A new generation of scientific mavericks is not content to merely tinker with life's genetic code.
Newsweek International ^ | June 4, 2007 issue | Lee Silver

June 4, 2007 issue - It last happened about 3.6 billion years ago. a tiny living cell emerged from the dust of the Earth. It replicated itself, and its progeny replicated themselves, and so on, with genetic twists and turns down through billions of generations. Today every living organism—every person, plant, animal and microbe—can trace its heritage back to that first cell.

"You keep bringing this up as if we are descended from modern fish. The last time I looked at schematic tree of life, current fish were listed as cousins, not ancestors."

A red herring complaint. Evolutionists claim that Fish came before Man in lineage. Your diversion is that "modern" Fish didn't spawn little men, but that's not germane. Ancient or modern implies that you have proof of some important genetic distinction that is relevant to the above point that all known Fish are missing important immune genes that ancient coral and modern Man both posses to this day.

Yet you have no such genetic evidence regarding ancient or modern Fish (even though you keep reeling both up).

Dear child. I know you are clever enough to understand the difference between a cousin and an ancestor.

Can’t get to Man without passing through a Fish on the Evolutionists’ tree of life...

Is there some rule that genetic material may only be added, not deleted?

I know that you are clever enough to know that all Evolutionists hold that the path to Man on the tree of life passes through Fish.

"Is there some rule that genetic material may only be added, not deleted?"

How can you delete what was never there?

No fish has ever been identified as having the immune genes that ancient Coral and modern Man share.

You're quite safe there. We do not have, and almost certainly never will have, DNA from fish that are actually ancestral to humans. I'm sure you are clever enough to know the difference between cousins and ancestors.

And yet, Fish as a species are ancestral to Humans.

The idea that only God can create life is arguably even more fundamental to Judeo-Christian dogma than the 17th-century notion that Earth was at the center of the universe.

Hm. Well, maybe ... but I don't think so. The author seems to be confusing "can" and "should." Judeo-Christian dogma is far more concerned with the latter.

You couldn’t even list these shared genes.

It may be of interest to you to know that coral, fish, and humans share other genes related to the immune system.

In the process of evolution it is fairly common for a species to ditch a trait that was present originally. For instance, snakes and legless lizards have independently lost their legs. Cave-dwelling species often lose genes related to sight. An article that came out recently showed that early fish have a pattern of Hox gene expression in the fins that is the same as the pattern of expression in tetrapod’s forelimbs, yet the later bony fish (the ones whose genes you speak of) have lost this gene expression pattern.

This is another example of secondary loss of a trait.

"In the process of evolution it is fairly common for a species to ditch a trait that was present originally."

The problem with such a view is that no one can find evidence of the immune genes in question ever being in Fish.

Difficult to ditch a trait that one never possessed...

"And yet, they aren’t."

Correct... if you are a proponent of Intelligent Design, but incorrect if you subscribe to the ridiculous theory of Evolution...since Evolutionists hold, per the tree of life diagram in post #31 above, that "Fishes" are the sole path to Homo Sapiens (and all mammals, for that matter).

Your diagram is sloppy. There are at least five major groups of fish. The bony fish, class Osteichthyes, appeared late and are not our direct ancestors. They are cousins. Therefore, we are not descended from the bony fish, and their missing certain genes or possibly having others is irrelevent to our inheritance.

Are you going to wail and cry in sackcloth and ashes if these traits are found in the jawless or cartilaginous fishes? I doubt it, denial can be impervious to evidence.

Correction: Should be the ray-finned fish, Actinopterygii, not Osteichthyes.

"Your diagram is sloppy."

That's not my diagram. I'm simply reposting a tree of life diagram that was promoted by Evolutionists back in the 1960's.

To get to Mammals on that diagram, you must first go through "Fishes."

You've identified no other Evolutionary path to the contrary, by the way (nor can you).
