This is known as “bracketing” and is common
1. before launching an attack
2. to intimidate another nation.

China did this to Taiwan before the 96 elections in Taiwan.

We should bracket a few select cities in N Korea.

“The longer we wait, the more interesting the Pacific Rim and Middle East will be. Oh, well. After we allow the Middle East to fire nukes, we’ll have the alternative of crossing the oceans with sails and/or steam power. ;-)”

Yes, oil the USA’s Achilles heel and our enemies know it, they have it and we don’t. I expect to see a nuclear 911, our economy collapse and our oil flow interrupted. Then watch Russia and China makes their moves. They will have air power, we won’t because they will have oil and we won’t. They might even be able to control this country temporarily because of that, but we will annihalate them in the end.

“Never in my entire life overseas have I seen the United States as low as it is now ~ not one foreign diplomat that I know feels that America can face the challenges ahead in dealing with countries like North Korea or Iran let alone China and Russia (coming soon).
Had lunch with a Eastern European diplomat today, we were talking about Iraq and the WOT ~ and he said to me ~ “You guys can’t even defend yourselves from being invaded by Mexico ... what makes you think you can succeed in Afghanistan or Iraq?”

oh well... weakness invites aggression and the world is watching.”

Yeah and what sucks is our ultimate response to coming nuclear terrorism is bad for the entire globle. We still can destroy every major city on earth 10 times over.

“In some respects it is a feeling of profound malaise combined with the feeling that something is dangerously simmering behind the scenes. Im sure that some career FSO’s might understand but other than that the State Dep and the rest of the USA are completely in the dark on this one. Knowing that you sense it as well makes me feel that Im not alone on it - something is going to happen FRiend and the day is getting closer - much closer.”

We are all over the country my friend and when push comes to shove we will all push back together.

Better start pushing back soon. Time is running out, and most people are still asleep at the wheel. In fact, most people are still asleep at the wheel.

You are all seemingly getting comfortable as the super power. Don’t get too comfortable. You are going to be challenged, by more countries, more often. They see Iraq, and that the great super power is having problems. This leads them to believe that you are not as strong as you say. Or as they think.

More and more countries, will be pushing your buttons more, and more often. They sense weakness. And now they will take advantage of it. We are seeing this with NK and Iran. And I am also seeing that we are doing nothing about them. That will encourage more. You need to act soon.

Right you are. They’re only tweaking us with this one. So Kimmy’s boys can hit the water with SCUDs, so what? Not impressed. It’s the stuff we don’t see that worries me.

That looks like an anti-ship cruise missile. Nothing that’s a threat to Japan.

I hope that thing is as big and easy to hit as our old SM-62 Snark missile.

Yeah, somehow I have trouble believing that the NoKers would launch missiles at Japan just because that's what it's time to do.

It might have been linked to this...

Japan accused of passing "imperialist law" (26 May, 2007, Xinhua)

Note: The above is from Communist China's state-run news agency.

Basically, the LDP, Japan's ruling party, has been pushing for a lot of Constitutional revisions, one of which would be changing Article 9, the article which outlaws war, prohibits them from having an actual military (their rather formidible military is currently called the "Self Defense Force"), and bars them from intervening abroad. They recently passed a law which would allow Constitutional amendment by popular referendum, and the NKs are accusing them of using that to ram through a repeal of Article 9.

NORTH KOREA HAS FIRED SEVERAL SHORT-RANGE MISSILES INTO SEA OF JAPAN

More like:

NORTH KOREA HAS FIRED SEVERAL LONG-RANGE MISSILES THAT DIDN'T GO VERY FAR INTO THE SEA OF JAPAN

Reuters can barely git it right.

Correct assessment.

Not particularly a military threat, but a geopolitical threat as well as a proverbial DPRK middle finger extended toward all members of the so-called "Six Party Talks".

Ron Paul supporters should be happy. They want us to do nothing but stay home and bury our heads in the sand.

Little Kim has confused Memorial Day with the Fourth of July, but to him I say “thanks for the holiday salute, you ronery little bugger, you.”

No one has the resolve to respond.

No one has the resolve to preempt.
