91-Year-Old's Beating

Army Veteran's Beating Caught On Tape

POSTED: 8:12 am PDT May 24, 2007

DETROIT -- A 22-year-old man was ordered Wednesday to stand trial on charges that he beat and carjacked a 91-year-old Army veteran.

Deonte E. Bradley was arrested May 10, six days after the attack on Leonard Sims. A convenience store surveillance videotape showing Sims being punched in the head was broadcast on news programs and Web sites. He was struck 21 times.

Bradley appeared in court Wednesday for his preliminary examination. Bradley's attorney asked the judge to provide protection for Bradley, who said he fears for his safety inside the Wayne County Jail. Eric Goze wants his client isolated because he has allegedly been threatened while in custody.

Sims described the attack frame by frame in a Wayne County courtroom.

"He asked for a light for a cigarette, pushed me in the face, then punched so fast, so close, he hit me about 20 times," Sims said. He testified that the punches damaged his hearing.

Police said Bradley confessed to the assault and carjacking.

In court, police Officer Kevin White read Bradley's confession: "I hit him a few times, got the keys and drove off in the car. It wasn't intentionally. It was stupid."

Sims' wife was asked about Bradley's request for protection.

"No, no, no. Let the prisoners have him. Let him see what it's like to be hit 21 times, and his friends stood by and watched and did nothing," Nora Sims said.

District Judge Mark A. Randon ruled there was sufficient evidence to bind Bradley over for trial. Randon raised Bradley's bond from $75,000 to $1 million, meaning he would have to pay 10 percent of that amount to be released.

If he’s in the Detroit City Jail or the Wayne County Jail, the little ba$tard should have no reason to be afraid. He should feel right at home with people of the same mentality.

The victim was black as was the perp.

The white liberals with their light judicial sentences for criminals and anti-gun mania have made life miserable for poor elderly blacks in our inner cities.

They belong in jail next to this perp.

Oh, he’ll be getting some “breaks” alright. A dislocated face, for starters. He’ll be ground chuck after the inmates are done, and they don’t offer appeals.

And in the video, Mr Sims stood his ground.

The punk seemed to be a foot taller and was landing right jabs over and over. Mr Sims may have held on for dear life, but he held on.

I can imagine what was going through his head were words simular to, "You phuquin' punk ... I ain't goin' down!"

And he didn't.

Damn, Sims ... get to a sperm bank ... America needs your kind.

again.

Some posters seem to think that it’s ok for inmates to assault other inmates. It’s not. Those who think that creeps like this guy should be beaten to a pulp, including me, should work to get that kind of punishment built into the law. It should not be carried out by inmates, but by the state.

They should sentence him to an old soldiers home for life, which would be a short sentence.

Sorry ... that is the kind of bleeding heart mentality that allowed this turd to believe he could do this in the first place.

Inside ... the law is not neccesarily suspended, but reformed to fit the culture.

And there's no changing natural law.

Animals inside are/were animals outside ... you ain't gonna' change that.

He hit him 21 times unintentionally. Why does Claudine Longet come to mind?

What about the bystanders that saw this 91 yr old in trouble and just ignored it. It appears to be the Va Tech, hide under your desk, mentality.

I think you’d be hard pressed to find anyone outside of this scumbag’s lawyer who would care if a couple of prisoners got a hold of this jerk and just beat the living sh*t out of him. I, for one, think those who do end up beating his ass should get their time reduced and a nice cash bonus to boot.

The problem is that such extra-judicial punishment leads to a loss of confidence in the legal system, for two reasons.

One, the one that LiMD cited, is that the punishment isn't built into the law, and never will be, though it should.

Two, LEOs, prosecutors and judges become accessories after the fact, and this makes them no better than the people they're imprisoning.

This is one case the punishment should match the crime - and I for one would gladly take up a stick and beat the heck out of that monster.

Its sad we have to rely on inmates to properly punish other inmates, but that is the state of things today...

If it was up to me, I’d lock each one in his own little 8x10 room for 23 hours a day. No entertainment, no pictures, no books, no magazines, no TV, no pin-ups, no exercise machines. Feed ‘em a high-carbohydrate diet (equivalent to “bread and water”). There would be a little brass plaque that says what they were convicted for and how long they are going to be there.

I’d also leave a little fixture in the ceiling to which sheets, ropes, etc. could be tied, in case the inmate wants an “early release.”

Both of you have said the prison population should do something.

Both of you would have it lawful to do so.

Both of you cite a reality that doesn't exist in prison.

Any effort to 'reform' a system that has been part of humanity since forever is futile.

Bradley is screwed and I don't give a $h!t.
