GOP Senate Leaders McConnell & Lott on verge of deal to bring amnesty back up for vote
Numbers USA email | June 12, 2007 | Roy Beck - Numbers USA

Posted on 06/12/2007 1:37:13 PM PDT by ruination

Friends,

Pres. Bush's meeting with Republican Senators at noon appears to be providing just the extra push that pro-amnesty leaders have wanted.

The Senate's top two Republican leaders -- McConnell (R-Ky.) and Lott (R-Miss.) -- are using this opportunity to pull 15 Republicans (of the 38 who voted against amnesty last week) back to Pres. Bush's side.

McConnell and Lott hope to get those 15 to sign off on a list of amendments they want brought up for a vote.

They hope to present that list to Democratic leader Sen. Reid (D-Nev.) by tonight!

To slow this down, please phone Republican Senators on the list below THIS MINUTE.

202-224-3121

When you think about it, the deal that Mcconnell and Lott are offering makes little sense. They are basically saying that they want the 15 Republican Senators to agree to vote for cloture in exchange for a chance to have their favorite amendments voted down.

Many of those same Senators may vote against the final bill (when it will take 50 votes to defeat it), but their promise to Bush, McConnell and Lott will be that they will vote FOR cloture (when it would take only 39 votes to defeat it).

In other words, they will vote for the amnesty in the tally where their NO vote would have the most possibility of defeating the bill.

Please call these Republicans and urge them to refuse any deal that wins their YES vote on another cloture vote.

REPUBLICANS MOST LIKELY TO SWITCH TO AMNESTY TODAY (* Senators up for re-election in 2008)

* Alexander (R-TN) Bennett (R-UT) * Cochran (R-MS) * Coleman (R-MN) * Collins (R-ME) * Cornyn (R-TX) * Craig (R-ID) * Domenici (R-NM) Gregg (R-NH) Hatch (R-UT) Hutchison (R-TX) Kyl (R-AZ) Lott (R-MS) * McConnell (R-KY) Murkowski (R-AK) * Smith (R-OR) Snow! e (R-ME) Stevens (R-AK) * Warner (R-VA)

TSnow was on CNN a few minutes ago.

Wolfie asked him whether Bush had actually read the bill. Snow’s response was that ‘he had been through it’.

lol

No one, except maybe Sen. Sessions, has actually read the whole bill. And that is the trouble. They don’t know what is actually in it and what isn’t.

But from people who are supposed to be on our side?

They're not on our side, in this case. They would prefer an electorate that will be happy to accept low wages, be dependent on the government benefits that the elites deign to provide, and be gullible and easy to push around.

Write down a point or two and be sure you make it. I find that I get overly angry when I don’t have something pretty exact memorized that I want to say.

Exactly. Voting against cloture is essential!

“For all the good it will do.”

I know how you feel. Senators are indeed hard for little people to influence. But a few probably have been influenced. Look at the list of key senators that’s somewhere on this thread. Focus on those.

The guilty knowledge that they’re doing this in utter opposition to public opinion in their party will have some effect, even if the bill passes the Senate. It can affect what happens in the House, and it might lead some senators to make up for their votes in some way. Also, those aides sometimes have the senator’s ear. The “base” becomes more real to them the more they hear from it. Effects may be indirect and subtle, but nonetheless real.

It is always better to do something rather than nothing!

When it comes to millions of illegals, most of whom are quiet, working stiffs, looking for a better life, we have to be both realistic and compassionate. They are here because our government failed to do it’s job, failed to secure our borders, and, now, sudden outrage wants to put full blame on those illegal immigrants. Our government is equally to blame for the current situation. Once the borders are secured absolutely, we can look at all kinds of proposals for dealing with those illegals already here. Certainly, we could ‘round ‘em up and ship ‘em back,’ but would we really want to do that, knowing it would make us look like some of recent history’s most notable villians? Perhaps, a plan for citizenship would be better. Three months to apply and two years to complete. If done, all fines and fees to be forgiven. If not done or not completed, then... adios! And that’s just one idea; maybe you have others.

That’s not right. I used the illegals’ 800 numbers today, and I was allowed to leave a message on voice mail once and got a “mailbox is full” message another time.

Hmmmn. My calls (8, to 6 different senator’s offices, each during daytime hours) have gotten through immediately - always to a real person. But ONLY if I use the Mexican phone number.

Were you after hours?

(I have NEVER gotten anything but a busy signal to their regular office phone numbers. To either the people up here in KY, not to the senators in my home state of GA)

During regular hours. I have called each of my senators over 20 times each in the last three weeks. I have gotten a busy signal once, voice mail 4 or 5 times, mailbox full 3 or 4 times. The rest I got through on a few rings.

They are here because our government failed to do it’s job, failed to secure our borders, and, now, sudden outrage wants to put full blame on those illegal immigrants.

As to the vast majority of illegal aliens, they are here because they paid $3,000.00 or more to some "coyote," who is likely also a drug runner, to knowingly break the law to come into this country; they have been shown how to apply for benefits immediately via brochures provided by the Mexican government; they are obtaining fraudulent ID by stealing Social Security numbers or just making them up; in short, they are evading the law of our land at every turn. These are not blameless victims, they are engaging in predation, at the expense of legitimate citizens of this country. Detain them, treat them humanely, and then reunite them with their families in Mexico, with all due haste. And, imprison them if they ever enter this country illegally again. That's not nearly so severe as Mexico's own policies regarding illegal aliens, and you know it.

Nope.

What about; Your are here illegally, and have broken our laws and refused to pay our taxes, and are using our system for you and your family’s benefit.

IF you accept a single ABSOLUTELY UNIQUE ID card for every member of your family, and immediately start paying your FULL SHARE of taxes on the income you are earning illegally, we will not deport you.

BUT... You are NOT EVER eligible for citizenship unless you return to your home country, apply, and WAIT in line for full papers. (NO “out and back” for “head of household” while Momma and babies stay here, and get in line ahead of LEGEL immigrants who have waited years for the privilege of coming in.)

Further, since you have broken OUR LAWS to come here an work illegally, you will get IMMEDIATELY restrained and deported if you break ANY OTHER LAW while here. You are considered a probationary “red-card” immigrant, and you have received two strikes already: you are a felon by breaking in, and you are a felon for not paying taxes, therefore you have deliberately begun by committing two strikes.

You may NOT vote. Ever.

I got through to about half the Senate offices I called today — real people, I mean. About 2-3 p.m. Washington time.
