Let this be a lesson to all future Generals not to comment on domestic policy and “morality”. You want to do that, you’re welcome to civilian life.

I got that impression too. I don’t see how anyone in their right mind would want to go through that process now. What some people, even many on FR, don’t seem to realize is that there were big changes in Congress last fall. Now we’re seeing the fall-out from it.

You’d think the Democrats got a huge margin in both houses from the way they behave. When they showed old Carl Levin on their yesterday, I just knew it had something to do with having to show up at some committee with him on it. I had an ominous feeling!

I suspect that shortly, we are going to see a whole slew of Bush-bashers on here barking about how he fires everyone around him to please the Democrats. Oh wait a minute, they already have. I can hear a rumble from that direction already!

In the interview in Chicago, Pace chose to say what he said. He could have said that the law is the law and he supports the law, but he chose not to. In fact, he said that he knew he was going to get ino trouble with what he was going to say.

To the larger issue, those who say he was canned because of the gay comment are dreaming. The issue with the Dems is the war - they don’t want us to be there, they don’t like the way it’s being run, and they don’t anyone associated with “Rummy’s War.” Pace is just the next person to fall because of it.

Again, because we don’t know what advice he gave to Rummy/Gates vs what they did, we cannot say for sure that Pace shouldn’t have been canned.

Just speculating, but think beyond the man — or the issue — in question. If a confirmation hearing would provide RATS and RINOS in the Senate a high profile media event which could scuttle other initiatives, or even provide impetus going into the next election season, then someone has to fall on his sword.

Those are all contributing reasons as well. However the gay remarks were part of the reason Pace was let go and since the piece that TexKat posted had to do with that subject, I responded with affirmation that FoxNews at least was also corroborating this.

Democrats looks at gays as a voting bloc like any other group that they put under their microscope. Since the Democrat party of today is made up of nothing but special interest groups, gays are very much part of that definition and democraps defend them.

Simple.

Wouldn't that event
ALSO give REPUBLICANS
a chance to expose

the dirty laundry
and the lies and corruption
of the Democrats?!

Is your assumption
that Republicans are BAD
and the 'Rats are GOOD

so if they squabble
in the media the 'Rats
would be bound to win?!

(That certainly seems
to be the BUSH assumption
since he will NOT fight

for his own people.
It makes me very angry.
Why all this running?)

But this guy got licked...

Not at all. My assumption is that 'Rats will make it a media squabble, and the MSM will always spin it in the 'Rats' favor, that the MSM will portray it as Republicans BAD 'Rats GOOD.

meat grinder....

Why do these good people have to be degraded so?
It’s all about political power for the Dems. Drip, drip, drip.

As for Bush’s fighting, it would turn into childish bickering.

You can certainly make that argument, and probably a few years ago I would have. It's important for politicians to pick their battles, and to save their political capital for the most important issues. So, you could argue that he will give in on this one and fight when the issue is more critical.

The only problem is, what is he saving his political capital for? The amnesty bill? The Law of the Sea Treaty waiting in the wings? Excusing some Democrat from having to face punishment for his criminal activities?

I would say to let this go if I thought it would be a losing battle. But frankly I'd like to see the Democrats go to the mat because General Pace said that public homosexual acts and public adultery are not condoned by the military. let them defend the right to bugger their fellow soldiers if they want, I don't think it would play well with many voters. Especially since General Pace was only speaking about enforcing the military code of conduct as revised by Bill Clinton.

Don’t disagree.

Then again (does that make me a “But”-monkey?)... then again, his letter in support of Libby didn’t help either.

Heck even Sen Warner (VA -R) said it would get bloody.

If the GOP still held the Senate it would be tough.

Thank you all REP’s who thought it would be good to teach the GOP a lesson by letting the Dems win.

What is a "lesser position" for a 4-star general?

Just having one kicking around the office is a threat to the authority of the guy in charge - thus, you retire them and get them out of the way.
