Interest groups will blitz Capitol Hill this week in an attempt to revive a nearly dead immigration overhaul, with a mission of bringing it back for one more try on the Senate floor. President Bush also will personally make his pitch in a rare Capitol Hill trip Tuesday. But whether they have the influence to push a bipartisan compromise past a political stalemate could determine whether Bush gets an immigration bill this year or the issue fades until after he leaves office.
Frank Sharry, executive director for the National Immigration Forum a coalition of Hispanic Advocacy groups, business leaders, labor unions and clergy called the impasse a temporary setback and said the coalition is optimistic about getting it back to the Senate Floor.
Eliseo Medina, executive vice president for the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), said his organization will continue to press for action this year. We are looking to just try to get it out with Republicans not doing any more damage than they have done, Medina said. We are going to be mobilizing a lot more activity in the field to make sure it does happen.
Lending perhaps the most influential policy voice will be the president. Bush is expected to make a rare appearance at the GOP senators policy lunch Tuesday to implore his caucus to get behind a bill that the administration and some of the Senates most conservative members helped draft. The Republicans he will likely be targeting include Johnny Isakson and Saxby Chambliss, both of Georgia, who were closely involved in drafting the deal but have yet to fully commit, and perhaps John Ensign of Nevada and John Cornyn of Texas, who are undecided.

Time to man the phones again folks.
Will they side with Americans or with the illegals.
We will soon find out who is willing to sell out this country to illegals.
These people are always blitzing the Hill. They never go home. How will this be different?
Not exactly an unbiased party. Likely racist, too, unless you buy into the whole notion that only white people can even be racist in this country.
Eliseo Medina, executive vice president for the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), said his organization will continue to press for action this year.
Oh, and here we have a union shill and a racist, hoping to expand his number. What sort of delusion is our president operating under? Where does his allegiance lie?

This is actually good because all the usual jerks will show up with their Mexican flags and anti-American posters, etc. They will make a disgraceful display of themselves and will hurt their cause even further....like they have done every time before.
STOP AMNESTY NOW!! WE CAN DO IT!!
CALL! CALL! CALL! CALL! AND KEEP CALLING TILL THE LINES FRY!
WRITE! WRITE! WRITE! WRITE! TILL YOU RUN OUT OF INK IN YOUR PEN!
Bombard the Democrats as well, especially the ones that ran on an anti illegal immigration plank and the ones in marginal districts who could be vulnerable. keep pounding on them. This is a bipartisan issue not a Conservative or Liberal issue BUT AN AMERICAN issue.
Hey Eliseo and Frank...........the American people don’t want this. When will you get that through your think skulls?
Well, today's e-mail brought the following rather caustic reply to my message castigating Mr. Nash for greed and unlawfulness and a lack of patriotism for his hiring of illegal aliens. It convinced me NOT!
(Ms. Marie, I wonder if you sent the email after dinner on Saturday night. If you did and enjoyed a salad, most of the ingredients were harvested by immigrants. Unfortunately, local help is not available to harvest crops regardless of the wages. It is seasonal in nature and crews move from area to area harvesting crops. I am confident most workers make more money than the average paid to workers at the Dell Mfg plant in the western part of the state. The average rate of pay at that plant was under $9.00 per hour and the state paid money to bring in the factory. Workers harvesting crops usually work piece rate. The H2a program which is the current guest worker program for agriculture in NC, guarantees workers $9.02 per hour plus housing plus transportation. I wonder if I could get some of the Dell workers to come harvest crops for a few weeks.
Enjoy lunch!!

I plan on writing Mr. Nash again (not that it will change his mind, of course) to let him know that his whining and lying about a shortage falls on this gal's educated ears and that this gal is willing to pay another 25 cents for a head of lettuce for American pickers instead of trillions of dollars the American people will have to pay eventually if Bush/Kennedy?McCain/Kyle/Graham et al. prove that many deep pockets pull their strings.
Regards . . . Penny

I was on the telephone this morning. I suggest calling the RNC in DC and informing the leadership that there will be no $$ and no campaign workers for any POS that vote in favor of this garbage. Let the leadership whisper in the deaf ears of these out-of-control out-of-touch traitors in the GOP. They’re toast! They can start packing early.

Call each Senator and deliver the same message.
My, my, and what an illustrious surname in the state of North Carolina, that this man is willing to sully for a buck or two.
Pro legal immigration forces need to really start fighting, I mean the whole 9 yards!
Americans should be up their ourselves opening up an industrial size can of whoop-ass!
You are right. I have been able to get through easily today.
Call, write, email.
Dear Penny, you might add this to your note.
Dear Mr. Joyner,
Speaking as a native American whose first job was hoeing weeds in a vineyard, 55 hours a week all summer, I can say this without hesitation ... raise the wages and you will get pickers. Oh yeah, and you’ll have to start obeying health and safety laws too, Americans won’t put up with that cr@p. And if I pay another nickel a head for lettuce, it’ll be worth it.
Regards,
RKV
