10 Pakistani Navy sailors go AWOL during rare Tokyo goodwill port call
At least 10 Pakistani sailors ditched their crews and apparently went absent without leave in Tokyo during a rare goodwill visit to Japan by two of the country’s naval ships on a training cruise, an official said Friday.
A Pkistani Navy destroyer (right) and a supply ship are seen docked at Harumi Wharf in Tokyo on Thursday.
“They went out for sightseeing and then they disappeared,” a Pakistan Embassy official said on condition of anonymity, citing protocol. “We’ve asked (authorities) to apprehend them so they can be deported to Pakistan for violation of the law.” (snip)

Threat forces UC Riverside to cancel graduation ceremonies
RIVERSIDE, Calif. The University of California, Riverside, canceled final exams and a graduation ceremony Friday evening after finding a homemade firebomb on campus and receiving two threatening letters.
“The campus is taking the threat seriously,” school officials said in a statement released late Friday afternoon.
School officials decided to take action after groundskeepers found two plastic bottles that possibly contained flammable liquid near a burning palm tree outside the Life Sciences building around 5:25 a.m., said campus Police Chief Mike Lane.
Another suspicious device was found hidden in a planter near that building three hours later, and two handwritten, threatening letters were received in the afternoon, Lane said.
The second letter “reiterated a threat against tonight’s commencement,” he said. (snip)

“’Honour killing’ sister breaks her silence”
By HELEN WEATHERS - More by this author »Last updated at 01:18am on 16th June 2007
Britain was appalled by the horrific ‘honour killing’ of a girl murdered by her father for daring to kiss the man she loved.
Here, her sister, who narrowly escaped death herself and now lives in fear of her life, breaks her silence.
Every time Bekhal Mahmod leaves the safety of her home, she wears the hijab with a black veil covering her face - even though she would give anything for the freedom not to have to.”
