Here in Tennessee Marsha is somebody for conservatives to listen to. She was one of the most important leaders in the successful effort to stop our forever to be despised and reviled former RINO governor Sundquist from imposing a state income tax. If Marsha’s for Fred, he’s going to be getting a good contribution from me as soon as he announces. Also, Marsha being form Tennessee, it wouldn’t surprise me if she’s been privately informed Fred’s going to run. GO FRED!!!

Marsha’s my rep in Congress. I’ve voted for her twice and have called her office in Washington several times during key legislation battles.

As we say around here, “She’s good people.”

Fred’s running.

US Representative Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee, who's been with Romney since January, announced today that she is jumping ship and will now back Thompson if he runs.

Mitt, buddy... better get used to it.

Some of you may have missed that recent interview where Thompson was checking the web during the interview (during the commercial break and probably a CSS feed on a Blackberry or such) and he mentioned that he could see that even as he was speaking, his opponents were criticizing and distorting his record by selectively quoting his past remarks.

He's a candidate. You don't call the rest of the filed "my opponents" is you aren't in the race.

Fred is looking to do a Howard Dean type of internet outreach and fundraising effort. Alone of the GOP field, he can pull it off.

Somewhere out there, there's an office full of geeks, coding up a sharp fredthompson.com website. At a minimum, it'll be RSS-enabled, have mailing lists, take donations. I would expect they'll organize by states and probably host chatrooms or IMing, perhaps with cellphone support. I wouldn't be surprised if they'll have a few people on staff just to post news releases and defend Thompson's record on the conservative websites like FreeRepublic.

Fred Thompson wants to be the Internet Candidate.

"Fred Thompson is a man of uncommon talent, character, and judgment," Blackburn said in a statement. "He is a proven statesman and public servant."

Marsha Blackburn, R Tenn.

“US Representative Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee”

Backing Fred for her is not exactly a stretch.

I think when Fred gets in, he will take a lot of support from McCain and Romney in the short term, and from Rudy to a lesser extent. I think it will be a race between Rudy and Fred, with the victory dependent on how the McRomney supporters break. I think it will be a tough slog between the two, and hope to see Fred as our candidate.

One early indicator will be the amount of cash that heads Fred’s way in the thirty days after announcing. I know that I and a lot of people I know are holding back to support him. Not sure about the big money donors though, they will be another key.

Between the money and the initial surge, he will generate the positive news that will bring up his name recognition. HE NEEDS TO BE PERFECT IN THE THIRTY DAYS AFTER ANNOUNCING— Vibrant, Engaging, Friendly, Honest, Strong...
