A German bricklayer, who accused his girlfriend of liking her pet guinea pig more than him, killed the pet and turned it into a “romantic” dinner for two.

Lara Hochner, 23, from Darmstadt only found out what had happened when she went to her beloved pet Rudi after the candle-lit meal, to make sure he had enough food and water.

When she realised he was not there, her 29-year-old boyfriend Werner Brenner admitted that the couple had just eaten the animal.

That would be animal cruelty. Even if they do like dark, confined spaces.

Guinea pigs are lagamorphs like rabbits, picas and conies

Not true. Guinea pigs are rodents.

From wikipedia:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guinea_pigs

Guinea pigs are large for rodents, weighing between 1 and 2.5 pounds (700–1200 g), and measuring 8–10 inches (20–25 cm) long.[24] They typically live an average of four to five years, and occasionally as long as eight years.[25] According to the 2006 Guinness Book of Records the longest living guinea pig survived 14 years, 10.5 months.[26]

In the 1990s, a minority scientific opinion emerged proposing that caviomorphs, such as guinea pigs, chinchillas and degus, are not actually rodents and should be reclassified as a separate order of mammals (similar to lagomorphs).[27][28] Subsequent research using wider sampling has restored consensus among mammalian biologists that the current classification of rodents as monophyletic is justified.[29]

How much noise does a guinea pig make?

They squeal and whistle quite loudly really, hence the "pig" part of their name. However they are diurnal, so one ought to be sleeping at night.

"I had a guinea pig when I was a kid. Had to give it away when for no good reason I became allergic to it. *sigh*"

Next time get a Lab. I have two and they don't make me sneeze.

I have a Jack Russell Terrier and three cats. It was sneezing, it was skin reactions.

"Guinea pigs are rodents."

They look like rats to me so I wouldn't eat one with any sort of vegetable or wine. But that is just me.

This story confirms the wisdom of her preference.

Gee, they used to be so pretty when they were children! But that’s true of most of us, I suppose.

Skin reaction. Got it. Allergys usually involve sneezing. I'll know better next time.

Sounds like she didn’t mind the guinea pig noise and he hated it. So he got revenge on her before splitting up (what? you think he expected her to stick with him after that). What a hate filled jerk. I could, on the other hand, understand an April Fool prank where he temporarily put the animal in another cage out in the garage and served her a stewed hare.

How much noise does a guinea pig make?

I don't know if they are afraid of the dark or not, but they seem to make a lot of noise at night. Perhaps the bricklayer should have tried a nightlight.

In the wild, they would be stupid to scream, they’d become the prey of owls and such. Maybe the problem was too much light, the reflections of auto headlights and such, rather than too little.

Most of the small caged pets rustle around a bit at night, something you get used to after a short while of owning them. Not sure if guinea pigs are one of the nocturnal types tho.

They are also one of the more vocal small pets...they have a very distinctive, hmm how to explain this, almost whistling squeal. It’s not loud but it’s a very unusual sound and seems to have about the same variation and uses as a cat’s meows.
