LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Los Angeles residents were urged on Wednesday to take shorter showers, reduce lawn sprinklers and stop throwing trash in toilets in a bid to cut water usage by 10 percent in the driest year on record.
With downtown Los Angeles seeing a record low of 4 inches
of rain since July 2006 -- less than a quarter of normal -- and with a hot, dry summer ahead, Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa said the city needed "to change course and conserve water to steer clear of this perfect storm."
It is the driest year since rainfall records began 130 years ago.

Good idea...and they are!
The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) is in the feasibility planning stages of evaluating seawater desalination as a potential water resource option for the City of Los Angeles.

20 % !!! It was 10% when I left in 1993.
Huh?
Yeah but the real question is, do L.A. residents do #1 in the shower like George Costanza? Is it acceptable? I mean, it’s going down the drain anyway, right?
LA has wanted to tap the Great Lakes for years and know it seems they will be pushing for it even more. Thankfully the Constitution requires that a treaty between all Great Lakes states and Canada before anything can be done.
Let them use Handi Wipes!
Desalination requires a lot of power. And they don't really have that much to spare. That is another thing that Los Angeles and California should be embarrassed about.
Taylor Elliot lifts a big piece of Histosol. This site was a marsh, but a drop in the water table drained the soil, which is now severely eroded by wind.
Sheesh! I left in 84, and thought I had allowed enough for 'growth' since then.
May I borrow this?
Feel FRee! And pass it around.
Can’t have a “coalition” with only one member...unless you’re a Liberal front organization. LOL

That would be the sensible approach. I’ve seen commercials where they are being built in the mid-East. Qatar, I believe.
Let's all flush our toilets at the same time for a cheap thrill!:)
I cannot imagine the stench in LA with the NO Shower Left Behind act and Cheryl Crows “one Square per Sitting” thought process being implemented with an undercurrent of unbathing libs.........
Stinky puss_ is all I have to say.
FROM THE “NO GOOD DEED GOES UNPUNISHED FILE”
I will remind everyone in LA that is a DWP customer the last time their was a drought they told people to cut back on their usage. Only to find out they did it so well they did not make the money they projected that year so they RAISED their water bill rates to cover their (obedient) budget short fall.
