That's what Stephen Hayes is reporting in the Weekly Standard and Mike Allen in Politico. Last night I attended an off-the-record American Spectator dinner with Thompson and his wife, Jeri; George Will and Robert Novak were also there. I'm not supposed to say what was said there, but nothing I heard inclined me to think that Hayes and Allen have gotten it wrong. Thompson's exploratory committee will go into action June 4, collecting money and hiring staffers.

I think he’s very appealing. He’s intelligent, charming and yet, straight-talking. He’s got gorgeous blue eyes. You might be surprised at how many people, male or female, like the idea of an older, more mature president. Go Fred!

Thompson better get in physical shape quickly or recruit a expert Holywood makeup artist. He is presently flaccid, overweight and generally physically unappealing. And that southern drawl may not be so appealing northwards and westwards outside of Tennessee.
I seem to recall a certain former governor of Arkansas about 15 years ago had the same "baggage"...too fat, southern drawl won't work, etc. Didn't seem to hurt HIM too much.

Apparently I’m not as bright as you. Deciphering the complexities of political stategies is far beyond my limited capacity for comprehension. ‘Cuz I’d just tell him to fish or cut bait.

They would kick some serious Liberal @ss. ;) You know, I really think the next election will go to the strongest GOP LEADER that emerges from the fray.
Thanks to President Bush, actually. Many say that he’s ruined the GOP, but I think those of us that were his ‘Base’ are ‘Ready to Rumble’ behind a true Conservative after these past eight years of minor achievements and major disappointments.
I know I am. :)

Fred Thompson is five years older than Hillary and Mitt and younger than Duncan Hunter and Ron Paul.

I think we need a warrior to lead us in this war .
It is going to be a long long war .
Duncan Hunter is the true warrior , of all the candidates
of either party .
Notice has understated he is about it .
That’s the true sign of a great warrior.

Fred’s been “in” for a couple of months, at least. The “official announcement”, I fear, may end up being anticlimactic. However, Fred knows all about show business, and he may come up with a really clever vehicle for his announcement. It wouldn’t surprise me.
