:::FreeRepublic's Threat Matrix:::
British Intelligence: Al-Qaida Expanding
-Full Story-

British intelligence officials said they believe that al-Qaida has a secure base in Pakistan's Waziristan region and is planning terrorist operations.

The group is reaching out to Muslims in North Africa, The Telegraph reported. Last year, the Salafist Group for Preaching and Combat, an Algerian terrorist group, merged itself into al-Qaida, a move announced by Osama bin Laden's chief lieutenant, Ayman al-Zawahiri, in a tape promising action against the "apostates" in the Algerian government and "the treacherous sons of France."

Al-Qaida is also believed to be planning expansion into Lebanon and Syria, the newspaper report said.

“Unfortunately, there are many other plots going on concurrently.”

Ditto.

“U.S. ‘Comfortable’ With Current Terror Alert Status, Chertoff Says”
Sunday, July 01, 2007

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “”Certainly it seems a reasonable possibility that it’s either Al Qaeda or people who are associated with Al Qaeda or sympathetic to Al Qaeda,” Chertoff said. “I don’t think again we can be definitive about whether this is a plot that was directed from Al Qaeda central so to speak, or whether it reflects what we sometimes call homegrown terrorism.””

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “In the U.S., the Transportation Security Administration is posting more agents outside terminals at some airports, White House spokesman Tony Snow said.

“There will be some inconvenience of passengers in terms of longer wait times,” Snow said. Local police also may take separate measures, he added.

Police stepped up curbside patrols with canine units at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport in Georgia. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which operates Newark Liberty in New Jersey and John F. Kennedy and LaGuardia airports in New York, took “a number of measures as we always do to respond to security situations immediately,” spokesman Steve Coleman said.

At Los Angeles International Airport, additional police, including canine units, were on duty Saturday, said spokesman Marshall Lowe. Operations at Miami International Airport went on heightened alert through at least July 4, and in Philadelphia officials were increasing patrols around the perimeter of the airport.

At Washington’s Reagan National and Dulles International airports, spokesman Ron Yingling said some measures are behind the scenes. “I don’t think there’s anything different in what passengers have to physically do to get through security that’s different from yesterday.”

Bush, who spent the day biking and fishing at the Bush family compound in Kennebunkport, Maine, was kept abreast of the developments in Britain, Snow said. U.S. officials were in contact with their counterparts in Europe, Snow said.”

Stevens says al Qaeda’s Iraq tactics now in UK
Sat Jun 30, 2007 10:56PM BST (snipped)

LONDON (Reuters) - The foiled car-bomb plot in London shows al Qaeda has imported the tactics of Iraqi and Indonesian militants to Britain, the prime minister’s top terrorism adviser said on Saturday. “Make no mistake, this weekend’s bomb attacks signal a major escalation in the war being waged on us by Islamic terrorists,” John Stevens, the former commissioner of the London police, wrote in an article to be published in the News of the World on Sunday.

“Initially it was believed the main problem police faced was insulated groups of home-grown extremists. But now it is clear a loose but deadly network of interlinked operational cells has developed. “The terror of July 7 (2005) was awful enough, but now al-Qaeda has imported the tactics of Baghdad and Bali to our streets. And it will get worse before it gets better.” . . .

London’s top counter-terrorism officer said the planned attack bore similarities to another plot, uncovered in 2004, in which an al Qaeda militant planned to detonated gas-fuelled bombs hidden in limousines across London. The rash of incidents comes nearly exactly two years after the July 7th attacks, when four suicide bombers carried out coordinated blasts on London’s transport system, killing 52.

Stevens said there was the possibility that al Qaeda “Mr. Bigs” were operating in Britain and said the seeds of Muslim terrorism had begun to sprout. “The involvement, influence and even leadership of al Qaeda veterans both from abroad but also now on the ground in Britain has grown significantly,” he wrote. “It is a sign of the new maturity and sophistication of al Qaeda in Britain that they have moved to this car bomb style campaign.”

Stevens said anti-terrorist police and the domestic security agency MI5 would have to work hard to follow the links in the chain before more militants struck again. “And make no mistake — strike again they will,” he wrote.

My thoughts that these events were just a greeting to the new PM and a gentle nudge to keep the pressure up on the UK to pull out of Iraq.

I do no think that the islamofacists would risk real attacks when they are close to their goal of achieving
the removal of Infidels from Iraq through the ballot
box in both the UK and United States.

All bets would be off though after November 2008.

Thanks for the ping Ian. I figured they’d be more. Just got back home and saw about the LEOs blowing up a car at the hospital. There will probably be more to come. I have a feeling this ain’t over.

Was at High Point Restaurant having breakfast this morning when the power went out. Thought to myself this may be another attack, but then the power came back on. I really really hope we don’t have any attacks in the U.S, but we might.

I would have replied sooner, but Clyde nudged my arm and I spilled a glass of wine on my friends keyboard. Just replaced it.

Pulled everything out of the truck and re-packed, re-stocked, and re-organized everything. As ExSoldier has said, in the event of an attack do not become a refugee. If at all possible, stay home. You’ll be safest there. IF you do have to evacuate, it should take no more an 15 minutes.

Everyone should be prepared by now. Any last minute preparations should be completed as of todays end.

Increased vigilance is now key. If in a mall or other large building, ALWAYS be aware of where the exits are. Anyone with a CCW should be carrying and aware of their surroundings at ALL times. If you see anything out of the ordinate, leave the area and report it.

Please stay safe everyone. We could be in for a nasty ride.

After hearing about the terrorist training camp ‘graduation’ and subsequent dispatch of the graduates to carry out their evil plans, the fact that these vermin were not British doesn’t surprise me.

A couple of things I am curious about and do worry about:

If they are some of the ‘graduates’, how’d they enter the country so easily?

With our porous southern border, how many of these graduates are already here?

On the bright side, these scum were not well trained. The 2 VBIEDs in London failed to detonate. As far as the reports I’ve seen, the scum who rammed Glasgow Airport succeeded in hurting/killing no one but themselves. Haven’t seen too many reports about the vehicle the LEOs detonated at the hospital.

Something else positive:
Doesn’t seem these scum can find too many folk in Britain willing to kill themselves for their false god and his pedophile prophet. Seems the muzzie scum in Britain have a better life and a bit more to live for then their kindred scum in the ME.

Still, we need to maintain our increased vigilance. The next attempts may be here.

>> Thanks for the reminders. <<

You’re welcome Palladin. As fate would have it, at this time I have internet access and the time and place to re-supply and re-organize.

Do take precautions and take care. Britain is at critical alert. The only reason the DHS hasn’t raised our alert to Orange is they don’t want to scare the sheeple right before the 4th’s celebrations. Too much money to make and what’s a few sheeple lives anyway.

I’ll guarantee, our LEOs are at RED alert and will be until the 4th is over.

I have plently of supplies (food, ammo, gear) and am in a very good location if anything goes down.

“NOT British.”

Thanks for the update.

Not surprising, but RR, it’s a global jihad... so it doesn’t change the field at all.
You know, jihad, another day.

Mr. RR is scheduled to fly home from Frankfurt tomorrow. I’m a bit concerned about Germany, too.

Prayers up for all our FR travelers.

Thanks for the Heathrow reports Ian. Saw the one about JFK as well.

Kill one, scare ten thousand - that’s what terrorism is all about.

We can expect more false alarms in the near future, but I’d rather see the false alarms than a causal attitude followed by thousands of dead and wounded.

While we should (and have it seems) increased our vigilance, we need to avoid knee-jerk and panic reactions. Stay calm. Quickly evaluate your situation and act accordingly.
