Backers of Immigration Bill More Optimistic:Resistance Fading, Lawmakers Say [in their dreams]
Washington Post ^ | 6/4/07 | Jonathan Weisman

After a week at home with their constituents, the Senate architects of a delicate immigration compromise are increasingly convinced they will hold together this week to pass an overhaul of the nation's immigration laws, with momentum building behind one unifying theme: Today's immigration system is too broken to go unaddressed.

Congress's week-long Memorial Day recess was expected to leave the bill in tatters. But with a week of action set to begin today, the legislation's champions say they believe the voices of opposition, especially from conservatives, represent a small segment of public opinion. Sen. Jon Kyl (R-Ariz.), who led negotiations on the bill for his party, said the flood of angry calls and protests that greeted the deal two weeks ago has since receded every day.

"You just have to recognize you will get 300 calls, you'll get conflicts at town hall meetings -- all of them negative," said Rep. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.), who consulted with Kyl and hopes to carry a similar deal through the House in July. "The last few days have really turned things around."

Obviously the left leaning Washington Post has no stake in this amnesty bill!

We’re fighting a firearm mag ban here in IL House. If it isn’t the Feds, it’s the state, and then I have to watch the vermin overlords ruling Crook County.

Nativists, xenophobic/xenaphobes [Tony Snow, et al]

Bigots [Lindsey Graham]

Vigilantes [George W Bush]

"Misinformed" was the most false and offensive out of all the absurd labels cast upon the American people by their elected "leaders".

So, we are:

Nativists, xenophobic/xenaphobes [Tony Snow, et al]

Bigots [Lindsey Graham]

Vigilantes, unamerican and unpatriotic [George W Bush]

And now we represent a small segment of public opinion.

I guess Senator Kyl overlooked the recent poll that showed only 28% of those surveyed support the current amensty for illegals bill

And for those conservatives — if any — who don’t support the bill — where are they going to put their votes. The bill may not change a single vote.

This article, in my opinion, is nothing but a ruse, meant to dishearten those of us who think this amnesty is a done deal.

That may be the aim of the Washington comPost, but the quotes highlighted in this article can also serve as an inspiration for sustained/renewed action. The shamnesty boosters think that opposition will die down, and they take heart in early (supposed) evidence supporting that. Will patriots dash their hopes and keep the pressure on, or will complacency reign supreme, with resistance fading away as is hoped?

By the way things are looking, conservatives (sufferers of beaten-wife syndrome) are going to take yet another one for the "team". Anyone who thinks that the latest grassroots blitz against the destroy-America scheme was enough to make Congresscritters see the error of their ways is sadly mistaken - it is going to take MORE, lots more: if more is not provided, the amnesty bill will pass.

Kyl has truly been a puzzlement in this mess. What a turn-around...or is that turn-coat...he’s become.

Got this in an email:

A big earthquake with the strength of 8.1 on the Richter scale hits Mexico.
Two million Mexicans have died and over a million are injured.
The country is totally ruined and the government doesn’t know where to start with asking for help to rebuild.
The rest of the world is in shock.
Canada is sending troopers to help the Mexican army control the riots. Saudi Arabia is sending oil.
Other Latin American countries are sending supplies.
The European community is sending food and money.
The United States, not to be outdone, is sending two million replacement Mexicans.

God Bless America

Kyl has truly been a puzzlement in this mess. What a turn-around...or is that turn-coat...he’s become.

He got taken to the cleaners by Kennedy, and his pride won't allow him to consider that possibility.

Kennedy knows that the concession by the Republicans that the 10s of millions of illegals will be legalized and given a path to becoming voters is the WHOLE BALL GAME.

It doesn't matter to Kennedy if it takes 5 years or 10 years for these low-income, uneducated foreign nationals to become voters in large numbers. Because it is inevitable, the left-wing grass roots organizations will help them through the hurdles, and when it happens it is lights out for the conservatives. Anything given away by Kennedy now, like family reunification, can be taken back in a few years when the Rats "gots the power!"

I may be "a small segment of public opinion", but I have always contributed and voted GOP.

If this bill, or anything like it passes, I will NEVER contribute or vote GOP again. Never.

It really is time for every male citizen to ensure he has a good "assault weapon", 6 clips and 1000 rounds of ammo.

This government has so distanced itself from the electorate that one has to wonder if it's time to hang them all.

This brief excerpt from another thread says volumes:
In South Carolina last week during the congressional break, Sen. Lindsey Graham generally avoided crowds. Likewise Sen. Jon Kyl, back home in Arizona, scheduled no public appearances, instead huddling with party officials in Phoenix.
Sticking their head in the sand is not going to make us go away.

If anything, we need to UP the call/mail/email/fax volume to them this week.

Here's the loophole:
Article One, section 8 The Congress shall have Power To ......provide for calling forth the Militia to execute the Laws of the Union, suppress Insurrections and repel Invasions;

No State shall, without the Consent of Congress,......engage in War, unless actually invaded, or in such imminent Danger as will not admit of delay.

Here's the pledge:
<:--"I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States."

Where's the beef? Bush's ability, I guess. We don't need Congress or the President to repel an invasion or supress an insurection. Screw 'em both.

Do not donate to the NRP hold that money back. When Primary time comes write every RINO that votes for this bill and ask what good that did your state or district and that you want a reply or you will support his opponent and send your money to his campaign.

>>I guess Senator Kyl overlooked the recent poll that showed only 28% of those surveyed support the current amensty for illegals bill.<<

I doubt that the ABC/Washington Post poll even asked about the bill. So we are to believe that

Americans oppose the bill 48% to 26% (Rasmussen)

Americans favor amnesty 52% to 44% (ABC/Washington Post).

What's wrong with this picture?

The latter poll will give unscrupulous and/or delusional Senators an excuse to vote for the bill.

If anyone wants to have an impact on the debate, calling Congress will only go so far. What we need now is a “Macaca moment” on immigration.

Please go to campaign appearances, ask tough questions, and then publicize the responses. There are a few questions here:

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1835936/posts

Trust me on this: if enough people start asking very tough questions, and those are publicized, it will start to have an impact on the careers of those who back amnesty. Most of them will respond by backing off.

If you don’t want to go to campaign appearances, you can still help out online:
