Daughter Of JFK Terror Plot Suspect Freed On $50
WCBSTV.COM ^ | 17 JUNE 2007 | AP/CBS

Saudia Kadir Was Arrested On An Unrelated Weapons Possession Charge
(CBS/AP) GEORGETOWN, Guyana — The daughter of a man accused of plotting to blow up John F. Kennedy International Airport fuel lines is free on U.S. $50 bond following her unrelated detention on suspicion of weapons possession.
Sauda Kadir told The Associated Press early Sunday that police detained her after they saw photos taken last Christmas showing family members posing with toy guns. Kadir, 31, said she did not know how police obtained the pictures and declined further comment.
She was ordered to appear Tuesday at police headquarters for further questioning.
Sauda’s father, Abdul Kadir, was arrested earlier this month in Trinidad and Tobago and is one of four men accused of participating in a Muslim terror cell that planned to blow up a jet fuel artery feeding the New York airport.
Sauda Kadir is an assistant superintendent of national examinations at the Guyanese education ministry and studied Islamic theology in Iran.
Police detained her the same week they charged her two brothers, Kareem and Iqra Kadir, with illegal possession of ammunition. Both brothers are in jail without bond and are expected to have a hearing Tuesday regarding accusations of possessing a rifle round at their home, which local police and the FBI recently searched. Sauda Kadir does not live with them.
The men have pleaded not guilty. Relatives have said that previous searches yielded nothing and accused detectives of planting evidence, charges that police spokesman John Sauers has denied.
The elder Kadir, a former opposition legislator in Guyana, is being held in Trinidad with two other men until a hearing on a U.S. request for their extradition.

“35 killed in Kabul suicide bomb attack”
By Rahim Faiez for the Associated Press:
ARTICLE SNPPET: “KABUL, Afghanistan - The deadliest insurgent attack since the U.S.-led invasion of Afghanistan in 2001 destroyed a bus full of police instructors at Kabul’s busiest transportation hub on Sunday, killing 35 people and wounding 52, officials said.
The enormous suicide blast, which raised the specter of an increase in Iraq-style bombings with heavy casualties, was at least the fourth attack against a bus carrying Afghan police or army soldiers in Kabul in the last year.”
ARTICLE SNIPPET: “Zemeri Bashary, the spokesman for the Interior Ministry, said late Sunday that 35 were killed and 52 wounded in the blast. Karzai’s office said 22 police instructors died, indicating that 13 of the dead were civilians.”

“China arming terrorists”
New intelligence reveals China is covertly supplying large quantities of small arms and weapons to insurgents in Iraq and the Taliban militia in Afghanistan, through Iran.
U.S. government appeals to China to check some of the arms shipments in advance were met with stonewalling by Beijing, which insisted it knew nothing about the shipments and asked for additional intelligence on the transfers. The ploy has been used in the past by China to hide its arms-proliferation activities from the United States, according to U.S. officials with access to the intelligence reports.
Some arms were sent by aircraft directly from Chinese factories to Afghanistan and included large-caliber sniper rifles, millions of rounds of ammunition, rocket-propelled grenades and components for roadside bombs, as well as other small arms.
The Washington Times reported June 5 that Chinese-made HN-5 anti-aircraft missiles were being used by the Taliban.”

“NGO to Award $150,000 to Executor of Salman Rushdie”
ARTICLE SNIPPET: “TEHRAN (Fars News Agency)- An Iranian Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) announced that it would pay a $150,000 prize to anyone who could put into effect a death sentence decree issued by the Late Founder of the Islamic Republic, Imam Khomeini, against Salman Rushdie for blasphemy.
Secretary General of the Headquarters for Honoring the Martyrs of Islam World Movement Forouz Raja’ee-Far told FNA here on Sunday that his headquarters had announced in 2004 that it would pay $100,000 to anyone who could put into effect Imam Khomeini’s verdict and that after 3 years it has now raised the prize to $150,000.
Indian-born British author Salman Rushdie crushed Muslims’ sentiments and beliefs and sparked protests in Muslim countries around the world with his book The Satanic Verses. In 1989 the late Founder of the Islamic Republic Imam Khomeini issued a verdict of death sentence against him for blasphemy.
The move by the Iranian NGO follows a recent controversial move by the British Queen who awarded Rushdie with a knighthood.
Raja’ee-Far reminded that many world Muslims have voiced preparedness to exercise Imam Khomeini’s verdict since it was issued in 1989.
“And that’s why Salman Rushdie has been living with continued nightmares during all these 18 years,” he continued.”

“Police catch and escort TB patient to hospital
Judge orders man confined in San Antonio for treatment he had refused since April”
Beaumont Enterprise
PORT ARTHUR
ARTICLE SNIPPET: “Police picked up Lemone Yowman, 32, at a relative’s home so he could be taken by ambulance to San Antonio with a police escort, said Maj. John Owens of the Port Arthur Police Department.
A judge has ordered that Yowman be confined and undergo treatment at a San Antonio facility, according to court documents and a city official.
William George, a Port Arthur health official, told The Associated Press that the man, whom court documents identified as Yowman, does not carry the drug-resistant form of TB that created a recent international scare. Other officials said there is no search under way for anyone who might have come in contact with Yowman.
However, George said Yowman poses a public health threat and should be confined and treated immediately, according to court documents that The Beaumont Enterprise obtained Wednesday.”

“Guardsmen head to court in alien-smuggling case”
By Jerry Seper
THE WASHINGTON TIMES
June 18, 2007
ARTICLE SNIPPET: “The complaint said Sgt. Hodge assisted Pfc. Torres in passing through a Border Patrol checkpoint on I-35 without inspection. It said Sgt. Hodge approached Pfc. Torres’ vehicle “to make it appear that the two were conducting National Guard business.”
The three soldiers, according to the complaint, used cell-phone text messaging to negotiate the details, price and number of people who would be smuggled. A message that day from Sgt. Pacheco instructed Pfc. Torres that a trip was a go, with a promised payment of $3,500 for the delivery of 24 illegal aliens, the complaint said.
Sgt. Pacheco is accused in the complaint of recruiting the guardsmen to transport illegal aliens and paying $1,000 to $3,500 for each smuggling trip.”

Press Releases
“Libya Set to Head UN Anti-Racism Conference
Iran, Saudi Arabia, Russia also among 15-member bureau”
PRESS RELEASE SNIPPET: “Geneva, June 15, 2007 Libya is the sole candidate for the post of Chair of a United Nations anti-racism conference to be held in Geneva later this month, upsetting human rights groups who recalled the fatal consequences to the Commission on Human Rights when it chose Libya in 2003. According to diplomats, a meeting yesterday by the Human Rights Councils five regional groups also named Iran, Saudi Arabia, and Russia as among the 15 bureau members who will oversee preparatory deliberations for a 2009 gathering to follow up on the controversial Durban conference of 2001.
Some human rights groups are expressing alarm at the conference leadership, which is to be voted in before the June 25 session. Choosing Colonel Khaddafi to head a world anti-racism conference is like appointing a pyromaniac to be town fire chief, said Hillel Neuer, executive director of UN Watch, a human rights monitoring organization based in Geneva, Switzerland. How can a regime that consistently ranks as one of the most notorious violators of human rightsa government that sentenced to death five Bulgarian nurses and a Palestinian doctor only because they were foreigners and therefore easy scapegoatsbe charged with promoting fundamental principles of human dignity and equality?
The 2001 World Conference Against Racism that took place in Durban, South Africa, a few days before 9/11, was mired in controversy. The NGO Declaration said that Arabs were the victims of anti-Semitism and condemned Israel for its brand of apartheid and other racist crimes against humanity. During the conference, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Mary Robinson denounced the distribution of anti-Semitic cartoons by groups such as the Arab Lawyers Union. The United States and Israel walked out in the last days, with the conference described as a festival of hate by former Canadian Minister of Justice Irwin Cotler.
With Khaddafi as Chairsupported by the Wahhabist Saudi regime and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who was condemned by the UN General Assembly this year for his regimes discrimination against Arabs, Azeris, Baluchis, Bahai, Kurds and other minoritiesthe UN is dangerously on course to repeat the mistakes of the past, said Neuer.”

Release A070618a
Coalition Forces disrupt Secret Cell terrorist network
BAGHDAD, Iraq Coalition Forces killed at least 20 terrorists, wounded six suspected terrorists and detained one suspected terrorist during operations targeting Secret Cells operating in Amarah and Majjar al-Kabir.
The individuals detained during the raid is believed to be members of the secret cell terrorist network known for facilitating the transport of weapons and explosively formed penetrators, or EFPs, from Iran to Iraq, as well as bringing militants from Iraq to Iran for terrorist training.
In coordination with the Government of Iraq, Coalition Forces conducted coordinated raids in the Maysan province of eastern Iraq. During the mornings operations, Coalition Forces came under heavy small-arms fire and rocket-propelled grenade attacks in both Amarah and Majjar al-Kabir. Using appropriate escalation of force measures, ground forces were forced to use close air support to suppress the enemy fire. During the close air support, at least 20 terrorists were killed and six suspected terrorists were assessed to be wounded by the strafing. A vehicle being used by the terrorists as a fighting position was also destroyed by the close air support.
Intelligence reports indicate that both Amarah and Majjar al-Kabir are known safe havens and smuggling routes for Secret Cell terrorists who facilitate Iranian lethal aid. Reports further indicate that Iranian surrogates, or Iraqis that are liaisons for Iranian intelligence operatives into Iraq, use both Amarah and Majjar al-Kabir as safe haven locations.
Terrorists learned this morning that there is no safe haven in Iraq, said Lt. Col. Christopher Garver, MNF-I spokesperson. Coalition Forces will seek out and find terrorists anywhere and everywhere in Iraq.

Release A070618b
11 suspected VBIED cell members detained
BAGHDAD, Iraq Coalition Forces detained 11 suspected terrorists during operations Sunday and Monday to disrupt the al-Qaeda vehicle-borne improvised explosive device network in Baghdad.
Sunday, Coalition Forces conducted an operation to capture a suspected member of a VBIED cell active in Baghdad and Haditha. The assault force detained six suspected terrorists, including the target, whose network supports Syria-based extremists and provides suicide bombers, vehicles and explosives for the cell.
A Monday raid south of the city netted four suspected terrorists allegedly involved with the VBIED cell in Baghdad. Coalition Forces captured another individual within the city limits suspected of association with a smuggling ring known for bringing bomb-making materials into Iraq.
Disrupting the bombing network in Baghdad is a high priority for us, and we will continue to target the cells leaders and members, said Lt. Col. Christopher Garver, MNF-I spokesperson.

Explosion Hits Tajik Supreme Court, No One Hurt
Tajik Supreme Court after explosion on June 16
(RFE/RL)
DUSHANBE, June 16, 2007 (RFE/RL) — An explosion went off near the Supreme Court building in Tajikistan’s capital, Dushanbe, RFE/RL’s Tajik Service reported.
No one was hurt in the blast, which smashed windows and damaged a fence at the court building.
The city’s chief prosecutor, Kurbonali Mukhabbatov, said “terrorists” may be behind the attack, which he said was “aimed at intimidation.”
Today’s blast is the latest in a series of explosions that Tajik authorities have blamed on a group known as the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan.
The government also blamed the group for two blasts, in January and June 2005, that rocked the Emergency Ministry’s building.
Exactly one year ago, on June 16, 2006, three small explosions occurred in different places of Dushanbe, but no one was hurt.
A civil war between Islamist guerillas and the secular government killed more that 100,000 from 1992-97.
Despite a peace deal, the country remains volatile and flooded with weapons.
