BORDER SECURITY AND NO-AMNESTY IMMIGRATION REFORM
(JUNE 15, 2007) - U.S. Senator James Inhofe (R-Okla.) today announced Secure Borders Now (www.SecureBordersNow.com), a new website for Americans to urge the Senate to consider immigration reform that focuses on enforcing existing border security laws and opposition to amnesty for millions of illegal immigrants.
Unfortunately it appears many in the Senate remain deaf to the voices of the American people, as yet another backroom deal has emerged designed to revive the fatally flawed immigration bill and its immediate path to amnesty. The Secure Borders Now petition gives Americans an opportunity to voice their opposition. I hope my constituents and citizens from all across our country will take action, sign the petition and show how many Americans are strongly opposed to this bill.
Despite the promise of increased funding for border security and additional votes on a handful of amendments, the proposed legislation will continue to shortcut the current naturalization process and grant amnesty to 12 to 20 million illegal immigrants currently in our country. That is a trade off that I simply cannot support.
The first step in any significant immigration legislation must be securing our borders and enforcing existing laws. It is unconscionable to make border security conditional on the guarantee of amnesty. Even with the promise of additional funding for border security, the Senate bill focuses far too much on controversial and irresponsible programs such as the Z-visa (which I voted to eliminate), and far too little on ensuring that our borders are no longer porous.
I have stated from the outset of this immigration debate that I will vehemently oppose any legislation that guarantees amnesty for illegal immigrants, unfairly burdens taxpayers or fails to secure our borders.
It is time that we deal with real immigration reform beginning with border security. This is the best way to restore trust with the American people and facilitate future improvement of our immigration policy.
On Tuesday, Senator Inhofe joined eight Senators in writing a letter to President Bush urging him to fulfill the border security provisions listed in the Senate immigration bill whether the legislation passes or not. Each border security trigger in the bill can be implemented under current law without any need for new legislation from Congress.
A Rasmussen Reports national phone survey conducted June 11 and 12, found that only 20 percent of voters wanted Congress to try and pass the Senate bill that failed last week. Sixty-nine percent favored an approach that focused exclusively on securing the border and reducing illegal immigration.

Done,
Is there a total number of signers on there? I may have missed it.
If there is one Senator that will carry out his promises and not back down, it is Sen Jim Inhofe who has a spine of steel.
Karl Rove will never be able to arm twist Sen Inhofe or threaten not to help fund his campaign — Oklahomans will be glad to fund our Senator and tell Rove with his behind the scenes arm twisting where he can go.
Imagine that! Hey-whatever it takes to kill this flawed bill..
I called and let my senators know today that I will NOT forget if they vote for this immigration sham. They WILL be out next election. There are too many people mad about this.
I didn’t pay attention between signing and getting this thread up to the count of petitioners but knowing his office, I would say they would release the number.
Jeff Sessions is also as solid as they come.
Let’s do it!!

Could you give a cite for the Press Release that contains the following language:

It is not on the Senate Press Release that you linked above and I would like to have a link to it to post on my website.
Thanks!

Done. Thank you for the link.
Done.
Thanks... and signed!
I love Sessions and he is out in front on this as well! Might as well post Elizabeth Dole’s email I got last night again and get it all on one thread who we know are standing tall — from what I am hearing Rove is arm twisting — looks Senators against this are going to have to fund their own campaigns!
Dear friend,
When it comes to amnesty for illegal aliens, Ive never paused, hesitated or stammered I say Im flat out opposed to it!
I opposed amnesty when I ran for the U.S. Senate in 2002. I fought to defeat the amnesty bill that passed the Senate in 2006. I fought tooth and nail to take down the amnesty bill that ultimately failed on Thursday.
In fact, I cast the deciding procedural vote Wednesday night that ultimately broke up the coalition of Senators who were trying to ram this bill through the Senate.
The immigration problem indeed raises many tough questions and I am certain that the bill Harry Reid was finally forced to pull off the Senate floor Thursday night is NOT the answer.
This legislation put the cart ahead of the horse. It rushed to legalize millions of illegal aliens that is NOT the urgent matter at hand. We must deal with the real crisis and first focus on securing our borders and enforcing our laws. We are a nation of laws its time we act like it!
Up to a million illegal aliens cross the porous southern border each year.
No immigration reform legislation will succeed not even good reform (which the Kennedy bill was NOT) unless our borders are secure.
For decades, Americans have been promised a secure border, but it hasnt happened. Consider the recent legislation that authorized 700 miles of fencing astoundingly, just TWO miles have been constructed!
Americans are rightly cynical about any promises to secure the border.
My parameters are simple: One, we must secure the border. Two, we must enforce the laws already on the books and empower law enforcement officials to do their jobs enforcing them. Then and only then we can take up immigration reform.
I must be honest with you, many of my colleagues in Congress disagree with me. And President Bush disagrees with me.
The Democrats have promised to soon bring this bad bill back to the Senate floor, and the Democrats are planning a major political assault on me for my opposition. They will use this to try to hurt me in the upcoming election.
Be assured, I will stand firmly against this bill. I dont care what the political pundits, the media, or the liberals say or think because I reject the notion that granting amnesty to millions of illegal aliens will solve our countrys out of control immigration problem. I can wage this fight as long as I know you are standing with me.
Please let me know I can count on you:
Please use this contribution button to help my campaign fight back against the attacks that are sure to come.
Thank you so much for your help and support and thank you for your commitment to a safer, more prosperous America.
Sincerely:
Elizabeth Dole
U. S. Senator
Thank you — I was just ready to ping you to ping your list!
Done! And added a ..somewhat...polite yet forceful message.

No problem. I was asking because a lot of these online petitions show the total and other signers after you have signed.
Looking forward to hearing a total next week.
Send me an email at skcalien@aol.com and I will forward you the email this came from which was more detailed then the press release.

PKM,
I’m very proud of the strong stand my Senators, Dole and Burr, have made against illegal immigration and amnesty. I’m especially happy, and a little surprised to be honest, with Senator Dole. I can also assure you that my future employer, Congresswoman Foxx, is also adamently opposed to any amnesty.
