Open Letter to Dr. James Dobson
Colorado Right to Life ^ | May 23, 2007 | Brian Rohrbough

Posted on 05/28/2007 8:24:02 AM PDT by Quiet Man Jr.

America has killed twenty million children during this long distraction, all in pursuit of a ban that from the beginning Never Had The Authority To Prevent Even A Single Abortion. Dr. Dobson, you and these other leaders needed to warn Christians of all this, but instead you joined together in calling evil good. Please stop foisting onto the church the falsehood that this gruesome ruling will "protect children." This decision, to use your word, is more "Naziesque" than the PBA it regulates.

This wicked ruling does not even prohibit aborting partially born children. It is not a ban, but a partial-birth abortion manual. These "pro-life Justices" give instructions on what can be called Navel Birth Abortion, only a four-inch variation from a textbook PBA. Steps from the ruling:

1) The abortionist may partially deliver the unborn child all the way to the bellybutton, but not "past the navel." 2) Then "a leg might be ripped off," etc. to "kill the fetus." 3) Or alternatively, "find... less shocking methods to abort..."

What a mockery of the goodwill of rank-and-file pro-lifers...

This is posted because there seems to be confusion about the Court's ruling and the open letter.

I don’t get it - does Dobson now advocate partial birth abortion?

This letter seems incoherent, and since when has James Dobson failed to stand up for pro-life legislation?

Dr. Dobson probably had good intentions, but it appears that he and numerous other pro-lifers didn’t read the decision. Unfortunately, even after the horrible flaws were pointed out, he and others continue to praise it.

The Supreme Court of the Universe will ultimately rule against the wicked murderous schemes of all baby killers.

Nice work, Colorado "Self-Righteous"-to-Life. The Idiot Left and the Baby-Killers just love it when Christians attack each other because every action or position by another Christian doesn't meet the "I'm As Perfect As Jesus And You're Not" smell test.

This backbencher has not accomplished a tiny fraction of what James Dobson has. How frequently we hear the mewlings of his type against his betters. Everyone with a brain knows that the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban is just the beginning... the chink in the armor that will be an inestimable help to those who truly seek the end of abortion, not just to see their names in the paper.

I agree wholeheartedly. As much as we would like Roe v. Wade overturned yesterday, that isn't how our judiciary works. Conservative justices in particular will not come out and overturn a longstanding (much too longstanding) precedent without laying the groundwork first. Hopefully, state legislatures will continue to create laws which test various aspects of Roe v. Wade, and the Supreme Court will continue circumscribe the scope of that decision. Eventually, when there is a good case and solid majority and Roe v. Wade is more full of holes than Swiss Cheese, they will take the last step and turn things back over to the states.

Dobson didn't write the current decision. He simply said it was a step in the right direction. This kind of "i'm more idealogically pure" attack on one's own side serves no purpose other than self-aggrandizement.

Interesting that the National Right To Life organization has chastised the Colorado organization for getting it wrong.

Another case where pursuit of the perfect overcomes the good.

The ideal would be to reverse Roe v. Wade and make all abortions illegal again. But how does Colorado Right to Life think that can be accomplished? Have they succeeded in outlawing all abortions in Colorado? I don’t think so.

Obviously we need to work toward the goal of no legal abortions. But we need to do it in ways that are politically and realistically possible. Outlawing partial birth abortion is a step along the way. Far from excusing other abortions, it is a small step toward ending them. Otherwise NARAL, NOW, and Planned Parenthood wouldn’t be screaming over the recent decision.

In an ideal world we would have reversed Roe v. Wade the minute it was passed. That didn’t happen, and 40 million babies have died. All we can do is to move forward in the best way possible, and the partial birth abortion ban, like the infant born alive protection bill, is a step in the right direction.

I understand their distress. Every day that abortion remains legal, thousands more babies are murdered. And this goes on year after year. But we can only do what is possible to do, and this kind of unthinking nonsense doesn’t help. Turn the anger on those who deserve it: the abortionists and their enablers.

Rohrbough needs to learn how to write in coherent English, instead of getting his panties wet over an issue he has failed to fully grasp.

From the National Right To Life

In an unusual public dispute, Colorado Right to Life and other anti-abortion groups on Wednesday accused Focus on the Family founder James Dobson of misrepresenting a Supreme Court decision that upheld a ban on a controversial abortion procedure.

But the executive director of National Right to Life quickly went to Dobson's defense, saying "we're in total disagreement" with the criticism from the state group.

It may be that the author of this article went privately to the groups first with his concerns. Whatever the case, the groups that are publicly rebuked in the article as:

“Groups Celebrating this Evil Ruling”

are mostly groups that have gained my trust by consistent long-time advocacy of moral absolutes. Even so, they are fallible and can be deceived, just like any other human.

Meanwhile, it is likely that the abortionist lobby/providers of the multi-millions of dollars spent in South Dakota last year on this issue may also support some divide-and-conquer efforts elsewhere.

It is possible that a spirit of deception or a spirit of divisiveness is at work to hinder God’s work and I pray against that, in Jesus’ Name.

I disagree with their tactics of addressing Dobson rather than just addressing the ruling. Why couldn’t they just make the statement about the ruling itself? Now the news stories are all about the conflict rather than the substance of the abortion issue. They know Dobson’s heart on the issue. They would have been wise to not make this about him.

These nut jobs could have actually saved babies by spending the money they spent on these ads in purchasing an ultrasound machine for a crisis pregnancy center. Instead, they chose to launch a personal attack on a pro-life ally.

They should be ashamed.

No, he had the audacity to celebrate the fact that the Supreme Court upheld the PBA ban. These people are just nuts.
