Backers of Immigration Bill More Optimistic:Resistance Fading, Lawmakers Say [in their dreams]
Washington Post ^ | 6/4/07 | Jonathan Weisman

Posted on 06/03/2007 8:40:06 PM PDT by freespirited

After a week at home with their constituents, the Senate architects of a delicate immigration compromise are increasingly convinced they will hold together this week to pass an overhaul of the nation's immigration laws, with momentum building behind one unifying theme: Today's immigration system is too broken to go unaddressed.

Congress's week-long Memorial Day recess was expected to leave the bill in tatters. But with a week of action set to begin today, the legislation's champions say they believe the voices of opposition, especially from conservatives, represent a small segment of public opinion. Sen. Jon Kyl (R-Ariz.), who led negotiations on the bill for his party, said the flood of angry calls and protests that greeted the deal two weeks ago has since receded every day.

"You just have to recognize you will get 300 calls, you'll get conflicts at town hall meetings -- all of them negative," said Rep. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.), who consulted with Kyl and hopes to carry a similar deal through the House in July. "The last few days have really turned things around."

This is the Washington Compost trying to buck up the Senate. They would believe anything the Post tells them over anything a constituent would. They are an isolated and arrogant bunch of aristocrats back their in DC. Maybe its time to swap the current flock for some more in tune with America.

Remember the "Million" Man March? The Annual "Abortion Protest" in D.C.?

The conservative talking heads have radio/TV/internet access to millions of Americans. We could do with one or more of them calling out to Americans against illegal invasion to unite and protest in Washington. For those who can't get there, many could unite at their state capitol on THE DESIGNATED DATE, which will have to be very, very soon.

We need someone to get the ball rolling.

...swap the current flock for some more in tune with American(s).

In other words, throw the anti-American bums out of office. I'm with you. Problem is, where will we find loyal Americans who will, and can afford to, run for office? Money plays a disgusing role in who runs and who is elected.

Conservatives who have lost faith in the Republican Party will find no support of their values in the other major party.

J Weisman is the Wash Post DNC operative who attended a series of classes held by a radical left wing legal group for the new Dem aides in Congress in order to push thru leftist causes. Need I say anymore. This is a just press release by the DNC meant to discourage the BASE !
This tells us how really bad the bill is the the Repub party.J Weiseman = THE DNC.

“...the flood of angry calls and protests that greeted the deal two weeks ago has since receded every day”...”the last few days have really turned things around.”

Legal citizens eventually have to turn back to focusing their jobs so they can pay their taxes, avoid jail.

They’re not full time lobbyists, or dependents on the state.

Fortunately, we can still vote - ‘big time’...

But with a week of action set to begin today, the legislation's champions say they believe that the voices of opposition, especially from conservatives, represent a small segment of public opinion.

Yea right, 75 to 80 % is a "small segment" That is total BS propaganda.

If he pulls his support for the bill over a "killer" amendment, Kyl said, he will be accused of succumbing to right-wing threats, and he is not sure he can persuade enough colleagues to bolt with him. Brent Wilkes, national executive director of the League of United Latin American Citizens, said his group is in the same position, saying it would bring the bill down if the Senate does not restore the family reunification system (read chain migration) and give temporary workers a chance to appeal for citizenship (amnesty).

No, it is called "the will of The People."

"We've been saying, 'Go forward, go forward, keep the process running' for so long, it's not realistic to think we can stop this after we've already made people take such difficult votes,"

Of course you can stop it, it's called TAKE A VOTE

Wilkes said. "I don't know how we got into the box that we've gotten into, but I don't see how we can find a winning hand."

You cant see one because IT IS NOT THERE!

Looks like the propaganda machine is in full swing, all the rats and traitors are pumping out how "optimistic" they are.

Fry the fax lines, make their ancestors weep.

Resistance is NOT fading where I live.
If anything, it is growing.

More and more people against this bill are talking long and hard to those who are fence-sitting.

Just emailed both my Senators, but I don’t expect it will do any good... powers that be want it, screw what the people want.

I am under the belief and this time, there is no hope for change, other than that the tree of liberty is in need of refreshing.

[From the article]they believe the voices of opposition, especially from conservatives, represent a small segment of public opinion.

Even if what the RNC believes is true, it is still a large enough percentage to keep them out of power for generations.

The only theory I can come up with is that the RNC thinks that it can get a majority of the new voters by redefining the GOP as a christian-socialist party (which it really already is) that would run against the secular-socialist party (the Dems).

Under this model, small government conservatives would be relegated to a fringe group.

The Washington Post has now moved beyond delusional into schizophrenia, with no basis in reality.

Americans favor amnesty 52% to 44% (ABC/Washington Post).

I think that is a very awkwardly worded poll. I have no doubts that most of the US citizens oppose mass round ups and most people probably think that amnesty is the only other alternative.

The part that is left out is that once the current set of illegals are given amnesty, then they will be unemployable as they will not work for below market wages.

In order to fill the void, the industries that (greedily) rely on illegals will have to import a new set to undercut the guest workers and new citizens.

It may pass the Senate where there aren't many GOP opponents of illegal immigration. But that's a different story in the House where the GOP caucus majority is adamantly against it. They'll enact amnesty - in their dreams.

The House is all about majority rules, though. They don't have to have 60% to bring a vote to the floor the way the Senate does.

There are a few parlimentary technicalities that the conservative members of the House can use, but not many. The sad fact of the matter is that the conservative members of the House of irrelevant in this debate due to their minority status.

To have a voice again, conservatives will have to be vote third party.

If conservatives would stop holding their nose and just voting for the republican just to keep the Democrat from winning, then the GOP would start caring about them again.

Guys like Kyl know that when it comes election time, he can say "I may not be the perfect candidate, but I'm better than the democrat" and the conservatives will vote for him anyway.

Our only hope is to vote 3rd party until either that party is strong enough to overtake the GOP or the GOP realizes that it can't win without luring the 3rd party voters back.

>>Americans favor amnesty 52% to 44% (ABC/Washington Post).

I think that is a very awkwardly worded poll.<<

And the Rasmussen poll, which seems to show that folks are solidly opposed to this Senate amnesty bill, was done twice with very consistent results.

One possibility that could explain the poll discrepancy is that some people know more about the Senate bill than the MSM thinks. Even people who are for some kind of amnesty should oppose this bill, which really goes beyond amnesty to legalize illegals before legitimate legal visa applicants, accept gang members, etc.

Another reason, which even the pro-amnesty WSJ admits, is that this bill has been tainted by the secret meetings and the attempt to push it through before anyone had time to read it.
