--good that this got in there--I had turned it off in disgust before this info was broadcast--
There are so many problems with that “study” showing the Prius as less environmentally friendly than a Hummer, I’m not sure where to start....
Rush should be embarrassed to be spreading garbage like this.
But acting like an idiot has never stopped him before, so why now?
Will ElRushbo do a parody song?
“Prius de magic hybrid drove around DC.
It got 50 mi to the gallon, and drove most economicaly!”
Okay, so I have been a big proponent of the Prius because we have one and we have liked it until last Sunday.
Last Sunday, my daughters and I came back from going to the grocery store when one of my daughters said that it looked like vandals had done something to my husband’s car (the Prius).
I got out, and touched to windows to see if there was paint on it. There wasn’t, so I opened the door. Smoke started pouring out.
We immediately called 911.
The battery of the Prius caught on fire. It had been smoldering overnight. Thank God, it was not in our garage. My son’s room is right over the garage.
Anyway, the Prius is totalled. It’s still sitting in my driveway waiting for Toyota to do something about it.
The thing is my husband still wants another one because he liked the burnt one so much. I personally think he’s a bit crazy. I’ve told him that he can’t park it in the garage.
As far as the environment goes, I wonder the smoke from the Prius was horrible. I wonder how bad it was for the environment.
What’s your beef with hybrids?
LOL!
It was actually very scary. There is a whole in the back seat. You can see through to the trunk (where the battery is). It’s where one of my kids usually sits. I just keep on imagine it catching fire while one of my kids is sitting there.
I’ve been telling Prius owners about this. There isn’t anything on the web about it.
Rush might be passing around bad information on the Prius being environmentally worse than the Hummer, but you have to hand it to the caller who brought up the point about where his 15 MPG Cherokee goes once he trades it in for a Prius. Unless it is destroyed, it continues at some point out on the road.
I apologize. You just had a car fire and your car is ruined. (best I can tell)
I have an old Ford (72) that busted a power steering fluid hose and sprayed on the exhaust manifold. It caught fire real quick. I was able to put it out. To my amazement, the old car suffered no damage. (other than the cracked hose that I replaced for 24 dollars from NAPA.)
But, I did have to do a lot of clean up on the engine and engine compartment.
My old boss had a prius. His wife alays threated to have big fake “wind up key” installed on the back of it.
The car was pretty cool. very quiet.
That is not good.
Inco, as with all the rest of the mining companies as been doing environmental cleanup for thirty years now including the remediation of what was perfectly legal and acceptable for the preceding hundred years or so---
They are fun to drive, and until the fire we never had anything (except tires) replaced on it. I was sold on it until the fire.
It was a 2001 Prius, and my husband thinks that the newer models problem have the kinks worked out.
Being that I’m a mom, I worry about a new one catching on fire with my charming children in it. EEEEEK!
It will be interesting to hear what Toyota determins to be the cause.
