The FReeper Canteen Crew sadly announces the passing of Mr. Tonkin. (68-69TonkinGulfYachtClub).
If you would like to leave a message for his family, please direct them to amom.
Also, we ask that you send prayers to amom, his son Matthew, family, and friends.
We love you, Mr. Tonkin. Say 'hello' to Texas Cowboy for all of us.
You're missed and will never be forgotten.
We hope to make this an online memorial book for his family.
Details will be provided later regarding funeral services.
My pleasure.....he did love his “work”.
THE FINAL INSPECTION
The soldier stood and faced his God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining,
Just as brightly as his brass.
“Step forward now, you soldier,
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My Church have you been true?”
The soldier squared his shoulders and said,
“No, Lord, I guess I ain’t.
Because those of us who carry guns,
Can’t always be a saint.
I’ve had to work most Sundays,
And at times my talk was tough.
And sometimes I’ve been violent,
Because the world is awfully rough.
But, I never took a penny,
That wasn’t mine to keep...
Though I worked a lot of overtime,
When the bills got just too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God, forgive me,
I’ve wept unmanly tears.
I know I don’t deserve a place,
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around,
Except to calm their fears.
If you’ve a place for me here, Lord,
It needn’t be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don’t, I’ll understand.”
There was a silence all around the throne,
Where the saints had often trod.
As the soldier waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.
“Step forward now, you soldier,
You’ve borne your burdens well.
Walk peacefully on Heaven’s streets,
You’ve done your time in Hell.”
Author unknown.
May the best remain ahead for Tonk. May a healing spirit remain ahead for his family.
Thank you for your kind words.
You are welcome. Well done is well missed.
Thanks for telling us- I had thought about Tonk recently, and wondered how he was.
Blessings to you, and God’s peace during this time.
As we grieve another true FReeper and Man let us take time to know that as the world goes on around us at least 1,000 people have their world standing still.
May God Rest Your Soul Tonk.
Have Mercy on us that are left to live in your shadow.

Please accept our family’s condolences.
When I told Mrsdd that Brian passed away, sadness gripped her, but she then offered, “I’m glad we stopped in Bandon to meet him last summer.”
Those were comforting words for me after reading the news.
I was blessed that day and will always remember our lunch together.
He has a touch of TC in his look for sure.
Just Dang.
Well another bro in Heaven for us to have as a mentor/hero here on earth.
Persevere, Perservere, Perservere.
God Bless his family at this time.
Ditto my sentiments.
However I refuse to let the world turn......
I insist on time for losing loved ones.
Tonk was well respected here and I have other hero’s never got to know Tonk other than he was my nieghbor to the south here on the Oregon Coast.
I was proud of the choices he made when he chose his medical therapy.
Heck we have lost and nearly lost so many dear folks on/off the internet that it is a blessing that friends from decades ago have begun to enjoy each other again.
We were young Christian parents now we are at the Sr. age and nothing said but we are hanging out and talking/loving in such a more mature way then we were young lassies.
Time is a gift in that we get wisdom and grace but with blessings comes stark reality of what is coming and upon our trust and faith with hope we live. OP
He was indeed a true FReeper and Man. He is missed.
Dumb ????
Does the Oregon Coast Guard know yet?
They are literally my neighbors.
I am Newport, Depoe Bay takes calls.
I wonder if they need to be contacted so as to the Flag on the pole....I don’t know the rules.
I don’t want to step out of bounds....just hoping word is out to Our Oregon Coast Stations.
R.I.P. Tonk
We’ll miss you greatly. You were an inspiration to many here, including myself. I enjoyed our conversations and your enthusiasm. I wish I could have met you in person, but your memory lives on. May God hold you in the palm of his hands and bless you and give you peace.
Condolences and prayers up for Tonk’s family. May your sorrow be comforted and your pain be eased. Lord, walk with them and give them strength in their time of grief.
Amen.

Godspeed, FRiend.
Good bye Tonk............:-(
