Even if what the RNC believes is true, it is still a large enough percentage to keep them out of power for generations.

The only theory I can come up with is that the RNC thinks that it can get a majority of the new voters by redefining the GOP as a christian-socialist party (which it really already is) that would run against the secular-socialist party (the Dems).

Under this model, small government conservatives would be relegated to a fringe group.

Americans favor amnesty 52% to 44% (ABC/Washington Post).

I think that is a very awkwardly worded poll. I have no doubts that most of the US citizens oppose mass round ups and most people probably think that amnesty is the only other alternative.

The part that is left out is that once the current set of illegals are given amnesty, then they will be unemployable as they will not work for below market wages.

In order to fill the void, the industries that (greedily) rely on illegals will have to import a new set to undercut the guest workers and new citizens.

It may pass the Senate where there aren't many GOP opponents of illegal immigration. But that's a different story in the House where the GOP caucus majority is adamantly against it. They'll enact amnesty - in their dreams.

The House is all about majority rules, though. They don't have to have 60% to bring a vote to the floor the way the Senate does.

There are a few parlimentary technicalities that the conservative members of the House can use, but not many. The sad fact of the matter is that the conservative members of the House of irrelevant in this debate due to their minority status.

To have a voice again, conservatives will have to be vote third party.

If conservatives would stop holding their nose and just voting for the republican just to keep the Democrat from winning, then the GOP would start caring about them again.

Guys like Kyl know that when it comes election time, he can say "I may not be the perfect candidate, but I'm better than the democrat" and the conservatives will vote for him anyway.

Our only hope is to vote 3rd party until either that party is strong enough to overtake the GOP or the GOP realizes that it can't win without luring the 3rd party voters back.

And the Rasmussen poll, which seems to show that folks are solidly opposed to this Senate amnesty bill, was done twice with very consistent results.

One possibility that could explain the poll discrepancy is that some people know more about the Senate bill than the MSM thinks. Even people who are for some kind of amnesty should oppose this bill, which really goes beyond amnesty to legalize illegals before legitimate legal visa applicants, accept gang members, etc.

Another reason, which even the pro-amnesty WSJ admits, is that this bill has been tainted by the secret meetings and the attempt to push it through before anyone had time to read it.
