DRUDGE - REPORTS: IMMIGRATION BILL ON THE BRINK OF COLLAPSE IN SENATE... DEVELOPING...
DRUDGE ^ | DRUDGE (or Breitbart)

That is the headline on Drudge and all he has for now. Since Matt is undoubtedly in bed on the East Coast, we can probably thank Andrew Breitbart.

The immigration bill is on the brink of collapse in the Senate. Let's hope for some more developments soon.

Ironically if the bill does die Bush will get all of the blame for even having stupidly brought it up. Kennedy and the libs will get credit in the MSM for “trying to help families” while the left will crucify conservatives for being “cold hearted bigots”. I used to defend Bush being an intelligent man who was misunderestimated, but I truly have to question his mental capacities. Did it ever enter his pea-brain that Ted Kennedy does NOT have America’s best interests in mind? It was lose-lose from the beginning. He pretty much evaporated the remaining conservative support he had. Now he literally has no one to support him. I feel lost and betrayed by this man.

Probably not. Ever since the beginning of his presidency, he's suffered from the delusion that the way to get along with Democrats is to be nice to them, that you can convince them, that you can appeal to their "better nature". We know better that leftists are not interested in the welfare of their nation, they are interested in the acquisition and retention of power. Sadly, Bush has not yet figured out that this ain't the Texas legislature.

I know. Texas democrats can be reasonable. Washington democrats are insane. Bush has been there 6 years, why hasn’t he learned this?

Let it be his albatross, he earned it.

I have been informed that Senator Dorgan (D-ND) will be voting AGAINST the immigration bill currently in the Senate.

The reversal dismayed backers of the immigration bill, which is supported by President Bush but loathed by many conservatives. Business interests and their congressional allies were already angry that the temporary worker program had been cut in half from its original 400,000-person-a-year target. A five-year sunset, they said, could knock the legs from the precarious bipartisan coalition aligned with the White House. The Dorgan amendment "is a tremendous problem, but it's correctable," said Sen. Arlen Specter, R-Pa. The coalition will try as early as Thursday to persuade at least one senator to help reverse the outcome yet again, he said...

Anything that takes down Arlen Sphincter and that epicene Lindsey Graham is music to my ears.

“Call the “Senate Immigration Reform Hotline” at 1 800 417 7666
Press 1 for your senior senator, 2 for your junior senator.

This will connect you DIRECTLY to your senator without going through the congressional switchboard.”

I just called and spoke to a representative of Sen. Hutchison.

This fella was explaining to me that this line is in NO WAY affiliated with the Senators offices. This is a liberal organization that has set up in spanish to rerouted calls to the offices of the senators.

These pro-immigration dips are deceiving the Mexican illegals into thinking they are getting preferentrial treatment so that they will have a elevated pro-immigration reform caller harvest.

The rep at Hutchison's office insisted and assured me several times that she is NOT for this bill and is attempting to kill it.

It would be nice to know who voted against this. I bet they were all RATS.

Yes, lots of dirty, filthy 'Rats voted against it, including a sizable number of dirty rats in the GOP.

On the one hand you want a moderate immigration rate, as we’ve long had, to separate the wheat from the chaff. This has been going on since the mayflower landed. The irish, southern europeans, vietnamese, cambodians, cubans, haitians, koreans, russians, iraqis; the list goes on and on as america has become a “world country” with every ethnic group represented.

But this mexican invasion is more akin to the muriel boat lift in which castro did a toxic waste dump on us. The mexican government is dumping all their unwanted trash on us. If you allow this amnesty(hey mice, come in and STEAL)then the entire third world will come right in after them. That can mean 2 BILLION poor, starving beggers dumped on your doorstep, can YOU house them?

So tester’s and baucus’s political future is on the line right now. Although we in Montana haven’t been flooded as bad as southern border states, we see the invasion for what it is : a direct threat to all of us. Graham-SC isn’t the only one going down in flames over this, watch what happens in Montana as well....

No. You are thinking of an earlier Coburn amendment defeated on June 6th. The title of Coburn’s latest amendment says this: To require the enforcement of existing border security and immigration laws and Congressional approval before amnesty can be granted. (The word ‘amnesty’ is actually used in the title of the amendment)

This amendment gathered the support of 31 Republicans and 11 democrats. The nay vote consisted of 16 Republicans and 38 democrats. The 11 democrats were either from Red States or heavily private sector, unionized states like Michigan and West Virginia. Senator Snowe (R-Maine) also voted aye, I would bet due to her support by the shipyard workers union in Bath, Maine. Her counterpart, Sen. Collins (R) voted nay.

No surprise here. Dorgan was one of four Dems who voted against the 2006 bill. It is worth remembering the vote tally for the 2006 Senate bill that passed 62-36. The Senate Reps voted 32-23 against the bill, but we have lost Burns, Allen, Santorum, Thomas, and Talent who voted against the bill. In addition, Kyl, Lott, Chambliss, and Isakson will vote for the bill this time. That represents a loss of nine people who voted against the last bill. We gain Corker for Frist who voted for the 2006 bill. So we start a net of 8 down. I still predict a bill coming out of the Senate with 65-70 votes.

Did you know that that line is a Pro Immigration number?

And if you call it.....they probably count it as such. They pay attention to numbers...not rants.

Don’t stop folks -— keep up the pressure -— this thing must be dead, dead, dead -— so dead that they won’t think about selling America out again ...
___________________________________________________________

If this thing dies we still need to put the screws to any senator of either party that was even mildly supportive of this act of treason. These are still traitors whose instincts are to sell us out and they must never be allowed to bring this country to the brink of destruction again

Not necessarily true kabar. To me the key votes are the Dorgan amendment that passed 49-48 last nite and the Coburn amendment that was defeated today 42-54. The reason a number of democrats voted as they did on these votes is heavy pressure from unions in the private sector which are opposed to the guest worker and in some cases portions of the amnesty provisions of the bill. Unless those provisions are removed the underlying bill will go down to defeat. In addition some Red State Senators from Montana, North Dakota, Nebraska, Indiana & Louisiana supported the latest Coburn amendment as well.

Wow...cool...didn’t know that, interesting about the word Amnesty being in there. I wonder if this is just a big scam to get people riled up on both sides so our congress critters can rake in more donation $$$ ?
