There I was, sitting peacefully in the backyard, minding my own business when all of a sudden, a hummingbird decends and hovers 18 inches from my face.

We looked each other in the eye for a few seconds, then he/she left.

It left me wondering... did it appear to this hummer that with the sun shining on these blonde locks, he/she found a giant flower bearing lots of nectar? I think not.

I’ll go with the assumption that he/she found a blooming idiot.

Shadow Haiku





From deep Shadows I
separate. Stretching darkness
like a silent Skate

Paws touching the Floor
void of noise. Careful to miss
The Little One's toys

Wooden Blocks scattered
across the place. Make nice step
ladders up to Space

Four paws balanced
on a Block. Strong muscles flex
before the shock

Of being between
the soft Floor and velvety
Space. Soaring with grace

Claws slide out as Up
I go. Arms and legs stretching
I feel cool Air flow

Soaring above the
seats of The Big Long Chair. I
try to land with care

Gravity takes charge
as my body tucks. Hoping
for a little luck

It's over in a
flash! A Victory Lap and
to the Floor I dash

Balancing gently
Poised towards the Sky. I'm ready
for another try!
