BOSTON: Legislation to add "weight and height" to anti-discrimination law in Massachusetts has been proposed to give special protection to short and fat people.
The bill, which would make Massachusetts the second state in the United States to offer such protections, applies mainly to the workplace but also covers landlords and real estate interactions.
Rep. Byron Rushing, a Boston Democrat who is sponsoring the bill, said it is a question of civil rights.
"This is one of the last physical aspects of people that you can acceptably laugh about," said Rushing, who is black, slim and of average height. "You can be a shock jock on the radio and talk about fat people for a solid week and no one would ever think of having you lose your job. It's still acceptable."

I weigh 380 lbs, and I think this is a stupid idea. As a matter of fact, most anti-discrimination laws are useless and need repeal.
I demand they add tall, slightly stooped, middleaged white men with male pattern baldness and bad teeth to the bill. Dammit we need protection too!

Still need to protect the political beliefs of individuals. Religious and sexual beliefs are protected but it is A-OK to vandalize the home of a Republican with swastikas and to threaten assault.
Doesn’t carry the penalties of a “hate crime” even though clearly there is hate in the Rat’s heart.

I guess there's a two for one special for this law if you're both short and fat?!
All hate crime laws need to be struck down as unconstitutional. They provide unequal protection under the law and create certain protected classes of individual.
If a business can deny you service or employment because you vote Republican (and there are articles about both on FR), then the law is still okay with discrimination.
