Let's say I break into your house...

Let's say I break into your house.

A lady wrote the best letter in the Editorials in ages!!! It explains things better than all the baloney you hear on TV.

Her point:

Recently large demonstrations have taken place across the country protesting the fact that Congress is finally addressing the issue of illegal immigration. Certain people are angry that the US might protect its own borders, might make it harder to sneak into this country and, once here, to stay indefinitely.

Let me see if I correctly understand the thinking behind these protests. Let's say I break into your house. Let's say that when you discover me in your house, you insist that I leave.

But I say, "I've made all the beds and washed the dishes and did the laundry and swept the floors. I've done all the things you don't like to do. I'm hard-working and honest (except for when I broke into your house).

According to the protesters: You are Required to let me stay in your house You are Required to add me to your family's insurance plan You are Required to Educate my kids You are Required to Provide other benefits to me & to my family (my husband will do all of your yard work because he is also hard-working and honest, except for that breaking-in part).

If you try to call the police or force me out, I will call my friends who will picket your house carrying signs that proclaim my RIGHT to be there.

It's only fair, after all, because you have a nicer house than I do, and I'm just trying to better myself. I'm a hard-working and honest person, except for well, you know, I did break into your house. And what a deal it is for me!!!

I live in your house, contributing only a fraction of the cost of my keep, and there is nothing you can do about it without being accused of cold, uncaring, selfish, prejudiced, and bigoted behavior.

Oh yeah, I DEMAND that you learn MY LANGUAGE!!! so you can communicate with me.

Why can't people see how ridiculous this is?! Only in America.

If you agree, pass it on (in English). Share it if you see the value of it. If not - blow it off......... along with your future Social Security funds, and a lot of other things.

I'd say you are dead in the next second because my Glock will be greeting you.

Nevertheless, I'd never seen it before--and I am no internet nube (in fact, I've almost certainly been using it far longer than you have.) And if I've not seen it before, then it's highly probable that there is a significant population of Freepers/FR-Lurkers who haven't seen it before, either.

"Let's say I broke into your house"?

Then you are a dead man! I won't wait for the police, I won't call for help, I will kill you where you stand, and not lose a wink of sleep for it.

I did not initiate the cause of your death, you did. You violated my home, where my family lives and sleeps. You came into my home and tried to rob, rape, or murder my loved ones. You try that and you will die. My ultimate responsibility to my family is to love and, most importantly, protect them, with my own life if necessary.

You may even shot me, but as God is my witness, you will die with me.

THIS HOUSE PROTECTED BY SMITH & WESSON, and don't you ever forget it.

Maybe I should change that sticker in my window to read; "THIS HOUSE PROTECTED BY SMITH & WESSON AND A VIET NAM VET ARMY RANGER! (I'll kill anything that moves)!

What do you think?

I think you didn't read the article, and/or don't know what it's about.

Here's my analogy.

I didn't go to law school and never took the bar exam. I've decided, however, to start practicing law. I'm a clever sort of guy and I have a couple of degrees so I'm sure I can handle the challenge,

I know it's against the law to practice law without a license but it's a better way to make a living than what I've been doing.

I'm only going to violate this one law and once I do it, I will be in a much better position to make a living. Other than that, I'm a law abiding citizen and so is my brother who always wanted to be a brain surgeon.

BINGO!

Almost daily on FR the last 8 years, on the internet for the last 12, and I'd never seen it before.

She forgot the part where they insist that it’s actually THEIR house that you stole from them in the first place.

I always thought it'd be fun to be an airline pilot!

Likewise, been on the internet since Prodigy. Started with a Mac 512k and I never saw this very good analogy/illustration.

Regardless of how long this has been around, seems this is a valid question for Sen. McCain, Kennedy,Martinez et al who support the ILLEGAL immigration bill.

When it comes to “their house”, seems the rules are different. If they won’t agree to let a family who ILLEGALLY moved into their home....perhaps when they were on the campaign trail...remain in the house when they return from their travels, why should people who came ILLEGALLY into America, my home, be able to remain and given rewards.

imho, think ‘issues’ need to brought to level where people can PERSONALLY relate...see how it affects their everyday life.

The author is describing squatters. America has been dealing with squatters since the Republic was young. The issue is described in Hernando De Soto’s book, “The Mystery of Capital, why capitalism works in the west and nowhere else.” But those squatters belonged here. Illegals don’t.

I've only been on FR for 3 years, but I've been on the internet almost from the point that algore invented the thing, and I haven't seen this one yet either.

Well, that's not entirely true. I've been using it since it was commercially available. I wasn't around during the ARPANet days.

Am I the sole owner of this hypothetical house, or am I a co-owner who can only take action in concert with the other co-owners, according to the covenant that was signed when the house was built?
