We know one thing the Prius does is increase the amount of “smug.”
It just won’t die.
This article is starting to look a bit perennial...

Blasphemy!
Note that the environmental damage for steel production is not tallied, nor a number of other things.
And how does the original author (two clicks away) assume that all the Pious nickel comes from Ontario?
So my NiMH laptop batteries are also evil?
I think most anti- hybrid auto complaints are mostly due to Smug, and the Pious is the best, most visible example of Smug.
I have an Escape with a V6 and my coworker has the hybrid version.
I’m half way to the freeway before he even gets out of the parking lot.
It’s a dog.
The local Ford dealer here refuses to handle them at all because he doesn’t want to piss off his customers.
Aside from all of that, the Prius is an eyesore. Does making the car so freakishly ugly add to fuel economy? Or is it like, “if it tastes bad it must be good for you” type thing?
The nickel mined for batteries has created a giant toxic area in Canada.
That material is shipped to China for processing into battery-grade material (mailing tons of earthly metals across the Pacific Ocean isn’t cheap, by the way).
The batteries are made in Japan.
Then it’s shipped back to North America to be installed in the Prius, to be purchased by preachy liberals who have never heard of Sudbury, Ontario, and will never know how their actions have ruined it.
As the saying goes, for every positive action there is a negative reaction. The only problem is that many just look at the glitzy picture and won’t see the storm cloud on the horizon.
Air Conditioning Reduces Hybrid Fuel Economy

We bought a Prius last summer. I was tired of buying so much gas and putting money in the pockets of chavez and other countries that hate the USA. We always bought American cars until 2000. We took decent care of them, but never had one that didn’t require major repair by about 80,000 mile. I asked a towtruck driver that was towing in my
buick what kind of car to buy that would last, and he said “buy a Toyota, they’re bulletproof”. We did, and that car has 110,000 on it now, with never!! a problem. I checked the repair records for the Prius and it is very good. And besides, some old guy hanging around down at the local Walmart said his son just traded in his Prius after 5 yrs for a new one and his old one had 300,000 miles on it. So beat up on the Prius as much as you like, I like mine and it gets 45 MPG in town and 55 MPG on the highway and it has all the comforts of my minivan. We are retired and live in a rural area so we don’t need a Hummer to tool around in, but I don’t mind that you have one. So please don’t run over us with it, you may be crushing a fellow conservative freeper.

Doesn't that mean "flacid penis" in Greek?
I'd rather have a '71 Camaro SS, which would give me a "Priapism".
