Peggy Noonan isn’t our President, and neither is Newt Gingrich.

” we will doubtless try to hammer out how Romans 12 meshes with the rest of scripture on justice, mercy, and how being illegal affects them as Christians. Thanks”

Better take Romans 13 into special consideration. (Submission to the authorities) They will be judged for those sins.

sorry, hit a 2 and meant three, and never even picked it up. you know what I meant. It is interesting that the Nazis and the Communists, who neither knew nor cared anything for the bible, were absolute bulldogs for Romans 13. I am assuming that in acknowledging the authority of Romans 13, you acknowledge that the state rules ON BEHALF OF GOD, and that when it weilds the sword for its own benefit, and not to punish evildoers, that Christians have both a duty and obligation to engage in revolution against tyranny?

“Please jveritas look at the history “

That’s what we’ve been telling this person for a thousand posts now. I believe you are arguing with a paid internet propagandist here. They are the only ones who can afford to post 24/7 because they don’t have real jobs.

jveritas says he’s going to become a citizen soon. I seriously doubt that. I don’t think he could pass the History part of the citizenship exam.

Just a passing question: Do you turn yourself in when you break the speed limit?

Do you ever take the position that "this speed limit is ridiculously slow, and I will drive at a safe and cautious speed, even if it exceeds the posted limit"?

Have you ever done any work "off the books" or on "contract" and failed to include that in your yearly income taxes?

The above question assumes you are w-2 paid and your employer is the federal bagman. If not, do you report all your received moneys?

Have you ever "bartered" for something, like put in a field line for a carpenter, who then fixed your door? The IRS claims ALL transactions like this are reportable income. Do you report them?

In many states all personal property items in a MULTITUDE of areas are subject to special taxes. 4 wheeleers, jon boats, dogs, special tools above a certain price limit, etc, etc. Do you know what these laws are,and do you seek to comply, or are you happy to remain in possible disobedience to the recognized authorities?

Are all of your firearms registered properly? Do you know what these laws are in your municipality, state, etc. Have you made sure that everyone knows what you have who is "legally entitled" to know?

Do you have more than one copy of MS Windows on more than one machine? Have you ever copied the cab files (back B4 XP) onto more than one machine?

Is all your shareware paid for?

Do you have any bootleg software on your machine that was "just given" to you by someone else?

Do you ever copy movies off the TV for VHS personal use?

Do ou ever TIVO them?

(Sorry, I am sure there are a bunch more for TV, but we don't own a TV, so I am not sure what the latest craze is.)

Have you or your wife ever "borrowed" prescription medication from a friend because you were: nervous/in pain/depressed/unable to sleep/ etc etc.

Have you ever failed to declare items that should be taxed when coming back in to the US border?

Helping me with those questions will provide a great backdrop on how seriously you truly take Romans 13 (and I Peter 2).

No! But I have trespassed and was shot at. Luckily, they missed and I never went back.

Your *friends* might not be so lucky.

BTW: If your going to preach to me , you must change your name to *Holier Than Thou* then, maybe, I’ll answer your questions.

Actually, I HATE preachy legalistic Christians. I actually could give a rip what your answers are. I am most decidedly UNholier than just about anyone I know, and am not motivated to get into a contest with you or anyone else about it. The questions were, of course, rhetorical, and designed to show that (again) we assign levels of seriousness to different areas of Lawkeeping (as Jesus mocked the pharisees for tithing garden veggies but neglecting the "weightier matters of the law").

I do believe we need a combination of 1) enhanced border security 2) confirmation of legal status for those legally here 3) expanded immigration opportunities 4) recognition of the basic humanity, responsibility and human rights of those here as we figure out exactly who stays and who goes, and 5) merciful and just expulsion of those who cannot stay.

PS. I am glad they missed!

“but neglecting the “weightier matters of the law”).”

Jesus was right, of course. IMO, the invasion of a sovereign country by a group of individuals intent on ravaging it’s resources and wealth through fraud and intimedation, can not be permitted. (let’s leave Iraq out of the equation)

I agree with your proposals but, why the “confirmation of legal status for those legally here”?

You don’t seriously think We want to kick out legal Hispanics or any other legal group, do you? (BTW; are you from Turkey/Albania?) (based on a reference to your screen name)

the invasion of a sovereign country by a group of individuals intent on ravaging it’s resources and wealth through fraud and intimedation, wanting to provide for their families... can not be permitted.

There, fixed it for ya. Still true, btw. We need to get control of our borders.

why the “confirmation of legal status for those legally here”?

because the mass deportation of 12-20 million persons (no one really has a clue how many are here!) would cause economic disruptions, misery, starvation, and human suffereing like we cannot fathom. Again, it is like deciding what to do when your daughter says "dad, I am pregnant" and she is not married (thank God this has never happened to me, it is just an illustration). A lecture on the evils of fornication is not at the top of the list, here. Many of these people have been here for YEARS and the thought of them walking away from jobs, homes, cars, an tons of other "entanglements" and just dumping them at the border is neither just, nor wise, nor compassionate, nor desireable.

You don’t seriously think We want to kick out legal Hispanics or any other legal group, do you?

No, I don't believe that. We differ (I would guess) primarily over how SERIOUS the crime (and it is a crime) jumping the border is, and what the appropriate penalty for doing so is. I see no reason why the result should be automatic expulsion, any more than I see why the penalty for speeding should be forfeiture of your automobile. Again, I don't expect you will agree with me, but I need to say (over and over, it seems) that the alternative to "lock down the border and expell them all" is NOT simply to "let em all in and throw em on welfare because we don't care about law and we are leftoids who worship the concept of Aztan" That is a straw man, yet it is dragged out and waved menacingly every single time I have been in a conversation here on immigration. So, if that false dichotomy is NOT lurking right under your conversations, waiting to surface and confront me, I will apologize in advance, sincerely and humbly.

As to my screen, it comes from Polycarp, the disciple of John, who was killed for his faith and joked with his murderers before they killed him, mocking their threats, but being funny about it at the same time. He was a phenomenally brave man and I hope to die as well as he did. You can find his story (I believe it to be a bit embellished) in FOXE'S BOOK OF MARTYRS

I am not from Turkey or Albania. My folks all came to America from Northern Ireland to escape debtor's prison about 200 years ago. Nothing much has changed, it seems.

why the “confirmation of legal status for those legally here”?

just re-looked at the question. Sorry. The reason is we need to have a way to distinguish between those legally here an illegally here. I have reluctantly come to support aggressive fines for hiring illegals, if we can figure out a way to verify status for those legally here (a work permit card????). I am libertarian, but I do live in the real world. I just want it to be EASY for employers and not some new boondoggle that is half-thought through and unenforceable.
