Immigration Bill Will Return to Senate
Wall Street Journal ^ | 15 June 2007 | David Rogers

Posted on 06/14/2007 10:04:51 PM PDT by Racehorse

In a terse statement last evening, Majority Leader Harry Reid (D., Nev.) announced the bill will be called up again next week, when the Senate expects to have completed action on an energy bill. Officials said they hoped this would allow lawmakers to vote on the immigration overhaul by the July 4 recess.

Before the decision, Democratic and Republican supporters agreed to a set of about 22 amendments, which will frame the remaining debate and refine issues already in the bill. The precise wording of the amendments wasn't released. Mr. Reid is betting that enough senators will be satisfied that their points of view have been expressed that they will be willing to break any remaining filibuster attempt by conservatives.

Before the decision, Democratic and Republican supporters agreed to a set of about 22 amendments, which will frame the remaining debate. Mr. Reid is betting that enough senators will then be willing to break any remaining filibuster attempt by conservatives.

No specific promises have been made by the Republican leadership, but Minority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky joined with Mr. Reid in making the announcement and meeting with supporters prior to its release.

There aren't enough conservatives in the Senate to thwart this but its DOA in the House. No House GOP member is going to vote for this bill. Let em play their games.

Soros is in no position to do anything unless politicians go along with him. Let the blame rest where it really belongs.

>> Instead of obsessing over this one issue, conservatives should...<<

If you think the destruction of the United States is just “one issue” which shouldn’t be obsessed over, you are a simple-minded individual indeed.

And you are what’s wrong with America.

No House GOP member is going to vote for this bill. Let em play their games.

Remember, Pelosi said she would only bring the bill to the floor if, and only if, Bush could guarantee the support by some magic number of Republican Representatives.

Nobody seems to be eyeballing what's going on in backrooms over in the House. Like they did last time, do you really think they'll hang tough this time? Can enough votes be bought with promises from the White House to satisfy Pelosi?

I’ll wait for the vote on the Senate floor. Then I’ll blame any Senator who votes to pass this bill. 86% of Democrat Senators voted to pass this Amnesty bill. Do you blame them at all?

Meanwhile I am calling congress, blogging all over the internet to stop this bill.

.... which Bush will dutifully try to line up.

They are playing Bush like a violin. They get a liberal bill and the GOP is blamed for passing the monstrosity.

win/win.

If they are playing Bush like a violin, it is because he wants to play the role. He wants this bill more than anything in his Presidency. IMO, the destruction of the GOP and marginalization of conservatives in US political discourse is a price he is willing to pay.

Of course I do. But it bothers me when people who go along with the Dems are supposed to be on our side. Pay close attention to this. You may not like what you see.

OK, you're wrong. The globalist advocacy of what is effectively unlimited immigration isn't treason at all. Not at all.

Treason is the one crime defined in the Constitution. Article III, Section 3 as I recall. The actions of Bush, Kyl, Kennedy, Salazar, Martinez and so forth are indeed criminal...but they are not treasonous, by Constitutional definition.

They are, however, guilty of crimes in violation of Article IV, Section 4, and the numerous sections of the U.S.C. pertinent thereto.

Good luck on finding a prosecutor, though. (And, just btw, it's ''free rein'', not ''free reign''. Ssssshhh, don't tell anyone.)

;-(

Never give up....Keep the faith....Keep calling...And take names.....Withhold Money to any politician who pushes Amnesty....

One question: I hope this doensn’t get passed before Fred Thompson gets in the race.

Does anyone know if Fred is actively speaking out against Amnesty this week? Any articles? Thanks

We had amnesty once and borders were still open, now they want us to do it again. Both parties are in this together. Hillary is scheduled to carry the baton, if people do not stop talking Republican vs Democrat then we just deserve the Mexican population. BOTH parties are in this together and have been since Regan, I refuse to get into any other Repub/Democrat discussions and have made it clear, to any idiot that continue to fall in line.

Bush Jr lost his chance for the high road when he did nothing for our border guards that were sent to prison because they did their job. He is the continuance of this problem and it equates to an embezzler being in charge of payroll because he has another idea. His and the Congress ideas have gotten this country in this mess and they have lost the right to fix their problem. THE ONLY THING I AGREE TO IS “FIX” THE FENCE and stop illegal immigration. We will not talk about legalization until this is COMPLETE. period, end of sentence.

Anyone who applies logic and makes the move to open their eyes will see what is happening. Trust that god will bring everything to light that is hidden, He’s doing his part and those around us are not. These mental giants are going to one day realize how minimized they have become.

Understand the difference of a president and a CEO. The president implements the vision of the CEO. I believe that Bush Sr has been the CEO since Regan. Evaluate the relationship between Bush Sr and Bill Clinton and you will start to see how confident they are. Regan, Regan, Bush Sr, Bill Clinton, Bill Clinton, Shrub, Shrub... now it’s Hillarious’s turn. BOTH parties want a Hillary baton toss and if that cannot work they will install martial law and no elections. People better unite on one platform, a constitutional one before the final bell rings.

NO CONFIDENCE

Build the fence.

We don’t need a “new” immigration bill.

We’ve already had several. Each was “new” at the time.

We are STILL waiting for the (now old) ones to be enforced!

Conservative will just have to accept the fact that there will be millions of new Americans.

NO NO NO!!!

I for one flatly refuse to just roll over for some politicans who are being paid off by big businesses who're lusting for more cheap 'legalized' labor at my expense NOR for the Democraptic leadership who stands to gain LIFETIME democrap hold on the USA to push their evil Sodom & Gommorah agandas.

The Illegals are over here today should all be shipped out and its only the lack of political willpower that stands in the way to ship them back out!!

We've spend BILLIONS and sent hundreds of thousands of our best military troops over there to rebuild & stabilize IRAQ, but to protect our own borders we've gotten cold feet?

Build the damm fence (not a VIRTUAL ONE that can be taken out by a well aimed stone or bullet) and put manpower on the ground to stop the hordes of illegals.

Remember, for every illegal coming into America and sucking money out of the system (Education, Welfare, Medical Care, etc) they are taking from the American who are here by birth of by legal naturalization!!!

If they will not enforce existing law why should we believe they will enforce new laws? We are getting the bum rush here.
