1968 - Robert F. Kennedy shot
At 12:50 a.m. PDT, Senator Robert F. Kennedy, a presidential candidate, is shot three times in a hail of gunfire in the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles. Five others were wounded. The senator had just completed a speech celebrating his victory in the California presidential primary. The shooter, Palestinian Sirhan Sirhan, had a smoking .22 revolver wrested from his grip and was promptly arrested. Kennedy, critically wounded, was rushed to the hospital, where he fought for his life in the next 24 hours. On the morning of June 6, he died. He was 42 years old.

A pan-Arab Marxist group, as were all of the original PLO members, enamored of Che, more accurate to call them athiests. Over the years it's become Islamist.
I’ve always wondered if Jack was such a stoner, how could he get it “up” so often for all his chicks?
‘Ive always wondered if Jack was such a stoner, how could he get it up so often for all his chicks?’
Depends on the drug and the constitution of the person taking it in my experience.
Directly. That we know of.
If you count the results of policies he's either devised, advocated or supported, the number reaches into the millions in SE asia alone....
This film suggests at least one possibility.....
“Suicide bombing didn’t seem to catch on with them.
Without the virgins, it probably doesn’t seem like such a good idea.
He was no prima donna, just a good man like the West makes'um.
For those too young to know: Senator Mike Mansfield represented his home state of Montana for several terms as a Republican, then was appointed ambassador to Japan.
The way I saw it, Bobby Kennedy stole the thunder of Gene McCartney in his anti-war pursuit of the presidency. He was a prima donna for that reason alone (but your story adds to my beliefs about him).
And then there's the stories about Marilyn......
Mansfield was a Democrat (and was Senate Majority Leader when the Democrats held the Senate).
But they held a special hatred for...GUNS!
The JFK, Medgar Evers and Martin Luther King shootings were used to kindle the fire, and the Bobby Kennedy killing set off a conflagration.
The result was ,
less violent comic books for a while, a very short while.
Dumbed down TV shows, More kid friendly, less shooting or adult themes.
Movie moguls declared they would police themselves with a rating system (Censorship is gone! More violence and nudity! have at it boys).
And that travesty imposed on us, the 1968 Gun Control Act (the Nazi Weapons act of the 1930’s rewritten by Thomas J. Dodd.)
Dodd had been trying for seven years to get gun control in the US. And the 1968 law was mild compared to what he really wanted. The NRA managed to cool things down a little.
In that year I learned the worst legislation can be bought by PORK! The 1968 GCL was passed only because it contained a large amount of money for each state to be used for “Crime Control”
It’s like another law in 1994 that only passed because it contained a large amount of money for “crime control”, the AWB.
To get a feeling what it was like in 1968, you should go to a public library and take a look at their magazine archives for LIFE, LOOK and SATURDAY EVENING POST to to see what madness we were up against.
Mafia, StoneCutters, LBJ, Castro, Space Aliens, Right Wing Conspiracy....
Oops. Sorry. Wrong Thread.
Good thing we faked the moon landing to make everything all better, right?
Any of those explanations make more sense than saying it was a Muslim plot (not that that’s saying much). All I’m saying is that if you like to think about who could have been behind the shootings (other than a random nut) the Kennedy’s left plenty of people with motive and ability.
Agreed, Mike Mansfield was a good man. He kept the Senate in line, but he never did it corruptly or cynically the way LBJ did. I’ve often said that the Senate Republicans need someone like Mansfield to straighten them out, instead of the spineless losers they keep putting in charge.
I had been working hard the the Eugene McCarthy campain when word came he had been shot. Boy have I changed politically in 39 years.Too bad Teddy did not change as well.
That's embarrassing; I lived in Montana when he was their Senator. I must have been too young to pay attention.
He was one of the old-school Scoop Jackson Democrats. I would not fear for my country if more Democrats were like him.
That’s my favorite episode of ‘From The Earth To The Moon’.
Sirhan was in prison and he asked the other inmates if they could steal a pound of something, what would it be? They answered diamonds, gold, valuables.
He answered weapons grade plutonium.
And that proves what? He wasn’t a Muslim.
