N.J. governor gave ex (Girlfriend) $6 million

New Jersey's multimillionaire governor gave his ex-girlfriend, a powerful union leader, more than $6 million when they broke up in 2004, The New York Times reported Wednesday.

Gov. Jon S. Corzine and Carla Katz, president of Communications Workers of America Local 1034, have repeatedly refused to discuss the financial arrangement between them. The newspaper cited unidentified lawyers familiar with the deal and union officials who conferred with Katz during recent contract negotiations in its report.

The Times said the sources wanted anonymity because they feared political retribution.

It also said its investigation found no clear explanation as to why Corzine paid the money.

The agreement reportedly included a trust for Katz's two children, now 12 and 15, to attend college, a sport utility vehicle that cost about $30,000 and a cash payment used by Katz to buy a $1.1 million condominium in the same building where Corzine lives.

Mortgage records revealed in 2005 that Corzine gave Katz a $470,000 loan to buy a different home. The loan was forgiven around the time Corzine announced his gubernatorial bid in late 2005.

[The] investigation found no clear explanation as to why Corzine paid the money [to his union boss squeeze].

Maybe some of you bad old Freepers can think of a reason or two.

I hate rich people. There should be more laws controlling who they use their money.

I hope that you are being sarcastic. Class envy in not very becoming...

In REAL LIFE, it is rich folks who provide the investment capital to drive the economy. Don't let the media focus on Paris Hilton or Jon Corzine mislead you.

Well I'm sure it's of no interest....or they would have mentioned it.

And that this "girlfriend" is "a powerful union leader"....had no implications whatsoever.

He is just a kind-hearted pol..working for the little guy.

Move along sheep....nothing to see here.

Kind of amazing that when a pubbie gets caught doing something like this, the Media let’s their imaginations run wild, speculating on possible reasons. When it’s a donkey, they have to be dragged kicking & screaming to the obvious conclusion (and they never seem to get there).

“Hittable, but hardly worth $6M.”

You don’t pay them to “hit” them; you pay them to leave afterwards.

Well, Hell, I’ve been a horny SOB for 65 years, but I never let my balls override my brain, although often sorely tempted. Women are just slap damned wonderful, but nothing worth losing your mind over. In the morning after you have always got to drag your butt out, and shovel out the crap! Hell, I never had to spend 6 million bucks to get some!

Whatever you want to call her, she’s not the highest paid. Matter of fact she settled for slightly more than peanuts. I AM Surprised the union leadership hasn’t tossed her out on her ass yet. They may have gotten a short term gain, or not, but long term this is going to hurt the unions. Not that they haven’t earned the hurt that will come.
