11-Year-Old Arrested For Using Rubber Band Gun OCOEE (Florida), June 7: An 11-year-old Ocoee boy was arrested for playing with a toy gun. Police said the arrest was necessary, because it was a safety issue.

The boy was using a rubber band gun and his father said the kid did nothing wrong, but police said they take it as a serious threat and the 11-year-old is facing felony charges.

The crime isn't very common, but Ocoee police said it is serious. It centers on an 11-year0old boy and his toy short-barreled shotgun.

The incident started Sunday afternoon, when the 11-year-old was riding in his dad's pickup near Clarke Road and White Road in Ocoee. Someone driving nearby called police after they said the boy pointed what looked like a real gun out the window. The victim told police she was afraid for her life.

"With that type of behavior, it's hard to tell if it's a real gun or not, especially in their car," said Sgt. Randy Conyers, Ocoee Police Department.

But, according to the charging affidavit, the 11-year-old's dad said nothing was wrong with what his son had done and that he used to do it as a kid. The boy even told police he was pretending to be a cop and thought the victims were laughing with him.

The gun itself only fires rubber bands and was checked into evidence. Police didn't comment on the weapon's color or release any images. Still, the victims said they were frightened and, police said, toy or no toy, the charges are justified.

Eyewitness News spoke to the father of the suspect on the phone. He said his son is out of juvenile detention and that a judge told him the case would be dropped. He also confirmed that the gun was black, but that it looked more like a stick than a gun.

We have indeed become a nation of idiots. When I was a kid we ALL used to run around with rubber band guns, and they look nothing like a real firearm. Only a complete fool would think so and a cop who would arrest a young child for this is beyond stupid.

The victim told police she was afraid for her life.

I weep for our culture.

"An 11-year-old Ocoee boy was arrested for playing with a toy gun. "

Media hyperbole.

a serious threat and the 11-year-old is facing felony charges - This scares me much more than a rubber band gun. Can we have the Law Enforcement Officers, those well trained professional protectors of our society that brought these felony charges given citations for their brave work? I cannot imagine the courage or number of people it must have taken to face down this terrorist, certainly the boy was an illegal and a Muslim.

Well, I think they over-reacted. They could have checked out the situation and told him not to do it again. That would have probably scared the kid enough.

That said though, his dad should have taught him not to be pointing guns (toy or otherwise) at a living things unless he plans to kill or eat it.

Is there a photograph of what junior pointed at the scared lady?

I wouldn't want to glance over at the truck in the next lane and see something like this pointed at me ...

Bu then, I'm here in SoCal where people really do shoot at other people (sometimes complete strangers) from car to car.

My father taught me never to point a weapon at anyone (toy or not) if you don’t intend to shoot them.

So we cannot call in Islamic terrorists who are planning to attack US cities, Military bases, Nuclear sites, colleges, or move to hijack an airliner for fear of an ACLU/CAIR lawsuit, but we darn will sure cuff and stuff an 11 yr old boy? In addition, they are going to charge him with a FELONY?

Priorities anyone?

When I was in grade school, all the little boys played with toy guns and even BB or pellet guns at times. No one was frightened, injured or faced arrest and felony charges, and we all grew up just fine.

This world of ours is fast becoming an authoritarian stink-hole, populated by frightened sheep, and governed by halfwits.

A felony conviction would preclude this kid from voting for life, unless he went to Mexico and snuck in as an illegal under the proposed senate amnesty bill.
