Why I Believe Fred Thompson is the Right Guy for America
Grassroots Voter ^ | June 5, 2007 | Chester Goad

Posted on 06/06/2007 4:44:17 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

Back in the day when people cared that the President of United States was giving a televised speech, I remember sitting in front of my family's gigantic wooden tv box complete with rabbit ears anticipating with my mom and dad the announcement that our President, Ronald Reagan would soon be speaking to the nation.

I was 11 years old. My parents were Democrats. That was also back in the days when the election ended and the President was our President regardless of how we voted--democrat or republican. I didn't know what I was until I heard Reagan speak. Strangely enough I don't remember everything he said, but I do remember sitting up a little straighter as I sat cross-legged on our shag carpet listening to every word. Ronald Reagan made me want to sit up a little straighter on that carpet. He was my president and I knew then that I wanted to be what he was: a Republican.

By his very nature, Ronald Reagan made us want to be better Americans. It was ok then (and I believe it still is) to be a nationalist. Ronald Reagan modeled strong leadership to the world. He was compassionate of course, but without having to say the word. He embodied a strength and a resolve that got the world's attention and their respect.

I believe that Fred Thompson will be that kind of leader for America. How long has it been since we've had to urge someone to be our candidate and ultimately our President? How long has it been since a President made us want to stand up a little straighter?

I don't know about you, but I long for that and I believe we can have it again. I've heard it said that Thompson will be another Ronald Reagan. I believe he'd agree there will never be another Ronald Wilson Reagan, but I believe Fred Dalton Thompson will make us proud the way Reagan did.

America, we still have some convincing to do. Many people have asked, "Who'd want the job?" Maybe it's time we stop looking at people who want the job and encourage the one who should be our President to go for it.

It's time for us to stand up straight and it's time to get our hands dirty for the candidate we know can deliver in ‘08.

Then where has he been? While the other guys have been campaigning their hearts out, Fred fiddles. I wish I knew how to build a web site; I’d start one called “FredFiddles” dot something or other.

And while they've been doing it your way, Fred has vaulted to second or third (depending), doing it his way. Sounds pretty smart to me.

What a sorry excuse for a poster. Is that your sole purpose to come on to every Fred thread and take a dump?

If you haven't noticed Fred is getting more national air time than all the other candidates combined. Fred made an appearance on Hannity and Combs last night. Fred appeared on Kudlow's TV show today. Fred is doing his radio show. Fred is making video clips and getting mega hits on Youtube. Fred is in second place without spending a dime.

I understand your frustration, Saundra. But you have to realize that ALL the candidates jumped in early because they are wanting to get a jump on each other, raising money, collecting a base, and seeing what appeal they have.

Unfortunately for ALL of them, they are getting the cold shoulder form the largest portion of the Republican base, those who believe gun control, abortion, borders, gay-rights, and the proper defense of this country should come first. Some of the current field has flip-flopped on any one of these issues so much we don't know which way they are going. That scares me and it should worry you.

FDT has made his statements time and again. We, who support him KNOW where he stands on ALL of these issues. He hasn't flipped, hasn't flopped. He has answered every question about his views with direct talk. No beating around the bush. No pandering for support. Just plain straight talk.

He is building his base now, and he appeals to the ones who are not pleased with what is available. Watch the groundswell of support grow and become the juggernaut call Fred Dalton Thompson.

Fred Thompson is good enough to be president of the US. No one else running in either party can honestly make the same claim for themselves.

Oh please, stop it already, the he is waiting to long/lazy/not serious crowd is growing tiresome.

Thompson is playing your guys like a master musician. Letting them bleed into one loud rumble as he hits his points on his own pulpit. They are making the Rudy McRomney joke a reality while Fred runs a new campaign of running his way. Maybe it will back fire and maybe its pure genius.

All I know is that the only real deadline for Thompson is the filing dates for the various primaries not the arbitrary time line born of modern tradition and the news media.

I’ll give you credit.

You’re brave as hell for saying anything negative about Fred.

The Fred fans are just as sensitive as the Rudy fans were.

I read somewhere last week that it was Jeri’s idea for Fred to do that video. If that’s true, then she is a awesome asset to his campaign. Helps to be married to a former GOP media consultant!

You're obviously NOT paying attention. He's been doing commentaries for ABC and a stint on the Paul Harvey show. How else do you think all of us have learned about him?

The only requirement in announcing his candidacy is that he'd have to do it before the first Republican primary in time to get on the ballot. He doesn't have to announce when everyone else does. If he's getting good publicity without having to spend campaign dollars, sounds like a smart dude to me!
