Somebody’s paying attention to this thread. I hope they’re learning something.”
Senate staffers having to burn a little midnight oil to take notes (lol)
“But in practice there is no technical means of stopping it”
Chetoff could probably explain how the system works. He’s got Homeland Security, so he should be on the up-in-up on that.

If this bill becomes law, the average American will soon find himself surrounded by an ocean of non-citizens who cost more than they contribute, who bear no allegiance to our republic, and who will actually be afforded more rights, in relation to their responsibilities, than the rest of us....
For some time I have been pondering whether this legislation, once enacted and signed into law, could be vulnerable to a Fourteenth Amendment - "Equal Protection" challenge. Any lawyers out there have a take on this?

The Fence would also fight the “WAR ON DRUGS”,,,no mention of that by anybody !!
STRIKE TWO !!!
In Afhagan Fields The Poppies Grow ,,,! 90% of the worlds heroin,,,
But they don’t care bout that...
My point is we didn’t need the bill for those few provisions, we can do enforcement with laws already on the books.
Good point about the War on Drugs. Just securing the border period would make a dent on the supply. Of course demand is a whole different can of worms.

LOL...that was Kofi Anan’s genius of an idea after reading “How to Win Friends and Influence Warlords” :) Someone grew a brain and decided spraying the warlords cash crop would likely provide diminished returns (retaliatory casualties). Tough spot to be in with troops on the ground. They finally sprayed some, but they just moved the crops further north in Helmand Prov. I think.
Hey CWCT!
Good point. However, the feds and the states are getting to keep a lot of taxes from these illegals who are hired with phony paperwork. The tax withholding is sent to the IRS and the state, as well as the SS and Medicare match paid by the employer. This money is, of course, never credited to anyone. The IRS and the state just keep it all.
Just about the best post I have seen on this issue. Every word was worth reading. Thanks.
Your comments are noted, the central fact is that the Federal government, under the Bush administration has shown little appetite to enforce the border. The signals are basically “come on in, the water’s fine.” The level of animosity generated by our corrupt border management, and the marching of illegals in our streets in a time of war, cannot be overstated. That Bush is so tone deaf to these concerns magnifys the frustration, which leads to anger.
In such a climate comprehensive reform is not possible. With an honest effort to crack down on employers, and enforce the border, some credibility could be gained. Imagine how different this debate would be if, after the months since last year’s immigration fiasco, the border guards had not been imprisoned for doing their jobs, and we had say one hundred miles of the fence built.
Voting to pass it will be an act of war!
Do I see any resistance to this act of war from the people?
Once more I find myself repeating my past words. The citizens response, as I see it, will be for us who recognize this progression, will be to continue to endure for fear of being labeled as too aggressive. The onset of gangrene is painful. However once established, the pain often diminishes. We will learn to live with the pain while our children adapt to this new era. As unsettling as it may be to us patriots, the oncoming lifestyle should be bearable for them.
Is it obvious that this is a subject which has kept me awake many nights.

I disagree. I saw some things about the bill not being Ammnesty and people mis-behaving while others are attempting to shred our constitution and disolve or national soverignty. I would encourage others to read the post no-less, in order to see how one can mentally convince themself that it’s ok to surrender their Flag in battle.
Anyone got the vote counts on the Cloture, then the anticipated votes if full vote?
Tony, while a great guy, was parroting the usual White House crap on this lousy policy.
Nevermind...I’ve got it...
Quti Krankin’ (lol)...well we say, kill this bill!
