Sears Apologizes for Booting Officers

Sears corporate officials have apologized to two police officers who were told to leave the retailer's store at a Des Moines mall because their uniforms distracted the store's security guards.
Officers Richard Glade and David Coy said they were kicked out of the Sears store in Merle Hay Mall in separate incidents this month.
"They told me that while I was in the store, I'd probably interfere with thefts they were monitoring," Coy said. "I said, 'Well, that's great.' She said, 'No, it's not,' and that they paid people to monitor that activity."
Kimberly Freely, a Sears spokeswoman at the company's headquarters in Hoffman Estates, Ill., described the episode as a case of mistaken identity.
"Our store management was attempting to address an ongoing issue of excessive socialization between mall security officers and store associates, which had been hampering associates' productivity," Freely said in a statement. "In no way was this an attempt to prevent on- or off-duty officers from shopping at our store."
Glade said he joined his wife at the store to buy a dishwasher when he was kicked out Monday. Glade said he asked for permission to take his morning break and went to Sears to help his wife shop.
"I don't think I was in the store for three minutes when I was asked to leave," he said.
"The guy was grinning the whole time he was asking me to leave. He said I was a deterrent to the store. Then he threw me out."
The Glades decided to buy the dishwasher elsewhere.

"I have installed plenty Kenmore dishwashers."I didn't think they still made Kenmore. I have installed a lot of Whirlpool and a few GE dishwashers. I might talk to the Sears guy and get on his list.

Now that you mention it, it has been awhile since I saw one. Of course, health issues took me out of the biz 4 years ago.

A long time ago I was sent to be the Army veterinarian on an Air Force base, and my wife and I went to the local Sears in Grand Forks to get a washer and dryer. I filled out all the paperwork to get a Sears card and a credit application for the machines, but the next day the manager of Sear's credit department called me up and accused me of trying to commit fraud, i.e.: there are no veterinarians in the military, no Army personnel on Air Force bases, etc.
They eventually straightened it out, but we ended up getting a used set at a yard sale instead. To this day, even if my life depends on it, I don't do Sears.

I feel like I'm taking crazy pills. I would think that a store would want thefts deterred. Period.

Nope. It was a reaction to a post about someone hanging on to the edge of the cliff with their fingers. I signed up moments later and it just made sense. Weird but true.

Sears should be ashamed. Besides many security people are backed up, yes, real police.

K-Mart is a chain I’ve hated for years. I do very little shopping at Sears since K-Mart bought them.
Any time they get bad press, it’s probably deserved.

The trouble with today is those great names in the pass have been taken over by the X generations and most of those barracudas have no knowledge or the honor and integrity of those men from the silent generation and how they did business!
Those great companies are nothing but an empty shells of what they use to be!
