Go, FRED!
Spreading rumors about someone's personal life is not a good thing, especially if there is no evidence to support them. That being said, we know that he didn't cheat on his wife while he was dating in DC, and besides I'm not looking for someone who has been a saint to serve as President. I'm looking for someone who will abide by the Constitution, and supports the conservative ideas of government that I have myself.
I think it is a GREAT dress. She’s the same age as me, but my kids are a bit older, so I dress a little more matronly.
Good thing we’re not all as shallow as you.
I just noticed a few things about Thompson that could be an issue. Just being honest.
1. he looks really old. I mean REALLY old. He looks 15 years older than Romney and many of the others are the same age as him or close to it. I know this sounds superficial but these things DO matter in a general election. Voters do take these things into account subconsciously. Yes it isn’t fair, but looks do matter. He looks old like Dole and his face is drooping down and he has a very Nixon scouling angry face.
2. the way he talks is very boring and he puts you to sleep. He needs to be more charismatic and likeable. Nothing really stands out or makes him seem like anything special.
3. the southern thing. I think the average voter wants someone that doesn’t remind them of Bush in any manner. I don’t think voters want another sounthern repeat. Sorry that is just the vibe I get.
4. The wife is definately an image issue for him. She comes across as a gold digger and an older woman who is hanging onto dreams of being in playboy. I don’t have a problem with her, but many voters will. They look very odd standing next to eachother. He may not be taken seriously as a candidate.
5. he needs to get into the race. he needs to $hit or get off the pot. He comes acrosss as someone too afraid, above everyone else or too lazy to go through the motions that all the other candidates are going through, including the dems.
I really think a republican will have a tough time winning no matter who it is because of the Iraq war. It will have to be someone with broad appeal, very likeable despite the dissatisfaction with republicans and the war.
Are you kidding? If you're for states' rights, Thompson is your candidate. Outside Ron Paul (whom I respect but can't support based on national security issues), Thompson has the strongest leadership record on federalism in the race. I'd be glad to give you links if you're merely misinformed.
Very good points, so far.
And just as I'd have a problem with a woman who married a man young enough to be her son, I have a problem with a man who marries a woman young enough to be his daughter.
And no one is spreading "rumors."
Thank you.
Michael Reagan is correct. People really are lying to themselves about Thompson. If that's really all it was, Thompson wouldn't have felt the need to make the comment.
Frankly I find it sad that I’ve been so happily surprised to hear Thompson speak about federalism and see that his record backs up his speech.
It’s kind of like being surprised when a customer service rep is actually helpful. It shouldn’t be a thrilling novelty to have a candidate who believes in federalism, talks about the Founders and the Constitution, and backs that up with his record.
But since it is so rare, that explains my outright enthusiasm for Thompson. :)
*thank you* for that link.
Fred has an HBO movie coming out soon, contractual obligations that would have meant HBO, etc. would have had to offer free air time to all the other candidates...if he became a candidate too early. So he’s had to play catch up in innovative and legal ways...for instance, using the internet with that great Moore kick in the pants piece of two weeks ago.
Well, he hasn’t got his card yet. But he sure is carrying their water. You can’t deny that!
Hunter did extremely well last night, but that so called debate venue doesn’t offer much. They each have to hope they can come up with an answer that makes them stand out...10 seconds or less. Hunter is definitely a class act. (He’s on our side, guys.) We’re so lucky he and Fred are running.
I think that things have gotten so far out of hand that it would be nearly impossible to fix.
Having so many cheap labor produced items in China, our enemy to be sure, is not a good situation. Human Events did a story back in the 90's about China's long term plan and it wasn't pretty. We are funding their military build up and massive polution of their people.
I do agree with Chesterton's opinion many years ago that Capitalism, the way it is practiced, is an admitted failure much like socialism. Of course we have a mix now of both. But the fact that families need two incomes today in our country is not a good thing. The situation is anti-family. We have a Eugenic society that believes in contraception. This is the fundamental break that we have made with the past and the future. We are stranded in time.
When I complain about the CFR and the New World Order I am recognising what appears at this point to be unstoppable. Back in the 60's before everyone became too stoned to care, there was a movement to go back to the earth, small farming not business farming. And that was hopeful from the standpoint of people being self-sufficient, a condition necessary for real democracy. With everyone dependant upon someone else for their basic needs it is impossible to find a voter who actually votes for something other than their own selfish interests. Democracy cannot function well in a society of users.
Fred has cancer that is in remission.
Interestingly, abortion in our time mirrors the civil war slavery issue...in terms of states’ rights vs. federal law. Fred is surely pro-life, just think about it a moment. He’s already suffered one heartbreaking loss with his daughter’s death. A parent never, never gets over it and if the sanctity of life doesn’t hit you square between the eyes at that point, you’re either amoral or stupid and Fred is neither. (He is a federalist who believes in states’ rights.)
Maybe that wasn't such a good idea
Kinda makes you wonder about their decision making processes - and their need to be "part of the in crowd".
Fred, OTOH, is taking his time and doing it "his way" - which seems to be working very well. He's getting FREE airtime in a friendly setting while most of the others are on a lesser channel getting to speak in 2 minute snippets - with their entire goal being to say "nothing".
And, I watched him and he used some of the STRONGEST, unyielding language about Iran & Libby that I have ever heard ANY politician use yet. He seems to speak his mind - and actually say what he thinks - instead of spouting little "code-word" snippets every few seconds.
So far, he's got my vote (if he decides to run).
And, my Democrat freinds are ALREADY kind of freaking out about him as they know that he has the plain-speaking folksiness that MANY people like - along with Senate experience - topped off by playing a "good guy" on one of the most popular TV shows ever - a trifecta of popularity.
I believe that, if he runs, he will crush all other candidates and could be the man who "saves" the pubbies from themselves.
So. although Mitt seems "a decent man and candidate" - I think that Fred will be the last man standing at the convention - and in the general election.
I wasn’t going to bother telling him...
Perhaps I am wrong about Fred, but everyone here thought that Bush was the bees knees up until he unloaded this amnesty nonsense.
But back in 2000 he refused to deal with the border issue when Buchanan brought it up.
If politicians like Bush can get away with looking good and not adressing the issues the electorate can be easily duped.

They interviewed Hunter recently and they are very thorough in their approach. They can put you in touch with much of what the MSM doesn't want to talk about.
I hope that you are right about Fred Thompson because I don't want any demorats!
